basically my local area has this free festival every year, and they have a lot of good acts but a lot of shit acts too, mainly those who are about to be big.

this year the line up is looking pretty good so far, i just need help deciding who i should see!

http://middlesbroughmusiclive.co.uk/

line-up: ash, one night only, black kids, infadels, late of the pier, delays, sons and daughters, dan le sac vs scroobius pip, the wildcats allstar jam, esser, natty, future of the left, the hot melts, parka, the anomalies, you me at six, cartel, the bookhouse boys, friendly fires, slaves to gravity, noah and the whale, rolo tomassi, pnau, hijack oscar, florence and the machine, glamour of the kill, sam isaac, outry collective, ipso facto, the joy formidable, beyond this oath, billy the kid.

there's a big list for you. i'm definitely going to see future of the left, rolo tomassi and noah and the whale. who else should i see?

the bookhouse boys seems kind of interesting though I only listened to one of their songs!
<Drule> I can play the didgeridoo actually
<Drule> some guy on the street taught me
<Drule> come to think of it
<Drule> it was pretty gross how I played on his didgeridoo

so wrong...

the new Future of the Left was one of the best albums of 2007.

Cartel is what happens when instead of finding a magic hat, the children sprayed a mop with enough hair straightener to puncture the ozone, globbed on the Pomade, and stuck it on Frosty's head so when he came to life he became an unbearable faggot. if you bring a lighter the sheer amount of hairspray coming from the grassfuckers in the audience will cause the air above to catch aflame and create a reasonable facsimile of the Aurora Borealis before descending like the hand of God and obliterating them all.

so it's a wash.

Was that Curses? I don't remember loving it, but I didn't listen very closely. edit: It's better than I remember, I think I just got tired of it listening to the whole CD at once.

I've listened to Black Kids fairly recently. Dance-rock I believe, and I know Rolling Stone gave them a very good review. I wasn't overly thrilled, but you might enjoy it.

I'm going to post here because I know pretty much all of these bands.

line-up: ash, one night only, black kids, infadels, late of the pier, delays, sons and daughters, dan le sac vs scroobius pip, the wildcats allstar jam, esser, natty, future of the left, the hot melts, parka, the anomalies, you me at six, cartel, the bookhouse boys, friendly fires, slaves to gravity, noah and the whale, rolo tomassi, pnau, hijack oscar, florence and the machine, glamour of the kill, sam isaac, outry collective, ipso facto, the joy formidable, beyond this oath, billy the kid.

there's a big list for you. i'm definitely going to see future of the left, rolo tomassi and noah and the whale. who else should i see?

I put good bands in bold and underlined ones that are as good as cancer. Italics are ones who are ok and should see if there's nothing better to do. I didn't do anything to the ones you're definitely seeing and the other normal ones are either average or I don't know them or smth

Black Kids will be full of idiot kids/scenesters/mums who won't dance, it's the problem with them being loved by so many people. LotP may not be your thing but their live show is amazing if you just dance and get into it, they're also really fucking funny in talking to the crowd. Pnau are really great dance music but are sometimes a bit too happyhappy. Esser essentially write pop songs in structure but they're played so weird you'd never hear them on the radio or anything.  Florence is a folk singer but I just find her pretty boring but she's not bad looking which could sway you I suppose

As I said none of those will probably be your thing but if it's free there's no harm in going along

I saw Friendly Fires once supporting !!!. They were alright, nothing spectacular but maybe worth checking out. I haven't actually heard any of their recorded output so I don't know really. Their singer was totally Mick Jagger-lite.
