dude there were THREE MAIN CHARACTERS, I think she was even on the cover.

It probably is a poor design choice to let the player completely blow off Kid until the final dungeon but still try to force their pseudo-romance down on the player

At least admit it was kind of neat to see how many of the characters were connected/related to one another.

nah. a lot of the connections were fairly arbitrary and then didn't connect to the main plot. do I really care about the whole CHA clan or whatever or NIKKI AND MIKKI ROCK CONCERT?

it was all very uh...throwaway isn't the right word but it's close enough for government work. just these little sidequest story things that honestly I couldn't bring myself to care about because they were too short and not interesting enough!

As a sequel it falls flat, because except for a small small few of references until late in the game..

..it has nothing to do with CT. That's why I regard them as pretty different and don't try to make links between them. There are links, but it's mustly just a few nods, for most.

Oh yeah, CC has a ton, ton of atmosphere too. And a god damn beast of a soundtrack.

It's the only soundtrack I heard irl, from outside sources.

I gotta agree, CC was stand-alone one of the better RPGS, and well CT is pretty much the best RPG, and saving the princess was not annoying at all, it was a great part, but yeah from zeal on the game kept getting better and better
so you've come here for pointless ego boosting and happy sunshine glee? this aint deviantart man.

no way I loved the future stuff. it was so unbelievably dark and unexpected, I almost lolled.............but i was still hungry...

anyways I'm kind of surprised for the love of CC actually. I think most people here are forgetting or didn't play the end of the game. I'll give it two things; the battle system was pretty fucking good (great, actually, probably one of the few where DEFENDING was an option with Barkley Shut Up and Jam being the only other game I think I've done that in) and the graphics were just unfucking believable (when you paused the game and loaded the character window, I swear they did SOMETHING in the menu to make it look like Dreamcast good).

but I mean, ignoring the flaws they chose to drag over, like another silent protagonist, and the incredibly stupidly massive character select (I'M A LUCHADOR what???) that resulted sadly in less character development (raise your hand if you can remember three details about Kid that aren't MAYBE A WILD GIRL), the end of the game was so fucking awful.

ROCK CONCERT FOR DRAGONS

LETS MAKE THE GAME A FUCKING SIDEQUEST FROM CHRONO TRIGGER

FANFICS NOW IRRELEVANT

HERES LAVOS LOL.

man it was a really really fucking awful ending.

It's...it's a Steel post...I agree with...every single word...I agree with...oh, how the gracious swine soar above the vast, frozen plains of the depths of hell...I...I see the light...it's...beautiful...

I am playing CC and I like it because i is succesful in giving some kind of unique atmosphere or something fantasy world feel. The graphics and the plot are my favorite part, of course also the music which complimented it. Never finished it but it's one opf my favorite.

I was too young to have played CT in its golden ages but I tried playing it on an emulator, I can't say I really like it. Maybe it just strike me that I don't fiind it nostalgic, or whatever.

I love Chrono Trigger. There's not a single thing I dislike about it, except maybe Chrono, and even he's OK because he. The time travelling, the music, the graphics, the simple but functional battle system, even the characters which are a little weak sometimes. It represents everything I loved and am nostalgic about from my EARLY GAME DAYS I guess. Along with Lufia 2 and Earthbound, it's one of the three SNES games I play to this day, even on a semi regular basis.

Chrono Cross I'm more lukewarm about. I hated it baselessly for a long time until honestly giving it a chance, and then I found it fairly engrossing. The cast was a little dull and the plot a bit meandering but the music was excellent and the battle system enjoyable. I like it well enough now.

Yeah, the Ice Age was definitely the best part for me. The whole prophet story and just everything going on at that point was just fantastic in my opinion. I love Chrono Trigger... Ha, I was just thinking about replaying it recently. I think what really stands out to me is just how, like someone said earlier, it's just so well POLISHED and it's such a SOLID RPG. It's so damn good.

frog 4 life ^^;;;;;

p.s. i really need to get around to playing chrono cross, i'm not sure why i haven't yet. so the story is good, then?

parents don't love me (litterally they told me)

I loved Chrono Cross, it is my favorite RPG, and pretty much the only RPG I'll ever play without being bored shitless.

I did play it before Trigger though, so I didn't see it as a sequel.

Chrono Trigger is very fun for me too, because I never had to grind, the game was pretty easy.

I'm also one of the people who prefer CC to CT. Both are great games but to be honest, I never really understood the hype about CT, it didn't really do anything special for me.

Pretty much this. Chrono Trigger is a great game but I just like Chrono Cross better.

Plus FF6 was the shit. I can't sit and play Chrono Trigger without wanting to switch over.

Meh. FFVI was may favorite game in the whole world until I played CT. It didn't really change, but I love both the same.

I made this crappy thing for Chrono Trigger AND Cross... about a few months ago XD.

Chrono Trigger and Cross need remakes. But I never really played Cross. I want to.

also, if you don't mind me asking whats so great about CC's battle system(whats so great about the defend command steel?)? Personally, I didn't really enjoy it much, it had a few nice ideas(the attack command and the whole elemental field thing), but I felt it was kinda lacking.

I barely remember but lets look dis up

Neither turn-based nor active-time - what madness is this? Why, it's the Chrono
Cross battle system, of course.

Describing Chrono Cross' battle system is much easier with visuals, so if this
text is incomprehensible for you, but alas - my visual guide has long since
receded into the annals of history. So here's my best effort at a text-based
description.

Chrono Cross has three numbers which indicate a character's battle status.

The first and most obvious is HIT POINTS, which determine who lives and
  who dies.

The second number is the ELEMENT LEVEL. Rather than using Magic Points,
Chrono Cross Element use is determined by a histogram which rather
resembles the level displays on a stereo. Refer to the Magic section
  below for more information.

The third number is shown at the bottom of the character status
indicator, and that is STAMINA. Stamina determines who can attack, and
the number and power of their possible attacks at once.

Each character begins battle with his or her stamina at 7 (maximum), the
Elements at 0 (minimum) and with however many hit points are carried over from
previous battles. Because the game is not real-time like Final Fantasy's
Active-Time Battle system, you can stand and stare at your enemy for as long as
you want while you devise a strategy.

What does determine the flow of battle is Stamina points. For each attack a
character launches, that fighter uses a set number of Stamina points. Similar to
Xenogears, a strong attack uses 3 Stamina points, a medium attack uses 2, and a
weak attack inflicts little damage but uses a paltry 1 Stamina point. But while
a fighter's Stamina is being used up by physical attacks, 2 things are
happening.

  1. Other characters (enemies and allies alike) are recharging their own
Stamina to prepare for an attack.

  2. The active character builds his or her Element Level for each successful
     attack landed.

A successful attack that costs 3 Stamina Points will add 3 Levels to the Element
meter if it connects (and whether or not it connects, everyone else's Stamina
will rise 3 points); but a 1-Stamina Point attack will only add a single level
to the meter. A strong attack that misses is a real waste - not only do you lose
3 Stamina Points, but you earn nothing on your Element Meter, leaving you more
vulnerable. Using an Element attack drains seven Stamina points - so if you have
only 1.0 Stamina point left, using an Element will knock you down to -6.0, out
of combat for 7 points on the Stamina meter. You must have at least 1 full point
of Stamina in order to initiate any move; otherwise you will have to wait until
enough combat "time" elapses to bring you up to one Stamina point.

When you begin to attack an enemy, a small box opens that displays your chances
of landing a successful blow. With each successive strike, your chances improve.
Weak attacks are more likely to hit than strong attacks, especially at the
beginning. But as you score more damage, you will have more success with strong
blows. A 3-point attack may have only a 60% chance of connecting at the
beginning of a round, but after landing a few 1- or 2-point strikes, a strong
attack may rise to 85% success or even higher. Balancing your attacks is
imperative.

However, despite the obvious advantage of consecutive strikes, you're not
required to strike only a single enemy per move. Nor are you required to attack
with the same fighter. At any time, you can switch your attacks to a different
foe; you may also choose to have a different character pick up the attack.
However, switching targets or fighters will destroy the statistical advantage
your successful attacks against an enemy may have generated. But aborting
attacks is the key to effective Summoning and Combinations, rather like
Xenogears' AP but less tedious.

One other consideration - enemies can interrupt your attacks to launch their own
strikes between your hits. If an enemy targets the active character (a
successful hit isn't necessary, so long as your character is attacked) after two
successful weak hits, it will destroy that character's statistical advantage and
all hit % ratings will drop to where they started.

Personally, I rarely use all 7 Stamina points for attacks. If I'm down to one
last enemy, I'll use my last Stamina point for an Element to end the fight
quickly. But if I'm up against multiple enemies, especially those which use
strong attacks, I'll use my last Stamina point to Defend and reduce damage. Yes,
that's right - Chrono Cross may be the first RPG ever in which defending is not
only useful, but is something that can be done frequently without bogging down
the battle. Amazing but true! Defending cuts physical attacks by as much as 2/3,
so judicious defending is a wise combat decision. Be aware that Defending also
causes 1 Stamina point to be regenerated rather than used, although a character
must have at least 1 Stamina point before they can initiate Defending. Yeah, I
know, I know, but it makes a lot more sense when you actually play it. Really.

You could also run from battles including 90% of the boss fights.

I don't think there's a single other RPG on the market (with enclosed battles) that lets you run from bosses.
