In the US there was a boy whom was diagnosed with Leukemia (A form of cancer that is almost always terminal in form). He had been notified by his doctors that he would only have a few weeks to live and so his parents wanted to grant his last dying wish. The girl that he liked and was somewhat dating and broke up with weeks before reconcilled and at a laser tag event he proposed to her and they got married (not real married, but fake license and a whole wedding fiesta to boot).

It's a very sad story that I thought I would share, many people can see that even a child can have the same wants as a 30 year old wo/man.

If you want to discuss the topic feel free, but I was more posting this as a share.

Aw, poor little guy. That's a pretty sad story, but it has a nice side to it. I feel bad that he passed away (especially so young), but what they did for him really put a smile on my face.

I like how the article barely mentions the pretend-widow. I mean, really, this has got to leave a scar. Poor girl.

Taraka: "My word? I shall be happy to swear by anything you care to name--"
Sam: "A facility with oaths is not the most reassuring quality in a bargainer..."

Yeah I'm kind of concerned about the girl here... that is a pretty heavy thing to lay on a kid.

As sweet as this sounds, I agree with this being pretty dang hard on the girl.  It's hard enough for you to lose one of your friends, but I can't imagine losing your husband at that age, pretend or not.

Also, I feel kind of bad for even thinking about it, but do you think she sort of forced herself to like him more than she really did just because he was dying?  Like, just because she felt bad for him?  It said they were "special friends" (what the fuck) but broke up.  To me that sounds like "we aren't friends anymore", so it kind of feels like she was put up to it or in some other way felt pressured into it.

Yeah, that's what I said when someone was showing it at work today. It's nice for the boy- that he was able to die happy... (as nice as dying could be i suppose...), but that girl has to live with that pain her whole life. Hopefully she can still be stable from it all.

The picture was so sweet I could cry. :(

I honestly don't think the girl is going to be fucked up forever because she did something nice for someone and he died, guys. There is a good chance she understood that she was doing him a favour and is treating this situation like "this sucks I lost a friend!" and not "omg my husband is dead I can never love again :(".

I think she's going to be OK!

you're at your most impreessionable around that age and if you're brought up around things like "strong family morals", something like this can fuck you up.

Yeah, I'm sorry if it seems like I'm hopping on the bandwagon, but as soon as I saw the title I thought the same thing so shut the fuck up.

This is a fucked up thing to do to a little girl, pretend or not.

They didn't do this to the little girl, she decided to do it for the guy so he wouldn't be quite so unhappy when he DIED. Good on her, I say.

I don't know about you guys, but I'd be more affected by the regret I'd have over not saying yes to a request like this than the sorrow I'd feel over my decision to help a dying kid out.

Died a happy kid.

As 'impressionable' as the girl may be at that age, she's not going to be so screwed up by his death that she'll not look back at it when she's older and realize that she did a great thing. I'm not at all saying that she's just going to blow the whole thing off and NOT CARE. But it won't be as detrimental to her as we think. If anything, she'll have more respect for life.

See, leukemia isn't that bad after all.

That's pretty sad. I'm kinda with everyone in that I hope this doesn't screw her up though. I'm pretty sure it won't, but if her next husband dies early then uh that could be pretty bad. I'm glad she had the heart to go through with it though, that's a pretty great thing to do.
