Dude, the larger cities in Quebec are pretty much Montreal and Quebec City. In Quebec City you will not get served in english trust me on that one. A lot of people will be able to speak english but they might be rude to you if you can't speak french at all (the city is EXTREMELY nationalist). In Montreal you won't have any problems whatsoever though. Unless you go into a few places that are mostly residential anyways so...

If you stick to the West Island and the more touristic area there's no trouble.

Are you drunk, FlowerPower? That billion-dollar monstrosity on the side of the ROM looks like shit and serves absolutely no purpose (since it is not structurally sound enough to support more than a couple people walking in it) and was a complete failure from an architectural and financial standpoint. It also destroyed the ye olden vibe of the ROM (which is the vibe

to each his own, imo the new construction looks amazing. its something unexpected. but i still have to go visit the new site heres to hoping that it'll be a great experience

Jeez... am I the only guy that thinks the West-Island is rather french? In general it is more english but if you go to Ile-Bizard and a lot of places in Pierrefond and even more towards the west it's so very very french.

Catslacks, I'm actually really surprised you were served in english everywhere in Quebec City. I've seen a lot of places where they would actually throw you out if you don't speak french (which I think is completely ridiculous).

Well by everywhere I mean everywhere you would be likely to find yourself. Granted most of the locations we went to were touristic because we didn't really travel to Quebec City to buy bubble gum. The only trouble we did have was at a restaurant where our waiter was pretty rude and ended the meal with "You know, here in Quebec we leave tips." in a condescending tone before we could even get out of our seats. Needless to say we didn't leave a tip. Oh, and nobody would break a twenty for us. Anywhere. Ever.

I noticed that many Canadians are very proud of their Canadianness.  I was working, and a man in dreadlocks came up to me and said this:

"Hi.  I'm looking for a laptop.  I'm from Canada.  I want something that's not real expensive, because all I'll be doing is watching Youtube videos and checking e-mail.  And don't mess with me, eh, because I'm from Canada."

Who wouldn't be proud to be Canadian? I mean the government takes away 15% from everything you buy,you get free "health-care" which is really a lie cause they only "cover" useless stuff that your likely never to get,but when it comes to stuff that matters you have to pay a huge amount of money cause of the fucking tax

Here is an example:

Me:"Oh no I got cancer in my anus! No problem Ill just bust out my health card and get an operation!"
Goverment:"We are sorry we dont cover that, but you can give us a sample of your pee tougth so we give you some bullshit test that you can probably do yourself..."
Me:"Fuck..."

Oh and lets not forget 40% of the country is useless/unhabitable and we got some asshole province that wants to become its own country just cause they want to have french in their game manuals, delaying the realease of good games even more!

Oh oh! Almost forgot! In Canada if you touch a girl below the age of 18 your a pedophile! and if she is above 18 your a rapist!

Fucking eh!

Uwe Boll frequents one of the Starbucks in Vancouver pretty much every day. If you stay there for a whole day you're bound to meet him.

Ok, so we've decided to go to Montreal. We all have birth certificates and drivers license if not a passport. Now my question is, will they let us get a hotel room with just a US id and some cash?

EDIT: Also, if there is anywhere particularly awesome in Montreal let me know, and also what kind of Canadian cigarettes are good?

You made the wrong choice my friend. Oh and yeah you can stay in a hotel with cash and us id...but mostly because of the cash.
Only good thing I know bout Montreal is that its so easy to purchase alcoholic beverages over there not so easy here in Toronto...

The rumors are true and sorta false outside the downtown area, its pretty filthy, like from a far distance you can see so much mist... but outside its pretty clean... for the most part anyway.
It's pretty clean compared to other cities!

I know this is kind of necroposting, but I'm leaving in about twenty minutes. We had to move it back a day so my friend didn't get fired. I'll post some pictures when I get back!

I'm taking a trip up to Canada this summer and I'm wondering where is a good place to visit. I live in PA so I think we are planning on going to Quebec because it's close and from what I understand it is one of the providences where the drinking age is 18. Also, does anyone know if you need a passport to get across the border? Because I have heard that you do, that you only need a birth certificate and a driver's license, and that you only need a passport to get back into the US.

If you go to Quebec, you are not a man until you have tried every variety of Unibroue beer.

if you're a vegan you support baby killers
