I don't know if I should have made a new topic but it might be good to start fresh..

Know your Hiphop: The South.

Lately there is this preconception (thanks to Nelly and Lil Jon) that music from the south is essentially dumbed down dancefloor music, this is snap music or crunk music and we definately aren't talking about that!
I wouldn't say these preconceptions are true at all, in fact it's becoming one of my favourite sub-genres of hiphop mainly for it's unique style, use of language and beats.
And Yes I'm well aware some of the more gangsta stuff after outkast isn't for everyone...

Outkast

Outkast have been around forever and I'd say they are one of the best rap groups of all time. Their stuff is a combination of Funk, Soul, Pop, Spoken word and obviously hiphop.
Their stuff is obviously pretty experimental, lyricially it's really cool.

Here is a classic track from them:

This is an example of some Outkast lyrics from their song the art of storytellin part 2, they are worth the read

Lyricially these guys are amazing, albums to recommend are everything they did before 2000.

Here is one of their newest songs, I love it, mainly for chorus and of course UGK. Look for cameos from 3-6 Mafia, Pimp Don Magic Juan and Fontzwoth Bentley and ...haha t-pain.
I CHOOSE YOU

Also look out for Big Boi's solo album which is coming out soon with a single featuring Raekwon from  Gw favourite: Wu Tang.

UGK: Underground Kingz

Speaking of those guys in that outkast video...

These guys are one of my favourites at the moment, I pretty much rank them as highly as I do Ghostface. It's not the most intelligent stuff but these guys are prettty much the originators of the whole south style in my opinion words like Trill I always associate with them, Pimp C also has the best accent ever and together they were one of the best duo's ever until Pimp C passed away this year ;(, he also overdosed on codeine. If you don't like Gangsta stuff you probally wont like these guys but I think they're pretty rad.

They use some cool beats and the chorus kinda makes this song for me (I have to fight off singing it all the time hahaha, 3 in the mornin, why your ass yawnin?).

Here's a video so you can see Pimp C in action:

Check him out burning that 100 dollar note and his jacket which says "drank university" haha.

Haha man listen to young jeezy, JYEEAEEAAAAH DAYUUM >he always says that.

Goodie Mob- Cee-lo

Well basicially everyone knows who Cee-lo is now thanks to Gnarls Barkley but back in the day he helped put Atlanta on the map at about the same time Outkast took off (last year these guys officially announced a renuion.
Their lyricial themes are similar to Outkast and alot of their subject matter is pretty deep.

Listen to this song about WOAH WOMEN RESPECTING THEIR BODIES HOHOHO

and then theres this also:

Everyone on this track has awesome flow.

Chopped and Screwed: Definately not for everyone.

This was a style pioneered in the 1990's by the late Dj Screw, it consisted of slowing down music or chopping up beats to give the song a similar effect to how you feel after the consumption of "syrup" (Prescription cough syrup codeine and sprite) Also it's be noted that Dj Screw died of a overdose on this stuff so don't do it!
It started off with just mixtapes of which Dj Screw distrubuted hundreds of remixes and it eventually became it's own subgenre. Often songs contain samples from over artists which are used as the "hook".
This stuff is pretty hard to listen to in general, apparently it's only really good if you are fucked up.

Here's an example of a chopped and screwed remix:

Original: (I like the beat to this song)

Chopped and Screwed: (I told you it was pretty inaccessable)

hahaha 3-6 Mafia

What heaps of people seem to forget about the 3-6 is that when they started off they were doing cheesy horrorcore stuff similar to Insane Clown Posse hahahahahha, also they used to have beef with Bone Thugs because they both rapped about the occult so much.

They are ok though nothing too special, if I knew them personally however I would constantly remind them of their past hahaha.

This is the worst song ever:

I know ludacris is a faggot now but

He used to really good, I mean something changed, he's lost his charisma or sense of fun or something and his latest album was TERRIBLE but songs like this were pretty cool:

What happened to this craziness Luda?

Wait I forgot Dj Assault and 2 Live Crew

This is just dumb party music about bitches, like it demoralizes hoes the worst I have ever heard haha.

Quote
If you a light skinned bitch that think you the shit I could buy you hoe cause bitch I'm rich

I like this song for comedy reasons mainly.

Or check out 2 live crew, they're basicially the same but obviously early 90's style.

Outkast are incredible. It annoys me that the average (top 40) hip hop fan would know them as the 'Ms Jackson and Hey Ya guys' because they're so much more than that and are definitely one of the best duos in hip hop.

ATLiens and Aquemini are two of my favourite albums, and Andre's second verse on Aquemini (the track) is one of my all time favourites:

The flow and the vibe of the beat is just awesome. The new Big Boi single with Raekwon and 3000 is pretty great in my eyes as well, it definitely feels like old school Outkast.

I'm a big UGK fan as well. A lot of the ignorant Southern rap is a guilty pleasure of mine, guys like Luda (you're right - Back for the First Time and Word of Mouf had so much personality)/Three-Six/Field Mob/T.I/Chamillionaire/Slim Thug I bump when I'm in the mood for some good beats.

Cunninlynguists are also a sweet Southern group, it's like Southern fried underground hip hop and I think all their albums have been pretty damn good.

Posting here mainly so we get more replies than the Deathcab topic.

I admire Cee-Lo for making that song and all, but I don't think it worked out for him... the second video is much better in my opinion, though I have to say I prefer his singing to his  rapping.

I said this earlier, but I really think Cee-Lo's singing is so much better than his rapping, to the degree that honestly I think it could represent a pretty cool trend of people who can actually SING going back into music.

*cue someone saying AH YES I HATE PRODUCTION*
