When I was young we were robbed 3 TIMES, we lived in a pretty poo neighbourhood and next to a local gang who used to throw beer bottles over the fence once they had drank them. I used to be scared of sleeping after that and I remember the thing that broke my heart the most was coming home and seeing my home made piggy bank with art all over it squashed in the corner with the 20 dollars change taken out :(

We were in a similar situation when we first moved in to our house. There was an abandoned house with a bunch of drugged up teenagers living a few houses down (mostly with colourful mohawks and leather clothing with chains and so on!) and we got robbed 3 times in a year. Every house but one in our street got robbed, as I recall. It didn't take the police long to destroy the house and move them along after that though (I dunno if they arrested anyone or not). There's a really nice block of fancy units there now which is funny considering what it used to be.

I've also been mugged a couple of times when I was younger.

But yeah that sucks TC, personal stuff is really the one thing you can't get back (I never lost any of that). Must've been a bit of a downer after a week away at work.

Never been robbed, but but at the old apartment complex I lived in years ago three units were burgled in the span of two weeks and I remember my mom being somewhat distraught about the possibility of ours being done in eventually.  Back then, the new school year had started and both my parents work in the morning until the early evening so there was usually no one home until my older brother and I got home from school around 2:45 pm.  I remember hearing my mom say things like she wouldn't be surprised to get a call from one of us telling her that we had been robbed.

Fortunately it never happened though and within two months of that string of thefts we managed to move to a better location; at least one where we didn't feel as if something could happen at any moment.

Having anything stolen from you no matter the circumstance kind of sucks because of the feeling of helplessness you have.  I'm sure it's even worse having things that can't be replaced (like those baby pics).  Definitely some BS for you bro having his stuff for college stolen, that's some lame crap right there.

My parents' house was robbed once before I was born. In broad daylight. They smashed in a window and began loading their truck when our neighbours noticed, who charitably decided to watch it happen. They called the police five minutes after the burglars left. The police were too late, of course, but they still proceeded to barricade every exit out of town. Needless to say, my parents never saw their stuff again, and the neighbours' house suffered a mysterious rain of cat poo (which was probably of said neighbours' cat).

Getting robbed sucks, hope everything works out man.

None of the places I've lived in were actually robbed, but we've been robbed a couple times before. Years ago, when we went to visit relatives in New York, we were robbed in the middle of the street. We parked the car outside, and we were going to bring all of our luggage, bags, etc upstairs to the hotel. My dad figured it would be best to get everything sorted out before we took everything inside, so we locked all the doors and went inside. Five minutes later, we come back out and everything is gone. Most of our clothes, video games, and a bunch of other things were gone. This actually happened twice, but they were about 2-3 years apart, and was the exact same scenario.

Being robbed sucks.

I've been robbed a few times. Once, when I was about 10 my bike got stolen over night, but that's a long time ago.

More recently, my ipod got stolen from my car over night. I always brang it in, but one night I forgot as I had to hop into the car at around 11pm and forgot about bringing it back before bed. I came to my car the next morning to find a bunch of papers and everything in my car scattered and the ipod and its adapters gone. They didn't take anything else which was good but it was a shitty feeling to know people out there will go into your shit like that and commit this petty crime instead of working hard for their own stuff.

Also, my store got robbed about 2 months ago.

We're a small store with a tight group of staff (6 full time) and when we got robbed it felt almost personal. I could tell my boss felt like crap because to him, the owner of this who has puts tons of money into it and a lot of time, it felt like a personal attack on him.

Needless to say, being robbed blows. It always makes me feel like those people are total scum and as of this point, I have no remorse for them. Someone who is willing to go and take my hard-earned goods from me, especially luxury items (If they stole some food to survive, I'd understand) is just a total scumbag and doesn't deserve to live in this society.

I was robbed a couple months ago.
I was visiting a friend of mine, and went to bed on his couch and whatnot, woke up in the morning, looked out the window, my van had been stolen(I had my key on me, so it was hotwired or some shit!).   So I alerted the police, they'd already found it- it was towed after being found in a ditch.   I got it back, they stole my PSP. ):

I was relieved, though, since they didn't take my 8-track box full of MTG Cards, since I had a ton of valuable ones in there. D:

When I just started high school, I accidently caught the wrong bus, so I got home later than usual, but when I got there, I noticed that the bathroom window was broken. So I grabbed every knife I could and I started checking my house. When I went in my room, my PS2 and all of its games and memory cards were gone, but everyone else's stuff had stayed the same. I didn't have that many PS2 games, and even then I didn't like half of them, but still...that shit cost a lot money!

But yeah, it was obvious as hell who stole it, and then asshole tried to get all self-righteous with some, "Why would you lie on me like that? I got probation!"

It was pathetic but funny at the same time. Dude was really stupid to steal his ex's brother's shit as if no one would know that he did it. Although, I'm sure he was delighted to find out that he stole a bunch of RPGs that I'm sure he didn't like and promptly sold.

From the sounds of what they took, it was probably kids or teenagers just snagging some stuff to trade for pot probably. So if you know some of the dealers in your town ask around and maybe they can tell you who stole your stuff.

Yeaster, when someone steals something from you and you know who it is, the easiest (and most hilarious) thing to do is to steal it back.

one time i came home from junior high school or something and noticed that the house was really messy. stuff was all over the place and i was just kinda like "duur maybe dad got into an argument with mom and smashed things around the house like he always does, don't expect me to clean this shit up"

then my brother came home like 20 minutes later and was like "dude i think we got robbed"

and i'm just like "oh shit"

so we call our dad and he says like "uh yeah guys i think we got robbed too!"

and yeah, that's pretty much how it all went. they took some jewelry but i'm not sure what else. it was a good thing that they couldn't find where our family keeps all our money. my video games were taken out too but they didn't steal them for whatever reason.

we live in this condo thingy so i'm pretty sure it was one of the neighbors

edit: i forgot to mention, when i was like 7 or something i had this cute little pink bicycle with a built in radio and it was pretty much a very pimp bicycle and someone stole that too.

I live in a pretty nice neighbourhood, but it's right next to a park with a ravine in it where lots of kids go to do drugs, so we get our share of hooligans just marauding down my street pretty much every night (although lately it hasn't been so bad since the cops kept driving their cars INTO THE RAVING and scaring kids off) and we've had our garage broken into at least once. I say at least because I am pretty sure they have broken in more than once but were scared off by STACKS OF HUGE APPLIANCES and stuff all the other times. Anyways, they stole my brother's bike (which was really my bike since I used it all the time) and a bunch of hockey sticks (not even good hockey sticks) and probably some other shit no one noticed went missing. Oh, and some minor sports stuff like some basketballs. I was bummed about the bike, but whatever. What really sucked is that I heard the garage door open but I thought it was my dad just putting the garbage out or something in the middle of the night for morning pickup (having forgotten to do it earlier), so I didn't do shit. My dad knew someone was breaking in and didn't do anything, which really pissed me off. Stupid kids!

Also I got "mugged" once by this guy and his friends. I was riding home from a party on my bike (which later got stolen) and this kid stopped my friend and started asking him if he had any money or anything. The kid's friends were all urging him to leave it alone and were trying to get out of there, and I was ready to jump the kid from behind while he was bugging my friend for cash, but my cowardly friend gave him a nickel and told the kid that was all he had on him and the guy apparently believed him and left. My friend had at least fifty dollars on him in bills, so we had a good laugh, but then he asked me not to tell anyone what happened (mostly because he was ashamed of himself for getting mugged by a kid smaller than he was I think) but he was an asshole so I have told pretty much every person I have ever met.

But yeah, I'd be super pissed if I got robbed! I like the things I own. :(

They can always take those luxury items and sell them to buy food if that was their intention.  It would be a lot more rewarding and practical than stealing food out of a refrigerator or something.  If they could sell an iPod for like 150 dollars, that could get them almost two shopping carts full of food - whereas taking someone's toaster strudels and Tapatio sauce wouldn't even get them through the night.

Of course, who the hell robs to buy food these days?  They probably just wanted some extra pocket change to buy some SLAMMIN' gear (or drugs).

That sucks.  I've never been robbed...  People have tried to mug me several times, but nothing a good fist/foot to their face didn't fix.  Thank god only once it was with a gun.  I nearly soiled myself then, but took the opportunity that he was so fixated on blowing my brains out (or threatening to) to smack the gun away raising my hands, broke his arm in half and his knee, then called him an ambulance.  Ugh.

Definitely watch Craigslist of nearby cities and talk to the pawn shops in your neighborhood.  More than likely, the person who broke in is someone you actually know or know indirectly.  That's how most small-town crimes go, supposedly.  Not like a stranger from another area of town would randomly wander across the town, looking for an unlocked door -- it was very clearly done by someone who knows you and can look at that door without it being an issue.

unfortunately I have no advice no one else has given, but thank god you weren't hurt etc!

Terin, don't beat yourself up for calling him an ambulance. Sure, the guy is waste, but it just goes to demonstrate that not only was the calibre of his pistol useless against your might, but the calibre of your morality is superior also.

So, I've been at work for the last week. I work away from home (OIL RIGS and shit, some of you probably know a bit from me talking about it.)

I got on dry land about 5 hours ago. My mother picks me up, I get in the car and I say "Hey mum, how's the week been?" There's a look of misery on her face. Then she says, "We got burgled last night." I pause for a moment to take it in... Burgled? We live in a shitty little town, population of like 8000 (max), where everyone I know is pretty chilled out.

I'm baffled as to how it happened. My mum always locks the door, my brother stays up playing World of Warcraft to the early hours of the morning. How can someone steal shit from right under their noses?

She tells me she came downstairs this morning, wanted to go outside for her morning smoke, grabbed the back door key and went to unlock the door, only to realise it was already open. "Strange" she thought. She swore she'd locked it the night before. Then she looked around. Her bag was missing. She thought she'd just misplaced it, positive that with her scatty brain she'd just put it down somewhere and forgot where.

She then looks around even more.

Her laptop is missing. Several DVDs are missing from the DVD pile. My brother comes downstairs, looks around at various things and notices his Xbox 360 controllers are gone along with some of his games, he knows they were there the night before cause he was playing them...

It suddenly dawns on my mother that she's been robbed. Her bag is full of credit cards, cash, pictures of me and my brother as babies, letters from friends who live on the other side of the world. She'd been robbed while she slept and my brother was upstairs in his computer room killing dwarves on Warcraft.

There's pretty much a lack of conversation on the way home. She's just too distressed to really talk to me about how my week's been at work, how many big gas compressors I FIXED UP that week, etc. No standard HOW ARE YOU, HOW ARE THE CATS type shit.

So anyway I'm at home now, nothing of mine has been stolen (well, apart from one xbox game I bought a while back).

I'm kind of in a state of shock right now that shit like this can happen right under their noses. The guy/girl/whatever obviously saw an opportunity, noticed the back door hadn't been locked properly (or picked the lock somehow), ran in, grabbed all the shit he/she could and went out again. My mum and brother completely oblivious to the whole thing.

So, to give this topic a point; has anyone here been robbed? Anyone here also TOTALLY BAFFLED how this shit can happen so easily? I can't believe this shit has happened to my family, especially in such a quiet town.

I'm guessing I'm not alone, anyone else here been burgled?

Fuck man, thats raw? I bet D went ape shit when he realised what happend...

Sorry to hear that news bro, that is really shit.

(but to clarify you've been burgled not robbed, robbing involves threats and assaults) and i bet it was sumone who lives up wensum way or st peters. Fakenhams gone downhill...

Man, that sucks ass. This kind of shit I don't even understand, why would someone steal something that is pretty much valueless in terms of money? Like, if they were VHS tapes made of solid gold that is one thing, but otherwise it's just a really dick thing to do. It is like going into someone's house and stealing their photo albums or something!

One of my teachers in high school had been burgled a couple times, and the best advice he gave was to leave some money near the door in plain site. He said the first time some kids trashed the place and stole some beer out of his fridge (and that's it), and the second time a couple months later they just took like twenty bucks that was in a dish near the door and took off. I guess it's better to lose some money than anything with sentimental value.

My sister got burgled recently, by some of the most idiotic burglars ever. She came back from work and found the back door smashed. They took some jewellery (cheap but sentimental stuff), her computer and the laptop she was borrowing from a volunteer group she belongs to.

The stupid part is that when they were taking her computer they took the wireless keyboard and mouse but cut the cables connecting the wireless reciever to the computer. They basically just took the tower, leaving the flatscreen monitor. The irony of this is that her computer was shit, about 6 years out of date and barely running, making her newer monitor the more expensive item of the two. And the laptop they took was branded inside and out with the volunteer groups logo, address and other info. Good luck fencing that morons.
