The Knife is the only indie thing worth listening to ever
The Knife is very good, very visual music. Sweden has quite a few good indie gigs, many of them centered around The Knife and their label, Rabid Records (we could easily have a topic on just that). After hearing their stuff, Robyn ditched Jive and started her own Konichiwa Records and it resulted in what is probably her best album to date. I believe the Knife produced at least part of the album (titled 'Robyn') as well. On Rabid, Honey is Cool is also worth listening to (features vocals by the female half of the Knife), and maybe some Jenny Wilson as well.
I'm not sure what "hip musicblog speak" is, but...
'Sensitive' means that a good many indie songs have lyrics that emphasise how emotionally vulnerable and stuff they are, almost to the point of parody ("I always knew you'd be the one to show me a grove to lie in and cry into the treetops" - lyric from a random Stars song that manages to be both twee, obtuse, and whiny all at once).
'Quirky' means that there's a trend for bands to be as self-conciously WACKY and ZANY as possible, usually by writing songs about shit like stamp-collecting and punctuation, having high-pitched, 'geeky' or neurotic vocals, and generally sounding like a third rate Talking Heads ripoff. Los Campesinos are a good example of 'quirky' music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nj6SO_yKMe8 . And they suck balls. A lot of the time, quirky is the same as twee, which overlaps a lot with sensitive, so it's not as contradictory as it sounds.
'Chamber-Pop' is basically pop music with orchestral-type instruments, like violins and glockenspiels and shit. The Arcade Fire are chamber-pop.
Also, relax already. Just because someone uses fucking apostrophes or words like 'whilst' doesn't mean they're a pretentious dick. And I can't speak for anyone else here, but I'm pretty sure the reason people namecheck bands and stuff is because they LIKE those bands and want other people to check them out, not because they want to impress anybody.
Oh my. I'm sorry, I suppose I was a bit rude, but I didn't expect such a response... in any case, thank you for explaining, it does make sense now.
You must realise how obtrusive and unwieldy that onoriginal statement was, however. Although chamber-pop is apparently an actual term, it's not exactly a household word. Hence 'music blog' - often written by people who care overly much about /their/ opinions of music. I understand the sensitivity part as well, though it personally only bothers me if it comes across as insincere. What still bothers me is how you refer to so many things as being 'quirky', 'zany' and 'wacky'. It seems like a rationalisation of something in music you simply do not like, mashing it into the mold of an objective, judgeable trait. Not only does this come across as obtrusive and confusing to a reader, but also very pretentious and possibly as grating as the music you're trying to describe (though I do like the recent Los Campesinos album!).
