Haah. Wrong with me? The fact that I'm probably going to be majoring somewhere along the lines of english (fuuuck), and McDonalds is looking to be a serious career pursuit. Don't mind me, I'm a nobody.

Anyways, do me a favor and link the laws of gravity with the laws of electricity/magnetism. That would be awesomesauce.

Also, I'll have a side of fries with that kthx.

Seriously though, what would you do with a PhD in physics? I think it'd be interesting to know whether or not I should care about AP PHYS. Lead a research team on our government's total lack of funding? Stay at your university and become a professor?

:shrugs: if i do my phd on astrophysics i would be confined to academia. i could always do a phd on engineering  if i change my mind, or i could do something really aplicable to industry like biophysics. its not like i am hasty of getting rich; grad school for science majors is pretty much free (well it isnt because grad schools are the sweatshops of scientists so you are exploited a lot and get paid worse than a janitor but still you wont pay for grad school)

I'm considering going back to school and get a master's paid for by joining the peace corps. Environmental engineering/hydrology is hot right now and there's jobs all over the world for that stuff.

if you are a science major you probably dont have to join the peace corps. most of physics folk just get exploited as TAs. perhaps its different for hippie enviromental science though.

I'd much rather join the peace corps though. Teaching a bunch of american college brats organic chemistry is not appealing to me at all. I'd rather help people get clean water for a couple years.

HOLY SHIT WHAT.

Yeah, I was thinking of joining the peace corps anyway, but talk about killing two birds with one stone! How does this work out? Does the Peace Corps have to be affiliated with your college/grad school or do they send a check anyplace you decide to go?

A friend of mine's sister is majoring in Developmental Policy, so she transferred to Ghana and goes to school there. Just a thought, I bet the peace corps could really use someone who knows that information.

But anyway, that sounds pretty badass. Not that it would be particularly useful to me, since I'll probably turn out to be a CORPORATE LAWYER and screw over the common man, but at least I'll have a guilty conscience when doing so.

hey man that isnt a bad idea.

the average salary for a tenured professor in physics is usually 6+ figures

Well, as long as we make some more progress in alternative energy, I'm all for Prof Marmot.

well not really, I mean I have (well, had to be honest but it grows back in 2 days) a beard, like a REAL beard already and I think long hair is really gay, so no thanks on that one.

+ I have like 0 interest in the networking shit its just so tedious and the System Dev. is just like really stupid but programming and unix are pretty nice I'd say. Even if its programming basics for like the 3rd time already but hey why make classes that advance in the subject when you can stay in the good ol' true and tested ones.

peacecorps.gov has a list of schools affiliated with the program. The basic gist is that you have to get accepted into a masters program and then your peace corps service will count as some sort of credit and you're usually expected to develop your thesis while you're doing work over there for two years. Usually your tuition gets waived and you're given a living stipend to finish off the two years of schooling required for your masters program.

Not a bad idea if you're interested in studying and doing useful stuff, not so great for people who don't really plan on doing anything productive with their lives.

and they tend to send you wherever you have skills, obviously if you speak russian, english and german they're not going to send you to angola (though I think the point of the PeaceCorps originally was to send you somewhere random because you werent supposed to be comfortable... the amount of people enlisting in the PC has dropped since the 60s lol)

1.) Spanish 7
2.) AP Calc BC
3.) AP Physics: Electricity and Magnetism
4.) AP Gov
5.) Orchestra
6.) AP English Lit.

Yeah, the reason why I take these APs is because I can't stand the other classes. Mainly, I can't stand the students in them. They're pretty stupid, and besides, my friends are in the APs, so whatevs. Whether or not I get college credit for these classes, I don't care. Besides, my friend happened to use them to replace an entire year of work. That's a nice plus.
yeah the ap english literature exam should be fun haha.

what books/poems/etc. does your teacher have you reading this year?

Due to the fact that my community college is unorganized as crap, I'm unable to be 100% on the times and days of these thing so I guess they are subject to change. This is just what my schedule looks like so far based on what it seems.

*Whoops made an error. I don't have chemistry on friday. But yeah. It's pretty annoying that Friday is the only day I can go home semi-early.

Fun? Shit.

Actually, I'm pretty happy about this year's lineup for books. Started off on Wuthering Heights and a few others, but I'm really looking forward to Heart of Darkness by Conrad and Metamorphosis by Kafka. The only thing I don't like about the course is that she also dictates what you read independently. That book list isn't bad -- I'm reading good ol' Gulliver's Travels for now, but I'd much rather read something less...thick. Ah well.
