I own a european PS3 and a european copy of FF7 and it freezes on the intro FMV because my disk is scratched. I would be eternally grateful if someone could play FF7 up to the first save point and upload the .PSV file off the PS3 (This requires a pen drive).

I have tried the savegames on gamefaqs and they don't want to work. The only one on there that claims to be a euro .PSV doesn't show up in FF7's load game menu.

Chances are if the intro FMV isn't working the others won't as well, might be better off looking for a ROM or if you have a Disc Doctor (they're about $25 in the U.S.) you might be able to fix it.

Shaving cream works much better than toothpaste.  Just spread a little on the back of the disc, then wipe off with a soft cloth.

I bought a philips cd repair kit or cleaning kit or something like ten years ago. I still have some of the gunk that comes with it today and it still works really well! If I were you, I'd see if you can buy something like that around where you live - they work surprisingly well. Mine has two solutions: one thick goopy thing that gets dabbed on and rubbed off after a few minutes, and then some sort of spray that you polish on afterwards. It has fixed numerous bad discs for me!

I think I will actually do this. I had no idea that they did that. Here's guessing that along with Call of Duty and friends that the price of them spitting on my FF7 has quadrazillioned or because GAME have taken over (Game are dicks huh) they don't have anyone skilled enough to do it anymore...

Yesterday I tried using my dad's JML disc clinic but it's little canister of alcohol spray was long gone. I am somehow skeptical of putting a disc covered in toothpaste into my blu ray drive!

Sony cut it as a cost cutting measure.

SCEE managing director Ray Maguire said Sony will use the money it dedicated towards backwards compatibility to invest in new games or to perhaps lower prices so more gamers can afford to buy a PS3. Personally I think it's total bullshit.

Well, i've had my disc buffered and it LOOKS perfect but still freezes at the exact same position (When Aeris appears amongst green starry particles in the first FMV).

Again, I reiterate - if you have a PAL copy of FF7 and can upload me a game save of the first save point I will be so so grateful.

I don't remember the reason for this (I think it has something to do with the black backs or something else about their make), but PSX games are REALLY bad about not being able to work with scratches.  Their pretty notorious for freezing because of this.

One thing I would recommend is to try buffering your disc with toothpaste (or shaving cream, never tried that, I'll remember it) several times.  I've had discs before that wouldn't work right the first time but after a few more times they were fine.

On the PS1 you could eject the disc, then put it back in and it would skip the FMV.  Try this (I doubt it still works on PS3 though)!

This got my Monster Rancher 2 disc to work which otherwise wouldn't.  It turned out to not be so good because I couldn't figure out how to disc swap at the right time (since you had to swap the disc AND hit the x button), but had it been any other game it would have worked perfectly.

Also, I've read that baking soda toothpaste works best, and from what I've tried it does seem to work nicer.

Ive got a PAL Final Fantasy VII but I'm not sure on how to get the save from the Playstation 3? Could I transfer it to my Playstation Portable?

I tried your save DS and it worked beautifully. After 100 times of trying to get that first FMV to work this is most pleasing - I got up and did a little jig around my room in your honor.
