Haha yeah I read about this guy one afternoon at work. It's crazy (sometimes awful) stuff but the stories are so good. I've not even heard his music yet, but I know Faith No More have covered "I Wanna Fuck Myself" (which I've also not heard).

yeah i heard about this guy a long time ago and i watched that jerry springer video. he's just a dangerous nutter, i don't like him at all. the story of his party funeral is nice though - i mean, without all the faeces.

haha yeah one of my best friends was really into punk music and punk culture when he was in middle school and he always thought gg allin was such a hardass (and I was into black metal and shit at the time so I thought the stage defecation and self-mutilation was fuckin sweeeeeet)

Well, he was a pretty massive douchebag and his music sucked, but I still think there's something weirdly touching about the guy's story. Or not even touching, really, but... If you look at guys like Iggy Pop or David Yow or even Marilyn Manson then they all seem to have recognised on some level that the whole rock'n'roll rebellion thing or whatever is kinda dumb and have been able to seperate their onstage personas from real life. And even the fans are generally aware that it's a bit of a put-on unless they're really dumb and seriously think that their favorite metal musicians really are murderous suicidal satanists or whatever. So yeah, I don't really know much about him but I kinda got the impression that GG Allin wasn't so much a rabidly insane psycho but more like a pretty dumb guy who never really made the distinction between the fantasy and the reality of that whole transgressive image of punk music. It's kinda like that one Norwegian Black Metal dude who killed his bandmate or whatever, it's always a surprise to hear about people actually doing stuff like that because I think pretty much everyone has learned to take violent lyrics or whatever with a hefty grain of salt.
So yeah, while I think he was a shithead I still kinda feel bad for the guy to the extent that he was kind of the musical equivalent of those kids who jump off roofs with plastic superman capes in the belief that they can fly.

I think this guy is an abomination, but I guess the kind of mindless idiots that go to slayer concerts and such would really be into this seeing as how they really only respond to basic emotions like anger and brutality because they are so fucking stupid.


I know I'm generalizing pretty badly but I hate hardcore metal heads and punks so much, if you watch the videos of his show you can see them in some blank staring-brain meltdown trance and slinging their heads from side to side I'd have to say any idiot that goes to that sort of thing and interacts with that guy is asking for it.

Not that I'm saying those girls were asking for rape but you've got to be pretty fucking stupid to hang around someone as mentally unstable like that and not expect something really fucked up to happen.

the whole thing is, you can see it's not just shock tactics, it is he life, it's absolutely grotesque what he did, and how casual he is about things like rape and murder.
Just listen to him speak makes me think of californian Nazi punk, it's really primitive and animalistic and just totally self absorbed, following that lovely strain of social darwinism. The kinda thing disenfranchised kids have a habbit of latching onto because they're easily suggestable and don't really get what's going on.

I think he's a terribly fucked up human being but I'll be damned if he isn't interesting.

Also I think of this every time I hear his music now. Apparently quite a few fans have done this (the pissing on his grave thing).

That Jerry Springer clip seems great so I'll have to make some time and watch the whole thing!
