I saw the starting sequence of this in that square thread and I want to know how you guys could bear to carry on
YOU'RE BLOCKING MY VIEW!!
...all the world needs is ME...
Initially the game is a bit "awkward" I guess with that, but the game is so much more than Neku's early angst/introverted self. (and to be honest, that didn't even really bother me) However, I think even more than that is seeing how Neku develops throughout the game from what you see in the intro. I suppose if that's already not your thing the game may not be for you but I'd certainly say there is a lot more to be said for it than the first five to ten minutes or so. Storywise, my main interest has more to do with the purpose of the Reapers' Game and why exactly those who were involved were being forced to play it. Like Marcus said in another thread about buying the game or something because it looked cool a year ago when we didn't know anything about it, that is what drew my main interest. All you kept hearing about was this seven day stipulation and the consequence of being erased. However, I wasn't so put off by the game's intro and Neku's introverted-ness to simply stop right there. (EDIT: To be clear, I'm not suggesting that is where Marcus stopped, I simply don't know if he continued on) I really don't want to spoil anything for those who haven't played through it, but the game throws in a lot of interesting things storywise and the battle system is a lot of fun once you get the hang of knowing when and where to focus during those battles to make the most of your experience. There is definitely a learning curve there, but it wasn't long before my grades in battles changed from E Rank to "Star" Rank yielding ever more kick ass rewards depending on other factors the player has control over throughout the game.
Besides, the primary minigame in the game is a pretty addictive time waster that ties directly into elements from the main game I tend to spend a lot of time on this when I'm not engaged in areas of the game contributing to its progressing replay value. It's a meaty little bonus, kind of like how Sudoku was in the Brain Age games were if I had to make a comparison.
But hey, there are people out there who refuse to play anymore of this game, if at all, simply because of Nomura's involvement, so whatever. :P Obviously, no one game is for everyone.
