Live video of them talking about it (exciting!!)

But there's no real articles about it right now. It's still going on right now, and that sucks. I can't think of much to say. Hope no members here are in it (or any family members).

That's a pretty big earthquake...

5.8 isn't actually very big. There's been no damage or injuries reported. Plus, the LA area gets earthquakes quite frequently. heh nice try

well not THAT frequently and 5.8 is totally noticeable, but yeah no damage or injuries so its not like SUPER BAD. 10 aftershocks too (3 of which were 3.8's) and thats pretty scary.

edit: 16 aftershocks as of 12:03 apparently

Reporter: Sir, can you tell us what you can see out the window?
Man: Well, it looks like people are going on about their day. There's a lot of people talking on their cell phones.
Reporter: Oh, of course. I would imagine.

nah, that's for WEIRD and DUMB news. This is fine where it is, it's just the OP didn't/doesn't seem to know that the quake was relatively tame.

haha CNN's main photo for the story is now SMOG COVERING THE CITY SKYLINE

oh cool we got someone who lives there! hey ric i'm guessing you've been through other earthquakes too? anything major?

well i mean i hadn't payed much attention to the news, i just posted it.

also, apparently looking up the richter scale doesn't help because it classifies high-end 5's as "damaging well-constructed buildings etc etc" so i thought it would actually hurt stuff! apparently not.

most of the time I'm asleep when earthquakes happen! I live pretty far away from where the sources are, so usually the effects aren't very severe.

Earlier on in the year we had an Earthquake in England (which is very uncommon), where I live was like... 20 miles from the epicenter. Though not as large as this one (though it could be felt more or less everywhere in England) the difference wasn't all that big. But most people didn't even notice it (late at night, sleeping), those that did just didn't care and went back to sleep.

No offence or anything, but anyone who was even bothered by an earthquake of this size (which is basically a little bit more than a loud fart) must be a real fucking pansy. Lets just hope someone doesn't slam your front door too hard and scare you to death because you confused it for the end of the world or something stupid like that!

hey guy just dropping in to let you know you're dumb, well cya

I think when the ground starts shaking people will react and assume that it will be bad. It's better to assume the worst and respond than it is to assume that nothing bad is happening in an actual emergency.

But hey good on you if you're such an internet badass

My grandma said that it felt like one hundred elephants pounding on her roof for thirty seconds.
