I'm also interested in this but in terms of crap I can actually find at tag sales and clearance racks in video stores etc

nobody would ever have City of God to be honest, and if they did they wouldn't be selling it

Edit: Maybe I should just check out the LIBARY but I hate having to plan out that sort of thing

the original solaris in russian is probably THE russian film to see other than those made by Eisenstein

not everyone, but I'm just saying a lot of people are coming here and suggesting films that aren't really films that you NEED to see, but films that they like. Doesn't really seem to be the purpose of the topic.
yeah but like...

deciding what films need to be seen is still opinion... there's no movie you need to see, just movies that there is a universal opinion of it being a great movie to watch.

If you still haven't seen casablanca yet, I'd definitely reccomend it. One of the only black and white movies that I didn't feel like falling asleep while watching, alongside "Night of the Living Dead". Humphrey Bogart did an incredible job with his character, and the way the plot develops is interesting, unlike the long drawn out time wasting scenes that are in just about every other "classic" black and white film.
