Hey guys, I just have a couple of quick questions about the DS homebrew scene. I already got myself a CycloDS and I'm very well acquainted with it; I just wanna know what else I can do it. I put Moonshell on there for music/movies/images/text and of course there are DS roms on there too. In terms of emulators, I've got Snemulds or whatever it is for SNES and JenesisDS for Genesis. So here are my questions:

1) Is there a more decent SNES emulator out there? SnemulDS works fine for some games but is absolutely horrible for others.

2) For anyone with experience with JenesisDS, is there a way to prevent the screen getting cut off? I miss about 10-20 pixels on the left and right.

3) What other cool emulators are there out there?

4) Can I run GBA roms from my CycloDS? I read somewhere that people are saying I need a slot 2 device, but I'm not too sure on how all that works.

4) What other COOL SHIT can I put on my DS? This extends to anything.

Thanks guys!

The reason I myself got one of those thingies to play homebrew was ScummVM DS, the emulator that let you play old adventure games. I haven't really done much else with my DS card but if someone knows of a good SNES emulator I wouldn't mind either...

I've already got Scumm going on two PCs at home and the Wii I think (can't remember if my brother put it in). :) Is the DS port any good?

I'm rather new to the homebrew scene as well, but I suppose I could help.

1) Is there a more decent SNES emulator out there? SnemulDS works fine for some games but is absolutely horrible for others.

Not that I have seen, I've tried several SNES emulators, but all of them were shit on the games I played.

3) What other cool emulators are there out there?

I'm not entirely sure, but I think I remembered seeing a n64 one. I could be completely wrong though. I also saw something that emulated Doom, and Quake etc.

4) Can I run GBA roms from my CycloDS? I read somewhere that people are saying I need a slot 2 device, but I'm not too sure on how all that works.

I have not found out about this yet, I want to know this also.

5) What other COOL SHIT can I put on my DS? This extends to anything.

If you're into reading eBooks on the go, download something like DSReader. I use it myself, it's pretty great. As far as I know there's also a comic book reader, but I haven't tried it yet.  Oh, and if you like Portal, download Still Alive DS. That shits great.

Here's a couple of links to lists of programs:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nintendo_DS_homebrew   There's some great stuff on here. Media players and whatnot, also programs like Photoshop etc. There's also a VoIP homebrew app that I want to try, but I haven't yet.

http://www.dsfanboy.com/category/homebrew/ I've only recently been visiting this, but it's pretty great. Updates all the time with new news of homebrew apps and games. (Btw, check out the Shaving Derby game, it's hilarious as fuck)

It's not better than the PC version and it has a bit of an annoying scroll (because the DS's resolution is strange). But it works well enough and if you want to get an adventure game fix on the road it's probab... well I hear the PSP ScummVM is better... (Though I don't own a PSP and I can't see how the PSP can have a better mouse than the DS! Point 'n Click was never so point'nclicky)

1) snesDS was also ok for some games I think, but overall SNES emulation is pretty unsatisfactory right now.

2) You can reposition the screen left/right but I don't think you can scale it horizontally.

3) Well, NES emulation is pretty much flawless :D (nesDS)
And N64 emulation is pretty unlikely @ Dr Ears

4) Yes, no slot-1 device can run GBA  roms and due to technical limitations I'm pretty sure they never will.

4) I don't know, at first I was interested, but then I never did find much that was useful to me.
fuck it all, dd is dead

Yeah, I wasn't sure if I remembered correctly when I said N64 emulation. Oh well. There are some pretty good homebrew apps for DS, I've been playing Doom for the last ten minutes. It's great.

@crumply: Apparently they have! I'm having trouble running it but that's because it needs to be in the root directory or something, and I like my stuff organised in nice folder structures. *sigh*

i have an R4DS cart for my DS and it's awesome. i have a ton of cool stuff on it. you should go to ds-scene.net and check out the programs and stuff there. ones that i would recommend are DSOrganize. DS Download Station, Colors... uh, i cant remember the other ones right now, but maybe i'll check my list on my DS and get back to you. :P anyways, i have a lot of DS roms on it too, such as The World Ends With You and Final Fantasy IV, which are good games. i'm going to buy a GBA flash cart soon because i want to be able to play the translated Mother 3 on my DS when it comes out in a few months (which, by the way, is the BEST GAME EVER. seriously. i played it in japanese with a translation guide and it was still the best game i have ever played. if you're getting a GBA flash cart, make sure you play Mother 3). as for snes emulation, i haven't found anything that works at all for me. :< i don't know, maybe i'm just organizing the folders wrong or something, but SNemulDS and zSNESDS both don't work on mine.
semper games.
