I own a NES, SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, N64, PSX, Saturn, Dreamcast, Gamecube, PS2, XBox, Gameboy, Gameboy Micro, DS, and a PSP.  The Saturn and the PSX are modded, the PSP has custom firmware, and I have a supercard for the DS.

I have over three hundred games for those systems (legit and burned, but not including roms) though maladroithim is right, I guess I clearly don't like video games!

yeah but how many of those games did you actually like/play? I mean pretty much every game before the PS2 was fairly linear, and you said you don't like linear games, and you said you don't like sandbox games, and there's a HUGE CACHE of genres you said you don't like, it sounds like you don't really like games all that much and are more into casual gamer market, which there's nothing wrong with (I play mostly casual games), but then people suggest more casual games and you're like "No I don't want to play a casual game on the console" I don't really get what you want.

Just so you know.... Assasin's Creed isn't very sandbox at all. Much of the game is in the same vein as Prince of Persia only you go about your buisness in big open playgrounds in the guise of towns instead of a straight path through caves/dungeons/castles. I know what it looks like though. A lot of people had that idea. It's primarily why it was hyped to death before it came out... and why it fizzled by a week after. Alot of people where disappointed by the linearity and the similarity to PoP..... but if you like that sort of thing... check it out.

Unreal Tournament 3 is a great game for the 360. However, if you want fancy modding and customization then the ps3 and pc versions are the best bet. Sigh.....stupid microsoft and their "no modding allowed" law :(
Edit: Oh, I see you don't like FPS games.... oh well :/

Two Thrones would probably be fun.  Also I enjoyed about 50% or so of the games I own for all those systems I listed.  I collected video games for a while so some of them I bought just to add to my collection.

I don't recall saying I don't want a linear game; that's actually more what I'm looking for.  Sandbox games are only as fun for as long as you can entertain yourself while playing one and I get bored easy if there's no clear goal.

Also, I was at Blockbuster today and picked up Kameo: Elements of Power.  It's pretty fun so far and I'll probably finish it before the weekend's over.

just because its quirky doesnt mean its not repetitive

I don't even own it and I've played it enough to get bored as shit of it, I can't play it again because it was THE SAME SHIT OVER AND OVER

also ize...I know I already told you to...

but assassin's creed....play it...

that or two thrones, which again, I am pretty sure I have said on irc :(

IM USELESS
well if you actually...you know, DO STUFF and explore dead rising can be really fun. and also i never said quirky = not repetitive? where do you get this because there's a period before i started talking about quirkyness!

plus i find it really funny that you criticize dead rising but advocate assassin's creed. assassin's creed got boring fast...it's an alright game and has an alright story but is boring:

leave city > ride horse for about 10 minutes > arrive at and sneak in town > eavesdrop/assassinate/grab flags/beat up someone > talk to guild > assassinate main guy > watch scenes > leave city > ride horse for about 10 minutes > etc. rinse and repeat

Yeah man, I used to just play Dead Rising up until like the Carlito dude starts shooting you up in the food court and stopped after that because I couldn't be bothered or something, and wanted to kill the zombies... then of course I ran out of time getting onto the next mission and I spent too much time taking survivors back and shit like that. Then I actually tried going through it and beating all the cases and had a SHITLOAD of fun. This sounds stupid but Dead Rising isn't ALL about KILL AS MANY ZOMBIES AS POSSIBLE (well it is...... but it's sort of... side to the cases? I dunno, like you can kill as many zombies as you want but IN A LIMITED TIME FRAME sorta) and once you get over that fact and start going through it can be really fun. .

Yeah, pretty off-topic, and a god damn horrible post that made little sense, but there you go.

Dark Sector should be added to the list, story telling ain't so great but it's a third person action game with lots of ways to decapitate your enemies with your Glaive, which is a big ninja star he holds in his hand.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet, but in addition to what everyone else has mentioned, pick up Fable II when it is released. The first one was good, albeit too short and small, but the second in the series seems to improve a lot on the original's shortcomings. You said you don't really like console RPGs anymore, but you did mention Mass Effect, since it certainly isn't a JRPG. Fable II isn't a JRPG either, and I can't say it is great since it hasn't been released, but it's certainly worth a look!

If you haven't checked it out already, you might wanna check out Lost Planet for the xbox 360. The only reason why I thought I'd recommend it is because I hate first person shooters, I absolutely loath them, but for what it was, being a third person shooter, I really liked the Syphon Filter series, even if the only reason was to use that EMP Tazer and watch all your victims burn to a slow fiery death.

In the case of Lost Planet, they seem to toss in enough variety in order to keep things interesting; you fight snow pirates as well as these monsters called the akrid  and you get to jump into these mech suits from time to time and each level ends with a crazy/frustrating boss fight. But overall It progresses in the same linear fashion as Syphon Filter did but with fewer check points.

One thing I thought that was neat about the game is if you toss a grenade and if you're good enough, you can shoot it immediately afterwards and it'll make this splash effect.

Not a lot of people like this game, so this might be right up your alley, who knows.
I could be over critical, but I think you could re-do the story to sound less boring and more interesting for people to read. It's like, a wall of boring events that nobody cares enough to read.
It would be better to strive for the 'essence' of what you are trying to depict, and not think in a practical or literal sense. Just think about the origin of what you want to direct what you want your audience to feel.

how stupid are you.

I'm playing through it now and its the same thing, nine times. its the picture of repetitiveness. luckily its a little bit of fun, but at this point I'm playing to see the conclusion to the horrible, horrible, story.

Yeah, Lost Planet sounds good.  And, as a bonus, my roommate just bought it.

Also, for the record, I'm not going to play Dead Rising or Assassin's Creed.  Sorry.

Yeah the ending makes the entire game worth it.

It is easily the most wtf ending out at the mo. Even moreso than Crysis'!!

man i just wonder like... what made them think it was a good idea to throw THE FUTURE into that?  it would've been an ACCEPTABLE story had they just left it in the past, but it really stops making sense once you make him a guy in the future with DNA MEMORY.  seriously it is so bad as to almost be funny, which makes me hope that maybe it was all a joke even though i know it wasn't.  but yeah AC is very very fun for like the first 3 missions and then progressively less and less interesting for the next 6 or 7.

Wasn't going to play it anyways!

I think I'm more interested in some upcoming games for the 360 (new PoP, Fallout 3, etc) so I'll probably end up checking those out too.  DS and psp are where it's at though.

You know I mentioned Fable II, I want to say that it's a shame that it is exclusive to the Xbox 360. I'd really love to play it on the PC.

To continue with HL.

Also, GoldenRatio, you learn that there is the future part of the game in the first... three seconds, it really is not a spoiler.

AND, I am going to third and double third the Condemned series.  The first game is just a plain horror thriller and is awesome.  The second was is more of a action horror thriller, but they expand the story and the hand to hand combat is some of the best I have seen in any game.
