that's the thing. maybe we don't see them as "intensely personal" now. years ago, i would never have told ANYONE. but now, like i said before, i'm starting to see these things as mere events in the past that don't need to impact me any more than they already did. telling others about it all is just a way to further make it seem like that. the more you tell, the less scary it is to think about.
EDIT: also for my story i was kinda trying purposely to NOT make it seem dramatic. i mean, i was like "yeah so that year sucked". i was being pretty casual about it.
i'm in the same boat. stupid things that happened to me years ago are hilarious now and i don't mind sharing them today.
here's my
battle with cancer story. in middle school i got this strange lump on my arm that i thought was a tumor. the lump was the size of a golfball. but it didn't hurt. it did bruis up my arm and was very unsightly but shit like this doesn't exactly happen on a daily basis and i was scared. i hid it in long sleeve shirts and freaked out and i seriously thought i was going to die. i went through numerous scans and stuff to determine if it was cancer but they all came up negative. every doctor in the state was completely baffled by this until eventually the lump resided. some doctors tried to say it was a rare but benign buildup of fat cells or something but it hasn't appeared ever again so i tend to forget about it.
in elementary school there was also this three year period where i got strange afflictions on my tongue. the doctors called it an "ulcer" but it would come and go consistently. basically, it bored a
hole in my tongue (or under my tongue) and literally ate away the tissue. i went through several periods of intense surgery where doctors tried to stitch it up (one of them actually cut off a huge chunk of tissue for testing) but to no avail. i still have the twin scars that run down my tongue and the "disease" or whatever was so serious that it almost split my tongue in three like a fork. my tongue has healed up pretty good after surgery but if i'm not piss drunk after tonight i'll take some pictures and show you guys what my tongue looks like because the scars are pretty cool looking.
