Ah yes, the little classic revival project Capcom secretly brought forth following an announcements some months ago.  Originally announced with regards to Wii's WiiWare download service, MM9 is actually a multiplatform download title which is up this week for Wii and PS3 and will be on XBL come next week.  It's definitely a nostalgic throwback to classic Megaman games, very challenging, nice stage design in most of the boss maps and the music is just as catchy as ever. (can't get Splash Woman's stage theme out of my head)  So yeah, the classic MM gameplay is intact though MM himself is a bit limited compared to the more recent entries prior to MM9 but it's nothing some quick hands on time will fix.

The game also boasts a few options like Time Attack and an "Endless" mode where you simply go as far as you can on an endless map before you die and are scored on it.  Your rankings in the game can also be uploaded to compare against the top players in the world.  Also the game will boast periodically delivered downloadable content  that does come with a small price.  For instance, I believe Protoman goes up next week for about 200 Wii Points.  The game also has an achievement system of sorts based on accomplishments completed throughout the game.  Some involve killing a certain amount of enemies or beating the game with nothing but the Mega Buster.  There is a list of all the achievements as well as the incoming DLC in the game's manual.

So yeah, with all of that out of the way, this game kind of kicked me in the teeth a few times as I found myself getting owned by one boss after another.  Since then, I've managed to take out two of them but some of the others are just downright brutal.  They have predictable attack patterns, but they just manage to get you in a tight spot and just beat you down.  Still, it's a fun game overall, anyone else manage to pick it up yet?

Megaman 1 was harder.

Still a good game though.

I really really want this, but, alas, I do not have any of the new systems.

Game looks amazing though, and I've heard a lot of good things about it.

I have to say this game kicked my expectations in the balls.  I was expecting some cheap rushed rom hack quality game but it really is well done.  Probably the best level design out of any MegaMan game IMO.

My chief complaint is the difficulty (or lack thereof).  For a project advertised as containing "oldschool difficulty" it can be completed quite easily even by newcomers to the series.

Back to the classic 8-bit NES insanity of MegaMan, very interesting... I have Wii, but I don't have the proper Internet connection to access Wii Shop so I'll have to bring my console to my relative's and download it.

It's coming out next week in XBL in Europe I think. I'll definitely buy it then.

Been really looking forward to this. I'll be nabbing it off of the Playstation Store when I get home from work today, along with Wipeout HD.

Gonna buy this today, most likely.

And UPRC, we should try Wipeout online.

I'd be up for it, but I can't be online with the computer and PS3 at the same time, since I use the same cable for both. But yeah, if it can be arranged then bring it on. I've always been a huge Wipeout fan.

If you have any other alternative I highly suggest NOT getting the PS3 version.  I don't know why, but the colors on the PS3 version are muddy, unsaturated, and they upscaled the viewing window and stretched it vertically.  The palette resembles the original NES more than the Wii or 360 version but god dammit it looks ugly.  The other versions are more like homages while the PS3 version looks like it was ported from the actual NES.

Don't ask me why they upscaled or stretched the window either.

No choice for me, all I have is the PS3.

As long as the gaming experience is untouched, I'm fine with it.

Get a router? :(
Or if get an additional ethernet card to your computer (if you don't got already 2), and use your PC as a bride for PS3's connection (both are cheap alternatives).

I just did a google search to see if I could find two screenshots to compare, but I couldn't find any that looked radically different. Could you post comparison pictures, by any chance? I want to see this.

Rajew, I've played it on my PS3 and a widescreen TV, and it looks just fine. I'm not sure what Marcus is going on about.

But damn.. This game is tough, but it might just be because it's a brand new Mega Man experience. I've only taken down Splash Woman so far, after about 10 attempts on her.

For me, it was pretty brutal until I got Plug Man's power just because there are a few stages with some really annoying enemies in precarious places.  Otherwise you're right that it doesn't retain the "old school difficulty" in direct comparison to the older games.  Still, it's pretty challenging and I'm pretty impressed with how faithful they've retained the game's style in this one.  My bro blew through about four of the bosses while I was at work so we've got Tornado man left.

I only have the Wii version and no screenshot I've seen so far shows the game in it's native resolution on both systems.  I'm just going by what I've seen on my friend's tv and we both have the exact same models and s-video cables.

DS got it for PS3 and it looks just fine, nothing wrong with the picture, at least from what I saw quickly.

Yeah, it looks absolutely fine.

Anyone know who I should tackle after Splash Woman? Man.. This game is definitely pretty tough. I don't remember Mega Man 2 giving me a hard time like this game is, haha.

Who have you beaten thus far?  I personally went after Concrete Man following Splash Woman and beat him.
