Vincent van Gogh painted his first major work, The Potato Eaters, not far from here. Oh, and Operation Market Garden passed through here, too.
"Field Marshal Haig is about to make yet another gargantuan effort to move his drinks cabinet six inches close to Berlin."

Sam: "What assurance do you give, Taraka, that this bargain will be kept?"
Taraka: "My word? I shall be happy to swear by anything you care to name--"
Sam: "A facility with oaths is not the most reassuring quality in a bargainer..."

I like Halifax because it's a smaller city with a unique feel to it. It has the urban look, but it has a more relaxed atmosphere and it's nice.. We have an impressive harbour, a rich history, and man.. Can't forget the restaurants. I think I heard on the radio that Halifax is one of the best places in Canada to eat in.

Also, Halifax being small really works for me, because it allows me to walk to work in a relatively short period of time.
So... is Halifax anything like this?: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oz88kJSdT6Y

I live in Spokane, Washington.  It's pretty boring, but it's really just Seattle without the constant rain.

NOTABLE THINGS:

I eat at the diner that Benny & Joon was filmed in quite often
We had a World's Fair in like 1972 I think
Bing Crosby was born here
The guys who do Penny Arcade are from here and (apparently) bitch about how terrible it is here quite often
David Lynch is from here which is pretty awesome
There was also a really bad Comedy Central show that was set here, called Dog Bites Man

David Lynch is from here which is pretty awesome

FUN FACT:  David Lynch later moved to Virginia (either Arlington or Alexandria, I can't remember), and worked somewhere in Georgetown in DC which is where I live.

Grunthor you're from Omaha right? Well I am and it kicks ass.

About Schmidt was filmed a few blocks away from where I am right now. Pretty sweet.
Musically we have Mannheim Steamroller, Brighteyes, 311, Cursive, and Tilly & the Wall, (Saddle Creek Records).
Nick Nolte and Chris Klein (sadly) are both from Omaha.

We also have Omaha Beef, which I suppose some of you fat people would recognize. Probly Doktormartini too.

I live in Linköping, Sweden.

In 1600 there were some executions on the main square which is somewhat ridiculously called a blood bath.
SAAB produces the SAAB Gripen fighter jet here.
The computer club at Linköping University, Lysator, put up the first web server in Sweden in February 1993, among the first 10–15 in the world.
The university's principal is named Mille Millnert.
The roundabout dog originates from Linköping.
There is an IT and computer museum here. I also has an exhibition about gaming.
Linköping is one of few cities in Sweden that has a mayor.

yeah that's about it

- daily dinosaur is awesome!

There is lots of fun to be had here!

Pulling random stuff from Wikipedia/me personal knowledge.

Spokane hosted the first environmentally themed World's Fair in Expo '74, becoming the then-smallest city to ever host a World's Fair.
We host the largest 3-on-3 basketball tournament in the world every summer.
Pig-Out In The Park is an annual summer festival celebrating the joy of food. Local restaurants set up booths all around Riverfront Park.
Bing Crosby was born here.

Thats about it really.

I live in Budapest, the territory was ruled by celts, later romans. They built a lot of stuff, baths, amphitheaters and stuff and they called the whole camp Aquincum. After this our ancestors came to the place and it became the capital of the Kingdom of Hungary. On of our kings, Mathias Corvinus had Europe's greatest collection of historical chronicles and philosophic and scientific works in the 15th century.(-wiki)

After this the ottoman empire(turks) ruled half of the nation, the other half later became the part of the habsburg empire. After the turks left(after 150 years hah) and after some insurrection we formed the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. We kept this setup until world war I where we were allied with the germans. After the war the winner nations reduced the country's size based on ethnic groups mainly. In world war II british and american air attacks destroyed a large part of the city, the nazis demolished most of the bridges and in the top of that soviets captured the city. We became a part of the soviet union after this for 50 years.

THe city itself has some beautiful buildings but it mainly sucks. The most common export products of the city:

-gypsies
-dirt
-porn/whores

Celebs... Edward Teller was born here but he left because it sucks.
