So, the new Hulk movie. It's a 'Marvel reboot' of the franchise, ignoring the previous film and going its own way. It stars Edward Norton, Liv Tyler, Tim Roth and William Hurt. The director is Louis Leterrier who did the Transporter films and Unleashed (with Jet Li).

Quote from: IMDB Plot Synopsis
Depicting the events after the Gamma Bomb. 'The Incredible Hulk' tells the story of Dr Bruce Banner, who seeks a cure to his unique condition, which causes him to turn into a giant green monster under emotional stress. Whilst on the run from military which seeks his capture, Banner comes close to a cure. But all is lost when a new creature emerges; The Abomination.

I saw this last night (Australia got it a day early) and although I'm not a big comic book fan, this movie was actually pretty damn good. It's not incredibly deep but balances the emotion it has with the action well, Ed Norton is great and the CGI is fantastic (not totally seamless, but definitely not distracting and it's visually very spectacular). The pacing is great - the action isn't too drawn out and the dialogue is well placed and keeps the film moving forward rather than being pointless exposition.

All round I think fans will be pretty pleased, criticism has been leveled at the CGI Hulk but it really suits the film and once you've seen it you'll understand why it works. The movie isn't gonna change lives or anything like that, but it is a very good popcorn film and will definitely entertain.

So yeah, thoughts? Gonna see it?

How was the movie compared to the last one?

I hated that release (boring Hulk zzz & Banner scenes especially), but loved the Hulk comics. :)

I haven't seen the last, but from all accounts I've heard (my friends who were with me saw it) it's a lot better.

Certainly not boring at all. It's a real 'see it in the movies' film, very good action.

Does Liv Tyler ruin this film, or does she play her usual role as the crying woman with puffy red eyes who stares off into the sky?

I thought it was pretty good. I could feel the anger in the battles, especially the last one.

And Liv does have a scene where she has red puffy eyes and is staring into the sky at the Hulk.

My beautiful thread... RIP
http://www.gamingw.net/forums/index.php?topic=4717.0

I've actually been rather sceptic about the film. The trailers have been awful and I have a hard time seeing Edward Norton as Bruce Banner. I think Eric Bana was a better choice because he was a rather unknown actor when he did it. Anyway, lately the positive buzz have given me some hope that it's actually good. I like Hulk as a character and Edward Norton ranks among my favorite actors despite feeling out of place here.

We'll see.

You don't have to see the first movie. They are not related in anyway. This is a new take on the franchise.

Oh , I didn't know that! Thanks Liman :) I'll see if there's any of my friend want to come and see it then.  Actually , my bad. I should have read the first post more carefully = =  PTizzle already stated that this is a new take and not a sequence.

So it's either this or The Happening. Tough choice :S

The Happening has gotten some really terrible reviews from what I've heard. Really slow and boring. That's something you can rent later. Go with the smashing Hulk.

I refuse to see this film. I'm not a big fan of the Hulk - and I do not see Edward Norton as the character either... he just doesn't fit the role at all. He even annoys me in the trailer, and honestly I don't mind him in other films. I'm just going to pass on this and wait until the Dark Night gets here.

Must see film.

Comes in 2nd place to Iron Man, but this is the best super hero film (barring Iron Man) in quite some time.

Marvel seems to be on a nice streak here.

pasting my replyfrom another forum

so i just saw incredible hulk and i liked it a lot. the fight scenes and shit were totally badass (ie. no pussy martial arts shit but just GIANTS BASHING THE FUCK OUT OF EACH OTHER) it was brutal and raw and totally my kind of fighting. beyond that the movie wasn't really SPECTACULAR but it was really solid. it's been said that it's just as good as iron man and i'd agree. it's a very different feel from iron man but it's definitely got the same QUALITY to it as a film. the highlight is definitely the hulk scenes and shit but there's a lot on edward norton's "Regular" bruce banner too and it's really nice.

the best thing about the movie i'd say (other than the way the fight scenes were handled) is that it isn't an ORIGIN STORY THANK GOD. the origin story is explained in a montage behind the opening credits and referenced throughout the movie. SO MANY superhero movies these days are bogged down by telling the origin story, and this does a really nice job of putting it behind and just getting to the shit that people want to see.

the ending hints at the avengers in a pretty cool way when tony stark shows up. this time, we don't even have to wait through the credits (i didn't wait, so there's a chance there was more afterwards (a pretty decent chance that there's another nick fury scene actually but i dont know)). there were also lots of shit that totally could have been/were referencing CAPTAIN AMERICA's own origin story within the movie.

i mean when i first heard of the plans for the avengers shit i was really excited, after seeing iron man i started really looking forward to it and now i can't wait. hurry up with captain america and thor!! >:o

Ever since Marvel started their independent production company, all their trailers have been REALLY REALLY SHIT compared to the movies.

Why is this!!??

Saw it tonight, it was a pretty packed house. There were surprisingly a lot of kids there too, I feel like there should be such a disconnect from little kids and comics these days, I mean I never read comics when I was a kid I figured there werent a whole lot of younger kids these days reading them either. Are there still cartoons on tv, or do most of these heroes live on in kid culture because of toys and stuff?

Anyways I thought it was a pretty entertaining movie. I loved how they laid out the first parts of the film, quickly presenting the origin story in montage and fleshing it out throughout the film, its refreshing. The whole scientist on the run scenario was pretty tight too. Its remarkable that a place like where hes hiding actually exists, those houses are crazy.

The CG doesn't really bother me so much because its a definite improvement over the last film, and its as realistic as I can really imagine, I mean we are talking about a green giant essentially, there's not really a spot in my brain that knows 'normal' for that. I think the Hulk is probably forever destined for a bit of uncanny valley.

The fights are pretty sweet, they seem to find a good mix of destructive carnage and super strength. I do think its a bit weird that the two giants can throw each other around so much, I mean shouldn't their strength be about fitted for each other? It makes sense that they can throw us a mile, not each other.

Overall I'm pretty happy with Marvel at the moment, this is a worthy next move after Iron Man, and they did good even though the first one was a more hip and less serious franchise. They do have their hardest stuff to come though, its gonna be hard to hype the next few movies, Captain America I feel won't be extremely hard but Ant Man and Thor, It'll be interesting to see how that handle it. They better have some damn good money set aside for those advertising campaigns.

I never understood why people complained about the CG in "HULK". Yes, it looked silly when he jumped around but that's not poor CG... that's something else. I mean, compare the pictures below:

I personally think the previous film looks better in terms of CG but I haven't seen the new one so I can't be sure.

I just saw it, thought it was alright. What I'm really liking about these new Marvel movies is that they're in tune with the Marvel universe. In other words, all the franchises are connected; just like in the comics. The conversation about the super soldier project was cool.

There should have been more Lonely Man theme... Am I the only one who noticed Tim Blake Nelson's transformation into THE LEADER in this movie? I was really surprised by that; can't wait.
