So apparently mine is kicking the bucket, OR IS IT???

The main problem with my ps2 is that for some reason it decided to not read copied discs anymore. Well, it *does* read them, like after turning it off/on for like, 50 plus times, then it MAY read it and then its perfect, untill you turn it off and turn it on later....

The weird thing is that this is happening with only the discs I copied, and not the copied ones I buy. Originals are, well, one shot start, so are the copied ones I bought.
The fucked up part is that it was fine like, last week. This game I was playing was awesome, but now it doesn't even start, (and neither does the rest of the self copied ones), unless i restart about 40-50 times, (needless to say about the 10th time in I'm ready to give it the hammer)

The second issue is the vibration. I just bought a new controller because i thought the old one was busted or something, but no, the new one doesn't vibrate either, but it does on a friends ps2, which leads me to believe that my ps2 vibration is fucked.

Anyway, vibration aside, has anyone had the same problem, or know how this could be fixed?

Sounds like your laser is dying. I'd call up Sony and see what your replacement options are. Last time my PS2 did that (2002?), I sent it to sony and they sent me a new one back with an extra controller and power/video cables. I'm not so sure if they will do that today, however. Repair shops may charge you so much you might as well buy a new one. If you do get a new one, look for one of the models that reads burnt media more easily, or can be cheaply modified to do so.

Also, you may want to run a drive cleaning CD in there in case the laser-eye is dirty.

I don't think its the laser, because like I said, original games run at first go, and even bought copied ones, all except those I copied myself. I don't want to send it to repair, last time I did it, they charged me $95, and didn't even fix it. (And a new one is like $399)

@straightXedge

retarded? how rude man. If you can't help, then don't post. And yes, bought copied games, they sell em for like $20 (or $8 for old ones) and it even has the labels on the disc and everything.

Is the exchange rate/shipping that bad, Aten?  You can buy a PS2 here in the US for like...  $100 new.  I saw a "Singstar Edition" this weekend for I think $110.  And Gamestop here, you can buy new games for PS2 around $30-40, and used is DEFINITELY under $20.  Hell, I bought a copy of FF12 Special/Limited Edition new for $18?  Something like that?

What's the deal with that?  I mean, if you want to wire money or something, shit, I'll take care of getting you the system/games or something.  No point in paying $400 for a new one...  That's fucking crazy.

Thanks for that but I don't have any kind of card or anything, so I can't send money, but FUCK, $20 for a used PS2? Damnnnnn.

BTW, mine is the old one, not the new slim one, I just wish someone knew what to fix, because as it stands, I can play anything I want except those I torrent and burn.

Maybe its the disc I'm using???? What kind of disc is recommended for burning games? The ones I use are the LG brand dvds with the plain white top.

(unless that kinda thing isnt allowed then nevermind)

If what you say is true, it might be that your PS2 can't read dvd discs anymore. Try running a dvd movie on it to see if it works. If it doesn't, I'm right.

New update.

Apparently, some of the discs I copied, waaaaay back, (but the same LG brand DVD) STILL WORK  :cursing: and yet some games burned as far back as last week, (and some today) DON'T work

For example, I burned FFX some time back, yet when I tested it, BOOM it started, no problem. So I copied it again (from my original FFX) on the same disc with the same settings, YET IT DOESN'T WORK (unless you reset it a billion times) and neither do any of the oher latest burns (like Shadow Hearts 2, which I did yesterday)

Why not get a boot loader for your PS2, a network drive and a hard drive. Put games on the hard drive, and the bootloader loads from it. Gives you a menu and you can pick which games you want. No disks required. Not sure if that is a feasible option for you.

Sounds ultra awesome, but not feasible :(

Maybe Alec is on to something, I'm gonna try to burn using another comp and see what happens.

Well back in the day when not everyone had a burner I paid for pirate games too... They were like $10 at first and towards the end of the PSX era, they costed like $1 (I still remember going to the markets trying to find obscure games on those $1 bins)

Also yes... Sounds like your laser... I know the PSX was pretty easy to take apart and calibrate the thing (Was done with a small screwdriver), that usually provided a small-moderate benefit... I think the PS2 is harder to do...

Still, you could try and find a tutorial to calibrate the spinning speed, and if it doesn't help... Look at getting a new lens...

Also, I suggest you try other media and burning speeds... What speed are you burning your games at? I've found through experience that 4x seems to be the optimal since it's the speed of the PS2 reader...

(And try to see what media the discs you bought are...)

Check on how you copy the game. You must have burned it wrong maybe that's why.

Well, today I loaded Shadow Hearts2, and it started in one go, no "reseting 50 times". I mentioned the media I'm using above, but I'm not sure at all what the store is using, because unlike the blue/purple underside that normal blank dvd's have, the ones they use has kind of a goldish, yellowish underside, which is definitely something regular blank dvd's don't have.

And I read how to adjust the laser, but the weird thing is that I can't see the cog they are saying to turn. My top cover is off, so I can see the disc, if I eject the tray, the whole thing is wide open, but I can't see for damn any cogs or shit, only the laser head, (which comes up and down with the power)
