I'm sorry, this is probably going to end up being a bad example of a General topic but I just really REALLLY wanted to make this into a topic because it is SO COOL

For a few days, planes flew overhead this remote location in Brazil near the border of Peru and took photos of these awesome painted people aiming bows and spears at the plane. I guess I am just really weird but

*beats chest* *emergency village call HIIUHUUUU ALALALAYYAIYAIYAIHUUII (translation: EVIL GOD SENDS FAST SHINY BIRD: VILLAGERS, ATTAAACCCKKK!!!!)

HOLY FUCK. The men seem to paint themselves orange and the women are painted black (look closely for TITTIES) and they're all DEFENSE MODE. I just find that so amazing. I just want to wear some sort of combo space suit/arrow-proof vest and VISIT THEM and show them a Television and maybe INTERNET PHOTOS OF THEMSELVES and right before they stone me to death they will all congregate around the technology and say

AGOOOOOOOLAMMANANANAAA HABANNAAAANANANATAYYYY (MAGIC MIRROR!!!)

Anyways, feel free to talk about how you care or don't care about these uncontacted, isolated peoples. Here's a wiki:

You know, when I first saw these photos yesterday, it made me think of a pretty great sci-fi plot.

These guys are living now approximately the same way their ancestors lived ten thousand years ago, almost totally unaware of what the rest of the world has been doing. How funny would it be to find out that the Earth we know is just like one of these tribes, and that without our knowledge there are already other humans out there exploring the galaxy and we are to these others as these un-contacted tribes are to us.

Unless I misread something, we're just photographing them, right? What the fuck difference does it make? Planes seem to freak them out for obvious reasons, but I'd say they see planes beside these anyway. If you want to use your animal comparison, this is more like filming animals in the wild, which is ENTIRELY DIFFERENT than animals in zoos. We're not doing anything bad here, fuck, the whole point of this group is to PROTECT AND PRESERVE them and keep their land from being taken.

yeah the article says that these photos were taken because some people doubt their existence, so its to protect the reserve they live in.

Also I wonder many things, like what sort of language did they develop if any, and whats their story exactly. I mean they could simply be a tribe that never in history had a contact with the outside world, or maybe they're the long descendants of people who were exiled somehow from civilization and stayed separated ever since, forgetting their old ties to the rest of the world... :o

God, yes, this shit is so cool. These photos are great, too. I sort of try to imagine what life must be like for these people, never going outside a few miles' radius of their villages, having no concept whatsoever of the existence of an enormous outside world filled with billions of people (probably not even a number they conceive of!!) and technology. It's funny because as I was reading the magic mirror part of your post, I was thinking how I'd like to go there with some kind of protective wear and just... a CD PLAYER or something to just blare music at them, and maybe an AIBO ROBOT or some shit. Just all this ridiculous stuff we have, and see how they react to it. On one hand STONING might work, but on the other, since we in all likelihood have no way of communicating with these people, maybe they would WORSHIP ME or something.

but really the whole thing is awesome because I just wish I could communicate with them and just see what their perspective on LIFE is without being contaminated by MASS MEDIA and whatever the fuck else we all have to deal with. And also it would be cool to find maybe the ONE SMART ONE who would not be terrified by modern technology and see his reaction to computers and internet and TELEPHONE and shit like that.

I remember my teacher was telling me about some feral child in Europe who had literally been RAISED BY WOLVES or something and they managed to teach him whatever language, and posed some riddle to him that I forget the gist of. It was something like, you're on an island and there are two groups of people, one are cannibals and and the others are friendly and will give you food and crap - the catch is, the cannibals will lie and the friendly people tell the truth (I think). The prepared answer was something like "If I asked you if you were a cannibal, what would you say?" or something convoluted like that (actually I don't think my answer works but it was similar to that). Anyways, the kid is asked the question and supposedly he goes over to a tree and asks, "IS THIS A TREE"

I read up on it later and supposedly those cases were hoaxes but that would be pretty awesome if it were true

OK guys this is it. I have decided I don't want to go to med school anymore.

I just want to lead expeditions into the unknown with a camera and photography crew and LEARN about these people and interact with them in some manner that won't pass on diseases and kill all of them off. I just want to WATCH THEM TRADE BEADS FOR PLANTS and BUILD HOUSES and MAKE ANIMAL SACRIFICES
