I do agree with Lyndon about the "you're a deplorable human being" stuff, though.  While it makes sense if someone is spouting off some racist crap, I definitely see "horrible person" being used for trivial reasons as well.  It kinda loses its effect when more than half of GW consists of horrible human beings!

YOU LIKE MARIO MORE THAN SONIC!?!?!? YOU WASTE OF OXYGEN, GO DIE!!!  :fogetangry:

To be fair most of the debates are more like semi-intelligent discussion until an EXTREMIST comes in. Most of the posters are various shades of gray up until that point and have some backing reason up until that point, until someone gives no real reason for their belief.

i guess this is about posting styles too and i have to say a newer but awesome posting style that i really like is the "naive, oblivious, possibly aspergers" style.

No I know Chef does it a lot (he does it pretty well) and I think adeline has done it rather successfully as well (his game jokes topic is where i kind of first noticed this style)

yeah nesting parentheses is a good one.  i don't think it was steel that did that one but it's barely even a THING so it might've been no one in particular.  i think a lot of posts sort of go off on tangents that end up having multiple branches to them, so it might be a product of that.

also excessive question marks although i guess that falls under the category of excessive ellipses too.  just EXCESSIVE PUNCTUATION all around, really.

and yeah i'm inclined to agree that when there are two people in a debate vs all of gw and they are being insulted it is probably because those two people are really fucking dumb and the issue is something only an idiot would argue (gay: right or wrong???)

GW = debate hell. there's always a majority, and then one or two people who see it differently. the majority insults them, and the topic gets locked.
the people of GW are all pretty decent, intelligent people though, which is really cool.
No, it's actually mostly the same as with any other forum. That is, some people (with a minority viewpoint) can apparently not defend themselves and end up complaining about being treated unfairly.

I had to reply to you because this place is actually better than any other place I know as far as (political) debates go. The discussion here is often very deep and refined, and we mostly owe that to a few very active members. You should really see some of the longer topics we've had here and you'll get what I mean. I do agree that topics get locked too quickly these days, though. I used to deliberately let them continue even if things became a little personal.

i think gw is a pretty good site because we've basically weeded out the kind of people that are responding to gamesmasterjasper videos (who are pretty much the kind of people you would expect on gw). i also like that a lot of us don't care about rpg maker or even video games.

gw is also about the least internet site on the internet.

also really long run on sentences. i tend to use them a lot and i have notice this trend among many members. gw sometimes read like some goddamn stream of vconsicousness experiment, especially with all the targ and pseudo targ, run on sentences, and slack grammar

i don't really feel like they were such a huge presence to begin with.  like i can't remember a time when gw really had any large amount of awful awful videogame nerds with no social skills whatsoever.  also we are LESS INTERNET than other shit like sa/4chan but it's not like we don't get our own gay memes.

i've noticed the run on sentences too. i'm pretty guilty of using them occasionally as well, but i don't mind.
