I kinda liked diablo 2 but it was essentially a VERY small game world and a very short game that was artificially extended by not having enough experience or enemies in the game, causing you to reply baal/cows hundreds, or more likely thousands, of times with a single character. That's just boring grind imo.

Iirc the team that made diablo 2 left blizzard and formed flagship studios, and then went on to make hellgate london (which was 'spiritual' diablo 3). And hellgate london is a fucking terrible game.

Mythos.

Go play it.

It's way better than HGL, made by the same team to test their engine.

Mythos is like Diablo 2 with a bigger world, more shit to do, cooler classes (GNOLL WITH CIGAR + GUNS = EPIC) and shit.

It gets me every time how an engine test is better than their actual first game made on the engine.

Also only some of the Diablo team left.

Diablo 2 was a blast the first time through. Today though, it's pretty dull unless you play it with a friend or two over TCP/IP or something.

Given how Diablo 2 evolved from the first game, which was just "here is a dungeon, now reach time bottom," I think Diablo 3, if it really is on the way, will be pretty open-ended. Ideally, I'd like Diablo 3 to retain the same gameplay and camera view, but full 3D graphics and, like I said, an open-ended world (ie. Elder Scrolls games) would be damn fantastic.

Socketing should (read: will, if the game really is in the works) return, but seriously.. It should play a bigger role. I think EVERY item should be socketable, and how your gear develops should depend on what kind of socket items you find or make rather than just playing through the cow level a hundred times to get some ungodly powerful weapon.

Heh heh, I'm gonna socket my potions... Sorry I know what you meant but still, thats the first thing that popped in my mind. Also, this IS blizzard, I'd buy the damn game if it had the second ones graphics.

Yeah, me too. I played through Diablo 2 a few months back and, while the graphics were horribly dated, they were by no means ugly.

This was pretty much established that they were thinking of a sequel to Diablo 2 when they revealed they couldn't decide whether their next project was to make Diablo 3 or Starcraft 2.

Chances are it's most likely going to be announced at Blizz's World Wide Invintational in Paris.

It's on June 28th -  29th, which will mark the 8 year anniversary of Diablo 2

Maybe the studio has enough manpower to work on two games?  They are making a truly absurd amount of money from WoW (10 million subscribers at $15 per month generates revenues a little bit like putting out a game as successful as Bioshock or something every month!) and I'm sure the studio could afford to do just about anything at this point.

They don't make 10,000,000 x 15 tho, btw, because a lot of people take package deals, and some foreign countries (China etc) pay per hour, instead of month.

still pretty HIGH UP THERE though, but they probably spent tons of that money on their new FUCKING MANSION with EPIC BENEFITS such as SAND VOLLEYBALL COURT.

I *still* don't get that.

Blizzard Guy #1: Yo, we have so much money what should we do?
Blizzard Guy #2: Well we have a ton of servers that are starting to su-
Blizzard Guy #3: Sand Volleyball Court.
Blizzard Guy #1: BRILLIANT!!!

Oh yeah of course.  But still I bet there are at least 3 or 4 million US accounts paying $15 per month and that's loads of cash dude (like you said).  Although they are always iterating and stuff so I imagine it's an expensive game to run too.

I have heard that Rockstar is sort of the same way.  It's pretty wild because I envision game development offices as just normal everyday office buildings but every once in awhile you'll read about something weird like Garriott's mansion where they used to make Ultima games and the Rockstar and Blizzard offices.

Fun as hell on LAN though. I never enjoyed it til I played it LAN with a friend or a group of friends.

I'm keen for Diablo III just for this reason.

I agree. the multiplayer is what draws me to Diablo. then I can put all my skill points into Jump Attack for barbarian, and leap across the level to save the group, ahahaa, I miss doing that.
