i just saw it and idk it was better than i expected in some ways
like i thought his character would be LOVABLE ASSHOLE LOL but he was really just kind of a regular old asshole, which i thought was pretty good. DRANK, SWORE, KILLED PEOPLE. but i thought the INNER TURMOIL//PAIN shit was pretty poorly realized, and when they started explaining his origins i thought it got convoluted and kind of dumb. like... i really didn't understand a lot of what they explained.
first of all, god(s) just MAKING SUPERHEROES IN PAIRS is honestly kind of a dumb premise! especially if the only point is so they find each other and grow old as mortals. did anyone really think this was good??? also if they get near each other then grow old and die, why is it they were together in 4 bc for him to save her from whoever, and then together again in 1850 for him to save her again, and then AGAIN in 1920? shouldn't they have died sometime around the FIRST CENTURY? why are the still immortal if they were together in 4 bc, 1850, and 1920? i guess you could explain it by them intentionally parting ways so they wouldn't die but that's the point; it's poorly explained. they just say shit and don't go into any further detail when they should, and it comes off pretty nonsensically.
also, for being lovers throughout the past 2,000 years, why does she treat him like shit and pretend she doesn't know him? i sort of thought this was kind of lacking in realism as considering their past, i don't think think that's how she would've handled the situation (heh if my husband finds out about me YOUR DEAD BUCKO).
and at the end why is the moon red? what did he do to it?
anyway, it was okay i guess. he cut that guy's hand off and then killed those other dudes and i got a kick out of that, because i definitely expected the character to be more of a family friendly jackass. i also dug that there wasn't really any villain, just SELF-DISCOVERY, which is a pretty cool idea for a superhero movie i think. plus i'm a fan of bittersweet endings so him just having to GO AWAY and forget about her was nicer than some random happyending shit, although i guess it was still a pretty happy ending. still though, it's not really the premise i had a problem with so much as the execution and the actual plotting. it was OKAY but mostly i thought it was pretty mediocre and it wasn't especially funny at all for the most part, and the latter half of the movie got pretty schmaltzy and convoluted. it could've been a way better movie had it been handled differently!
