I got the game off a store that broke street date and I must say, it's awesome!

Even without the ability to create your own stuff, the game is pretty fun. It's a simple platformer at heart, but the realistic physics engine adds a lot to the experience. A lot of effort has been put into level design too, there are many moments where I thought "wow, that's a neat idea/puzzle!". Gameplay gets harder fast (I suck at games), and the controls are a bit weird, but the game is definitely worth its price. I liked the multiplayer mode with my brother (can't try it online until the official release date), especially with the special areas designed for player cooperation, and I loved how there are tons of bonus items to miss (on average I beat levels with 50% items collected the first time). It's by no mean a game to make people buy a PS3 or change the way we think about video games, but it's a great game to add to PS3's poor library.

Creating your own levels is time consuming and not as intuitive as it sounds. The interface is simple, and there are some advanced tools to create more complex levels (think literal RPG Maker switches and really simple conditional branches), but you'll quickly hit the limit and have people trying to go beyond them like that calculator demo (man, that must've taken forever). I guess it'll be nice to have access to user generated levels when they're available, even if you don't make your own. One cool thing is that you can set some rewards using items you created (say you created a car), and then other players will get this item once they beat the level. You can choose to disallow other people from sharing your items with others, thereby forcing everyone to play your level to get a particular item (e.g. someone made a working Metal Gear REX).

So far I enjoyed creating weird contraptions more than creating actual levels. For example, I made a simple device that throws an infinite number of gigantic fish with wheels and a rocket engine in random directions, and soon enough the entire level was a pyramid of huge rocket-propelled fish on wheels bouncing around and squeezing each other, causing the PS3 to lag a bit. It doesn't sound as cool in words, but it was pretty fun... creating something and playing with the physics engine.

But yeah, it's a fun game. I wouldn't give it 10/10, but it's still one of the best games I've played in a while, and everyone should give it a try.

Edit: I'd also like to mention that there are some bugs in the game. I thought it was only my copy but my friend and some beta forum posts confirmed it. Sometimes the game just freezes and you're forced to restart, the PS button almost never works for me (freezes), and it's possible to get stuck without being able to do anything but restart the game (even with the teleport-to-last-checkpoint) option). It's not really frequent but I guess they didn't fix all of the beta bugs.

well dude castlevania is a clearly made up story about killing vampires with crosses, so including god in your plots or whatever isn't so weird (doesn't assassin's creed have you KILLIN MUSSELMAN?)

it's a little worse to violate a religious creed just to stick in a subliminal ISLAMS KILL DUDES message. not that I believe they did it on purpose (Sony doing anything of importance tends to be a happy accident these days) but yeah I can see where a complaint would come from.

Except people aren't complaining because they're offended by the subliminal messages (I don't think they've reached that conclusion yet), they're mostly upset because music + Quran is an unholy combination in mainstream Islam. I do find it a bit weird that they didn't check the lyrics of the track they used in a very family friendly game like this one. They should have just patched the game when it's released, even the people who complained didn't see this coming.

man i'd be angrier that sony chose some pretty violent quotes from my religious text rather than quoting it at all.

Will the new copy have a sticker on it saying "Rated M: For Muslim"?

I feel like drawing a provocative cartoon or something.

Has anyone seen this by the way? I think it floated around IRC a few hours ago.

It's like one of the oddest videos I've watched ever, and I still haven't got any idea how to react to it.

I don't know that seems more like something a nerd who wanted to ask a woman out to prom or a dance or something would do. But marry? That's kinda odd. Then again, people get married on WoW so I guess it's not that bad.

Yeah, that's not as bad as some of the things I've seen.
Saw someone get married on Furcadia way back... That's just sad.

They used to hold actual wedding ceremonies over Final Fantasy 11 for virtual marriages.  I don't know what's worse; real marriage over the internet or virtual marriage over the internet that you actually roleplay as a real marriage.

I'd say the second one. But it's a different texture of shit in the same sesspool. Marriage online is retarded.

Looks like sony updated their EULA before LBP comes out. Not only does Sony have to right to refuse or remove custom content, but they can now publish or sell it without your consent, and without paying a dime to you. Don't try to sell it yourself, you can't do that either.

"You authorize us, our affiliated companies and other PSN users, to use, distribute, copy, modify, display, and publish your User Material throughout PSN and other associated services. You also authorize us and our affiliated companies, without payment to you, to license, sell and otherwise commercially exploit your User Material (for example, selling subscriptions to access User Material and/or receiving advertising revenue related to User Material), and to use your User Material in the promotion of PlayStation products and services. You must not commercially exploit User Material without our consent."

This isn't surprising considering how awful their music EULA is.

After thinking about the whole Muslim thing I'd probably be pissed too.  It's easy coming from someone who isn't Muslim to think they're being oversensitive but really it's you who's being insensitive.  It's kind of an odd balance trying to be respectful of other people's feelings and tolerating people who splash blood on you because you eat a cheeseburger but when you're dealing with something like sacred religious text it has absolutely no place in a game about dolls riding on skateboards and collecting arbitrary items.

Is this an actual quote because I doubt they'd use a word like EXPLOIT in a EULA.  This isn't anything surprising as Sony technically owns the game and you're just using their tools to create something.  Capcom published level packs from Mega Man Powered Up and gaming magazines would often collect things like Half-Life mods.  I highly doubt Sony will pull anyone's level and make it downloadable content with their name removed but yeah you can't do shit to stop them from packaging it together in a GREATEST LEVEL PAK and charging 20$ for it.

Nah, it seems that wording is just an exaggeration.

The actual EULA is more like:

Quote
In addition, you will have the option to post, stream or transmit content such as pictures, photographs, game related materials, or other information through PSN to share with others ("User Material"), provided no rights of others are violated. To the extent permitted by law, You authorize and license SCEA a royalty free and perpetual right to use, distribute, copy, modify, display, and publish your User Material for any reason without any restrictions or payments to you or any third parties. You further agree that SCEA may sublicense its rights to any third party, including its affiliates and subsidiaries. You hereby waive all claims, including any moral rights, against SCEA, its affiliates and subsidiaries for SCEA or any other third party's use of User Material to the extent permitted by applicable law. By posting, streaming, or transmitting any User Material, you represent and warrant that you have the appropriate rights to use, post, distribute, and transmit the User Material and to grant SCEA the foregoing license. You further agree to cooperate with SCEA in resolving any dispute that may arise from your Information or User Material. SCEA reserves the right to remove any Information or User Material at its sole discretion.

It's not really that surprising, many websites have similar policies on content you post. I'm not saying it's right, but they probably added that to protect themselves in case they use user levels to advertise the games or something like what Marcus mentioned.

It's an exaggeration and it's just there to protect themselves like RPG said above me.

A lot of EULA's have horrible things in them, every MMORPG in existence has clauses saying they can remove your account for any reason without refund. Blizzard could ban every account that has a character with the letter "E" in it, and you couldn't do nothing about it. Granted, they won't ever use it that way, but they could and you couldn't do jackshit. It's not very likely Sony would use anything for bad, and in fact just use it to remove bad content, or to make good content look more noticeable, etc. Sony isn't that dumb.

I don't think.

cue 300 people screaming about free speech and not understanding what it means.
Its ironic you should say this. Because in response to this one of the leaders of the islamic community criticised the recall citing that they believe in freedom of speech and it would be hypocritical to refuse that priveledge to other people. He and many others stated they did not find it offensive in the first place either. In response to this Sony said they were taking precautions to play it safe.

I know there was an article about this somewhere but I can't find it.

Is this game out yet? I saw some levels on YouTube and I am thoroughly impressed. I might actually buy a PS3 for this!
