I've known what I want to do for about a year, and I'm only 17. Most people at my school have no clue what to with their lives, so they just drop out, become a builder or get into some trade and then regret it later on.

I want to be involved in animation in some shape or form, whether it be game design (I really want to model/animate for a game studio) or movies. I also want to get into post production and special effects in movies and stuff. Both animation and post production is like a fast track to working at WETA (basically my dream job, and one of the best places in NZ for my chosen career) I love animation and making/editing movies so that would be my main career.

I also love writing, so being an author (even if it's only one or two books) would be fuckin' awesome.

I have the next 5 or so years of my life planned in terms of my education and career, so  :fogetbackflip:

I want to be an anthropologist with a focus on the tribal peoples Middle East and Central Asia, but much more the latter than the former. Linguistics could also be a big part of this, but there are thousands of known archaeological sites across Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Xinjiang that have not been excavated at all so yeah, not like entering a field such as Biblical Archaeology or African tribal shit that has been pedantically documented. I want to do something that is... somewhat uncharted territory, and since that crosses pretty well with what my interests already are I think what I want to do is pretty well suited for me.

I'd also like to be a professional musician but the likelihood of that is so slim

I'm already in my lifelong career as an offshore Instrument technician. Why? Money and over half the year off work. :D

painter/artist is what I'm studying for, and it what I really really want to do, maybe comic art, I dunno maybe concept art. Failing that music, in some psychedelic band or flipping out some insane drones or some shit. Normal jobs are just bullshit, I'll never do one of them full time.

I must've mentioned this a bazillion times in the forums, but I want to be a lawyer. I couldn't deal with criminal law though, y'know, hardcore CSI bullshit -- that sounds stressful. I talked to my Speech/Debate coach, who happens to be a NY state supreme court justice, and he pretty much confirmed my suspicions (I bet he has to oversee really shitty cases). I'd rather work civil court, or maybe go corporate.

In the meantime, I don't know what to do with myself, or even what to major in. I'd like to pursue music composition, drawing, and perhaps a little hardware hacking as a hobby, because I really can't see myself doing any of that professionally (seeing as how I'ma have my ass kicked in AP Physics: Electricity and Magnetism this year). That only leaves me with writing, which I am marginally good at (I'm sure a few here would disagree), but the thing is I don't want to be stuck with another bullshit job liek journalism *ugh* or something along those lines.

If this don't pan out, I'll prolly end up being an interpreter for the deaf. I can sign pretty well already (deaf girlfriend), and they make like $60 bucks an hour, although I wouldn't charge that much because I probably wouldn't think it right (Hello -- mooching offa deaf people? I'm not THAT much of a total WHORE).

Anyways,

S'rite, bitches, Phoenix Smith here, out to own your ass in civil court -- and a fine proponent of the ADA at that.

EDIT: By the way Captain Mew. My dad majored in psychology. D'you knowwhat he does now? He works in a hospital, baking surgical equipment. I tell ya man, stick with the schooling for that shit, otherwise 4 years of college will be horribly wasted. Yeah, my dad wanted to help people too. But he couldn't take not having to say "okay man, here it is plain and simple: you're a fucking dumbass and you need to change." In other words, I don't think he could stand being a bastard parasite slowly sucking away his client's $$$. He actually wanted to help people. Well, just throwing that out there.

How did you hook up with a deaf girl? I hope it's not a "In the Company of Men" thing!

Oh jesus no, nothing like that.

Also, internet.

EDIT: I smell the smoke already. No, before you push the OMFG FLAME button guys, she goes to a nearby school. srsly, it's nothing. Look, the Browning poets eloped through mail back in the 1800s. This is practically the same, right? Right?

He got a job as a psychiatrist/psychologist and then quit or did he quit before he started? Just curious to know.

The details on that are actually pretty iffy. I'll ask him sometime, but I'm sure he got an internship during college or something like that.

I would love to be a professional poker player.  If you are good enough, you make make a ton of money and playing something you love would be a great plus.
Nothing beat the classic arcade games from the 80's.

I want to be a music theory professor because I really do love music theory a lot and professor seems like precisely the job I want to have.  I am on track to achieve this goal.  Otherwise a mundane desk job with the park service would be excellent (I am on track for this as well).  Also I would not mind being a video games journalist (I think anybody could be considered on track for this considering the low standards of journalism in the field although it is better than sports journalism).

comic book artist full time.  sitting around drawing all day on my time and talking to fans at cons year round FUCK YEAH.  i envy fat fucks like kurtz and that dickweed tim fuckley.

as soon as i get out the navy i'll have enough money saved to start my own publishing business.  there's a couple of really good unknown and unpublished artists i'd like to approach.
