This is probebly a first, but OMFG i think i just had a proverbial orgasm. Chronotrigger is one of the best, (if not the best) JRPG i have ever played, its one of the few RPGs where i tried to find everything and even took the long way around to beat the game (though the black sun (thats what it was called right?)) Even if this is 2D i would still buy and play it, i just hope there are a few new additions to make the game a little differant, (not that it wasn't a good game as it was :P).

whats the name of the game who's screenies were shown earlier?

I think some people need to kinda open their minds and see the bigger picture. It's not just "lol you so angry, people buy what they want". Buy buying a worthless product (a quick rehash of a 12 year old game with no effort gone into re-releasing for the DS and charged at full price) you're helping the market perpetuate a series of worthless products. Essentially people who buy things like this have a major negative impact on the games industry.

Remember that topic not even last week which said that Square-Enix aren't even gonna put an ounce of original thought in their games anymore (something they've actually been doing since about 1999/2000 it seems). How can you still think this means they'll do 3D Chrono trigger, PS3 FF7, NEW CT SEQUEL. This just means they'll keep pumping out the same shit with slight superficial changes (FF6 with customisable wardrobe, JUST WHAT YOU ALWAYS NEEDED TO UNDERSTAND THE GAME) and you lot'll keep buying it. How can you people not understand that this is a BAD THING? Do you really want to Dress up Bartz that damn much?

They're relying on your fanboiness, that sense of nostalga that manchildren cling onto, and just using it to make them money at the expense of people who are too stupid to see that they're getting absolutely nothing. If you've already got the game it's just like chucking $40 in the bin. $40 could be spend on a new game, an original one or an indy one which needs consumers? $40 could be spent on a lot of things. I used to be really retarded about things like this (Transformers) but actually hitting money problems made me grow up a lot, and I can really see how stupid I was buying the same shit over again because of DIFFERENT PAINT SCHEMES. This is exactly the same thing except y'know CT DS won't be worth any money in the future.

I realize that, but i never had a chance to buy it the first time round, i had to experience it on the PC through shitty emulation ( had a rubbish computer back then) and i realise i could emulate it again, but why do that when there releasing it on the DS?
I hate how square is not putting enough thought into there games any more, but it won't stop me buying one or two of their games that i really want, no matter how re-hashed it is CT is one game i will always love.
Yes i am slightly annoyed that they aren't doing any more then a new dungeon, but i don't care, its CT so i can allow it that much simply because it has one of the best stories which is ultimately what i buy an RPG for.

It's true that this is basically one of the most assiest things SE could do with Chrono Trigger. But still, there's a whole generation of gamers that can buy the game, although they might have already played it via emulator (I know I did).

i don't get square. didn't they release final fantasy 5 (or 3 maybe) for DS but they actually gave it all new graphics (3-D) changed nothing esle? as i remember they kept everything in the game the exact same and just made NEW GRAPHICS FINAL FANTASY. this doesn't make any sense at all for a lot of reasons, first of all because 5 (or 3 i am stupid??) was not the most popular in the series and also why the fuck are they remaking an old game instead of making a new one. a lot of old games do not age well at all and i don't get why you'd restrict yourself like that instead of just making a final fantasy from scratch. i guess if square is going to be completely retarded they could at least remake a really popular / good game (ie. chrono trigger) with NEW GRAPHICS or whatever but they won't even do that.

anyway this is retarded. this game has a market for people who have never played the original, so there is a legitimate reason for it's existence, but i don't see why anyone who played the game should pick it up.

also octave made a really good post and all i would like to add to that is that virutal console shit and even a lot of xbox live stuff that is retro is just as worse. pacman for xbox live sold a ridiculous amount, and honestly who here hasn't played pacman? people just buy this shit just to own it. GOTTA HAVE PACMAN. it's also ridiculously priced too. 5 bucks for fucking pacman? it's absolutely incredible. it's like shooting fish in a barrel for these companies. spend peanuts porting a game, sell millions.

This port is acceptable in Europe, since Chrono Trigger was never released here.

FF3 wasn't released in America until the DS remake, if I remember right. Not sure.

even if that's the case, the game got average reviews and was very outdated. i'm simply saying why bother remaking an old game very few people cared about? yet something like chrono trigger, which should get better than typical treatment, gets a new dungeon. i really don't understand any of this. especially with the FF3 DS game having all new graphics, i have no idea why they didn't just make an entirely new game. something like the new super mario brothers for DS is a pretty good way to update an older game. what they're doing here though just doesn't make too much sense.

I think Square-Enix has just become too afraid to take risks. Rather than trying new ideas which could either succeed brilliantly or fail miserably (which I think they're afraid of), they'd rather just rehash what they know will work because it already has..

Old games that are regarded as the best in their genre will typically sell well.. And I guess rather than running the risk of losing money off of a new idea, they'd rather play it safe (a little too safe) and put out something that would cost them very little but would sell fairly well.

They're just getting lazy and/or overly cautious I think.

Tetsuya Nomura has said that even though it's been ported there has always been a wanting need to make the game for a higher resolution format Such as 3D. But felt that fans might be betrayed As many loved the simplicity Of the original.

Some friend told me that couldn't find the concrete source anymore :o

I think the FF Tactics PSP port was actually a really good idea, because the original Tactics had a RIDICULOUSLY horrible translation. Like, it didn't even make sense half the time. Retranslating it was a good idea. Can't use that excuse in this case, because there was nothing wrong with CT's translation.

I'd even defend Disgaea's port to a portable system because its method of character advancement is really perfect for SHORT BURSTS or plane trips or w/e. The Item World is almost like a puzzle game and would be good for a bus ride or w/e.

And yeah... Valkyrie Profile is like $100+ on eBay. If you don't want to bother with spotty PSX emulation, a port is your best bet for owning it without throwing away a wad of cash.

WHY SO SERIOUS HAHAHAHHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAA

this is a complete lie afaik (but very commonly said on rom sites). you can emulate it all the hell you want anyways, you have more of a chance of winning the lottery six times in a row than getting fined or whatever for downloading ROMs, seriously.
