Dr Horrible's Sing-Along Blog

"Captain Hammer, corporate tool."

I couldn't have put it better than this guy:

Quote from: Shamus Young
What I really wish is that Joss Whedon would make another show. And that Nathan Fillion would be in it. And I wish it would be about something cool. Like superheroes. No! Supervillains! Like, a comedy. A musical comedy maybe. With Neil Patrick Harris. And since I don’t have cable TV, it would be cool if they made the show and then just put it up online. Wouldn’t that be awesome?

Yes. It would be fully and unwaveringly awesome.

Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog is about the strangest idea for a show I’ve seen in a long time. It’s different and interesting and clever and therefore something that would be rejected by any self-respecting television network.
Oh, look at that, I plugged someone's blog. Huh.

Basically, the gist of it is that Joss Whedon, the guy who brought you Firefly, which apparently some people like, has put up a show on the 'net, for free. That is, until July 20th, when it'll be gone again, according to the master plan. Well, I say gone, but I mean you'll have to pay for it. So enjoy your free supervillain musical while it lasts. Acts I and II are up already, but you'll have to wait 'till July 19th for what seems to be the final part, Act III. Don't wait too long, though, or you'll miss it and you'll be forced to buy, like, the DVD. Ew.

So, once again:

Dr Horrible's Sing-Along Blog

Watch it. Now. It'll only take you, like, half an hour, which arguably you could be spending on doing chores or curing cancer or playing World of Warcraft or picking your nose or whatever. But do watch it, really soon.

Sam: "What assurance do you give, Taraka, that this bargain will be kept?"
Taraka: "My word? I shall be happy to swear by anything you care to name--"
Sam: "A facility with oaths is not the most reassuring quality in a bargainer..."

That was actually pretty cool.

Is it just me or does all of Joss Whedon's stuff have a really similar style? Except I'm not really fond of it.

I can't stop watching this... I need this music...

Yeah. I'm a sucker for musicals. There's just so much good in musicals, I love it when people suddenly burst out in song.

"It's a brand new day
and the sun is high
all the angels sing
because you're gonna die"

More of this kind of stuff please. Of course it doesn't always have to be musicals I guess. The concept alone is good too.

I really hate musicals, but this is so well put-together that I love it.

Ugh... I really really liked the first two Acts, but the third one just dropped the entire light-hearted tone and went downhill I think!

Wow... I was not expecting that AT ALL.  Now I'm going to be miserable for the rest of the week.

I definitely agree it was good, just not at all what I was expecting.  I'd love to see more too though.

Hated the ending. All the music in the third act was leading up to it though.. I'm going to be a bit miserable too. :(

NPH is a pretty good singer. The other guy, ugh. It might be leading up to more stuff though per the credits & interviews - in which case, it was a great way to introduce the characters.

Nothing will ever make me hate Nathan Fillion.  Firefly was the greatest show ever.

Word.

Also he wasn't singing his own parts, someone else did the songs for him.

GUYS GUYS LISTEN UP: It's going down tonight, so if you haven't watched it yet, hurry up!

For those of you who want more than three acts: Well, three acts is all you're getting this time. I guess you could do something to persuade Joss Whedon to continue making these... like, I don't know, reward him for his efforts... or something...

Personally, I really hope Mr Whedon makes more. I'll be buying the DVD just in case.

I just watched the whole thing and yeah, I agree with everybody, this is pretty awesome.  Some of the writing is actually really clever too like:

girl: sometimes people are layered like that.  theres a second deeper layer that is completely different than whats on the surface
dr horrible:yeah, and sometimes theres an even deeper third layer that is exactly the same as whats on the outside-- like with pie.

there were also some pretty good ones during his speech at the end that I really liked.

The great thing about Joss Whedon is that he is so consistent with that sort of thing.

Yeah but it also sort of permeates everything he writes. This could have easily been an episode of Buffy. In fact there was a musical episode of Buffy, and there were those bumbling evil geek characters too.
