I just took a chance on buying this because I had some Microsoft points sitting around collecting DUST and I liked the sound of the time manipulation and stuff.

Boy am I glad I did! I'd say it's right up there with Cave Story as a fantastic indie game.

Graphically, it's beautiful. It's just nice to look at, sort of like Okami but in high def (lol videophile......) It just basically looks like a painting except animated. It runs perfectly smooth, never hitching, never stuttering. The audio is soothing and melodic, and the controls are tight and responsive.

The game can be tricky but it is also very forgiving. Why? Well, for the very feature that makes it so unique, it's time controlling powers. See, the very first time power you get is a simple rewind. And unlike most games that seem to squander something like this in a gimmicky fashion, Braid doesn't really limit you. Just by holding X, your character will move backwards and repeat your previous actions. This especially works to your advantage if you make a bad jump, fall on some spikes, get hit by an enemy, etc. You just hold X and watch it all reverse. It's the sort of challenge I guess I like. Getting through will require a lot of puzzle solving and some tricky platforming but you're not ridiculously penalized for mistakes and trial and error. It sort of reminds me a bit of Klonoa actually.

Even its story is more interesting than just DEFEAT EVIL DUDE or whatever but it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea. There's a bit of story to read via text from books before each world but it's a mixed bag. Some will consider it quality writing with insight into relationships, love, and maturity while others will write it off as hamfisted, pretentious, or pedantic. At any rate, it certainly fits with the game's overall atmosphere and theme and I don't think anyone could deny that it is at least DIFFERENT.

Anyway, Braid is only 1200 MS Points which is like 15 bucks so check out the demo and see if you like it.

I downloaded the trial of it yesterday but my friends came over right when the download finished so I never got to finish it.  I'll definitely try it out soon though, it looked really neat when I was reading about it (also apparently the official walkthrough tells you things like FIGURE IT OUT ON YOUR OWN IT'S MORE REWARDING)

I remember seeing this before and thought that it looked really neat. It sucks that it is only on the 360 though.

If it ever pops up as downloadable for the PS3, I'll be all over it.

Everyone seems to be bitching about how this is 1200 MS Points. Oh man 5 bucks more than other games, that's crazy @_@

This looks pretty fucking sweet, though. I don't quite dig the graphical style, but I've heard it plays well, so I'll probably get it in in the next few days. Anyone know how long it is?

I have been playing through this (got through the fourth world [there ][/there]), and my head is hurting a lot.  Especially that fourth world, it was just tough to get through portions of it, and some of the puzzle pieces I just cannot imagine how to get yet.  The art is beautiful also, and the game has some humour, yet sorrowful, emotions put into the monsters and levels and stuff.

I appreciate the fact that I get stuck on puzzles for so long but I can skip over them and come back later (and rewind until I get it right of course). difficulty without being frustrating is always nice. I bought it on impulse after playing about 15 minutes of the demo and I'd have to agree that it sits right up there with Cave Story. though I have trouble getting used to the jump physics because, well, I'm used to the jump physics of Cave Story.
Anyway... I played a bit of this... And I'm not so fond of the setting. I hate that whole ghetto "gangsta fo life" thing, and I've never been much of a baseball player.

yeah i mean there's stuff out there (like this supposedly) that are worth money/ms points but man

microsoft is still such a ripoff. there's so much shit on the marketplace that is ridiculously priced for Microsoft Points.

i'm thinking about checking it out. i found it funny however how the screen on the xbox dashboard is that BIG DARK FIRE thing and a lot of sites show that first...then you get to actual screens and most are HAPPY BRIGHT =]

is this the same game that only had a video of it (the game, it was shadowy like this) or something and the guy said the project was on hold because he didn't have a programmer or something to this effect? in other words did it actually work out or am i thinking of another game?

I bought (and beat -- it's not terribly long) this yesterday and I recommend it. Gameplay comparisons can be made to Portal (though of course nothing is as funny as Portal). You get to figure out what wacky things the rules of the game let you do. Each world introduces a slightly different set of rules so it doesn't ever get tedious. Some of the puzzles are downright devious. The art and music are both great.

I didn't think I was going to buy the game...that is until I played the trial.  I shelled out the money, and I'm somewhere in World 5 I think (though with plenty of stuff I haven't gotten in the previous levels).  I really like that this game doesn't make you want to quit when you get stuck, because you can just keep going.

Okay so I am following the walkthrough in that I am going to do it all myself, but there is a single question I have to ask:  is it possible to get all the pieces in order, or do you HAVE to skip some and come back?  I just want to know if I'm wasting my time on puzzles I can't solve yet.

Every piece can be gotten as soon as you get to the room where it is. You don't ever get new abilities later that you can take back with you to earlier levels. That said, don't get hung up in one place forever. They made it easy to open all the levels for a reason. They didn't want people getting frustrated and giving up.

That is all I needed to know.  I didn't think you'd be getting other abilities, but you never know!  But yeah, I wasn't really sticking to the early levels or anything, but I would frequently go back to them and still be stuck.  Still, I've had several puzzles just click in my head right a lot later so I'll just keep on trucking along then.

This got a 9.5 on Gamespot under Xbox 360 games. So I was expecting it to be this great nex-gen game that for some reason, I heard nothing about. It's still funny to see a 2D game getting editor's choice award. Only 2 other games for the 360 got that score: The Orange Box and Halo 3. So it's tied for second place, with GTA4 being the best rated (10) for the console. That alone made me want to try it out.

It is a bit of a shame that the basic game is pretty short, but solving every puzzle is another big challenge in and of itself. It'd also be sweet to see some downloadable content in the form of new worlds, plus a LEVEL EDITOR seems like an obvious choice for this sort of thing. Still, quality is ultimately much better than quantity!

Just finished the game with all puzzle pieces. It took me quite a few hours, like 4-5 I think. I haven't had this much playing a puzzle game for ages, I wish there were more games like this.

big thanx to dragonslayer for sig!
