Sega was fucking terrible at the console business and they're better off not bothering. They had like one or two good years with the Genesis but then they fucked it all up with one stupid financial flop after another (Sega CD, 32X, GameGear).

The genesis/megadrive was a good system, but Sega tried too much shit with it. I dunno if they were trying to keep up with SNES or whatever, but all of the add-ons to the Genesis were ridiculous. The Nomad was a very neat idea(I still have mine), but that thing drains batteries faster than anything I know.

I'd love to see them revive Sonic again.

But I'd hate to see another company get into the business, especially now. I'm pretty sure we don't need 4 consoles.

Then they hired Bernie Stolar to lead their American offices and he basically took a giant shit on the company. His incredibly retarded business practices (which basically involved refusing to allow any game that did well in Japan to be released in America for the Saturn and Dreamcast) then ran the company into the ground.

Oh I'm aware of how bad Sega is at the console business. I'm just saying there were a lot of things I liked about the Dreamcast so if Sega can pull something like that off again and not fuck it up, yeah, I'd be pretty excited.

I'd like to see a ToG WiiWare game, Chef.   Make it happen and I will buy it.

the console itself really doesn't matter. what exactly could a third party add that isn't already in the mix? i think you overestimate the power of a console if you think they can somehow revolutionize the industry just by making a new console (i am not sure if anyone is saying this in this topic, for the record!). games aren't magically going to get better and you're still going to get charged 5 bucks to download retro pac man games and HORSE ARMOUR. everyone is in this to make money and i don't think anyone who enters the console wars is going to do it for the "good of gamers".

you pretty much need to be a mega corporation to do this, and yeah, there are a few, but look at all the trouble microsoft went through to get any kind of return on their investment (keep in mind they may have not succeeded).

if a new company did come along i doubt they would do anything different than the rest of current players, so i am not too interested in this prospect.

i wasn't a fan of the VMU, but i agree with you in the sense there was probably some potential with it no one really figured out. the screen had a somewhat decent resolution, not anything major but you could display simple stuff (maybe 100x100 pixels). one neat thing, although very minor, was how in football games you could use the VMU to call plays when playing against a chum (typically you both would know what plays you are calling). i can't think of anything else, but i think there probably could have been a lot of neat things they could do with it.
