you may not like me, i dont care. Here's what I want to ask though:


let's say (because of how bad the ps3 sold) sony gets knocked out of the next gen console race (xbox 3?, wii 2 w.e).
Would you be willing to see a new company bring in a video game console into the race? Would you still buy it if its an "out-of-the-blue" 4th party indie development company trying to make a name? And let's say hypothetically you want someone already in the electronics race to break from only computers or videos and go into console, if so which ones?

i was thinking about this a few days ago and i think it would be really neat if a new company entered the console wars or w/e. I mean microsoft did it with the XBox, so maybe Google and Sega could team or something weird like that. That would be cool I mean the important factor is that it needs to be innovative in its' business model (like how nintendo makes "games for non-gamers" except way less lame and alienating) and to listen to true gamers. The new console would need to be born of gamers' frustrations or whatever with current companies. Things like the Wii getting shitty games or other consoles being super expensive and whatnot.

I dunno but I think with the proper software ties (which can be helped by having a top-notch SDK for their system) and good marketing with some safe name attached that we all like (like Google...) or whatever, it could become successful.

I'm serious about the google thing too, I mean if you could get a google game console you so would!

Sega could do it if they could partner with someone. I mean, they are still in the software biz, so it would make sense for another company to exclusively team with them and co-finance console development.

i think doesn't have enough backing anymore. Dreamcast was a cult classic to hardcore gaming fans but it was really not super popular unfortunately and sadly google may alienate a lot of gamers if you think about it. Google is a very big company and can stand substantial losses should the system fail so there is a high chance they may not put thier full selves into it :/


thats why i really want a 3rd party that put everything they are into it and just hoped for the best

That is not true Google has never half-assed anything. I mean, the recent shit going on with the Youtube data, Google had to comply but it still fought for what was right and got them to make the data anonymous. That's a pretty awesome thing for a company to do, especially one that could withstand a shitload of people being very pissed off!

I mean we all know Google is pretty in-touch with all this stuff, so I really don't think they could botch a console development effort! The entire fucking staff is made of video-game generation college kids!

as right as you are look at what sony did? a huge company MAY get too full of themselves. While google is a genious everyone thought sony was top of their game and suddenly they may not even be in the running anymore

i would like to see the phantom come back. Like 5 years ago a slip on an e3 show mentioned that a new console by a 4th party development team that was not announced was to hit store shelves, but it fell out of the race. I'd like to see it come back honestly.

Maybe dude but you can't say Sony used to not half-ass stuff. Sony has a horrible track record with hardware failures.

i totally agree with you sega would be great maybe a dreamcast 2 O.o
but look at their rap sheet:

while thats all I can think of it may make non sega fans not like it

Also, Xbox Live (and I think the ps3 might eventually) does exactly what the Phantom promised to do: allow gamers to download games and play them on a console.

dont forget you can get the entire back-catalog of nintendo games on the wii
