Never bothered with three, good thing, apparently.
Well once you get past the terrible opening and theme song it's not that bad. I mean the story seems pretty forgettable so far (actually this is probably true of all Grandias, they seem to be more about the journey than the story itself) but the battle system is incredibly awesome and strategic (and you will have to actually use strategy because the bosses and even some minor enemies can be brutal if you don't). Overall it feels like a natural evolution of the series. I'll say that the worst part of it is that the characters are straight up cookie cutter JRPG templates. The most interesting character (Miranda, the hero's mother who actually looks younger than him) leaves the party early in the the game.

Does it play in widescreen?  I have been on the fence for so long and if it plays in widescreen then I might possibly be pushed.

I don't think it does, not sure though.

God it's been awhile since I've played any video games...but here are some:

Wild Arms 4

I orginally liked what they did back in the 3rd game with the anime intro, and when I played this a few years back I thought they did pretty good with this game. Actually for some reason I liked the 4th game more then the first one. Seriously! ^^

Amazingly I have Wild Arms 5, and yet...have never played it ever since we bought it.  :hmm:

Star Ocean: Till The End Of Time

Oh yeah being a ultimate SO fanboy, and waiting many years for this game...when I popped this into the machine and loaded this up I was like...wow...still do even years later.

Tales Of Legendia

I loved Symphonia...and when Legendia was released, I looked at the graphics and thought...what a horrible job Namco. I was wrong, this not only was my favorite Tales of game. But it's one of my top 10 for amazing character development and best game ever. Ah the memories of the long ass boss fights at the end of the game.

Final Fantasy VIII

Forget FF7! This is DA real game. FF8 gets no respect nowadays...

- - -

Other then that it's been a looooooooooonnnnnnnnnggggggg time since I've played any video games, I have no Wii, XBox 360, PS3 or anything. So I doubt I'll ever see a commerical game anymore...

These memories have been replaced by a even bigger one:

If you hadn't said it in such a ridiculous way (and font) I would agree with you wholeheartedly.

This doesn't really count, but I was just thinking about the Pokemon intro with Gengar and Nidorino fighting, and even though that wasn't very cool, when they did the exact opening in the cartoon I remember it blowing my mind as a kid.  I was really thinking "THIS CARTOON REALLY IS LIKE THE VIDEO GAME"

FFVII:

Right into the action, then explains the story later. Pretty cool. Also, not a lot of info was thrown at you. Just enough to make you want to find it out later... after you blow the motha fuckin' reactor up first!

The Arcanum opening is probably one of my favorite ever. I saw it and I immediately knew this was something I just had to start up. Of course it isn't the actual story's opening scene but it's short and awesome.

Fallout. Fallout 2 too. "War, war never changes"
"I'm just a nationalistic Swedish-speaking Finn"
"Aivan, mutta suomalaiset juovat toki olutta."
I never forget an Insult nor do I forget a compliment.

I found that pretty cool too. There's another cool scene in the show where a metapod battle takes forever since all they can do is use "harden".

Back on topic, I should also mention another few intros I really liked:

Lost Odyssey
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ozBWH9lSDPk&feature=related
Lost Odyssey's intro wasn't really all that special, but I really liked how it transitioned into an in-game battle so smoothly.

LoZ Ocarina of Time / Majora's Mask
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=WbupiD5axgw
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=EtG7F9kIkAs
How could I forget about these two games... They have great intros. I really can't decide which is my favourite...

Thank you to people who finally mentioned any of the following (here are my faves off hand):

1. FFVIII
-the music is so haunting, i love it all, i remember when i was a kid when it first came out and i would just watch the intro over and over!

2. Chrono Cross
-again, the music is helpful. theres so much to take in at once in that, i never finished the game, but jsut from that opening scene, i'm STILL wondering what happens in the game!

3. Lunar: SSSC
-hmmm i think they ll have a similar theme here....

4. Evil Zone
-the intro is actually way better than the game ahhaha a very cliche, epic, anime intro that definitely hooked me!

sometimes, you need to quote yourself to feel important.

My personal favorite is Metal Gear Solid 2's intro. And with intro, I basically mean the entire Tanker Chapter, especially at the end.

There are some funny gameplay parts in there, and there's also the fact that you get all sorts of weird things thrown at you that aren't explained until near the end.
