Speaking of Duke Nukem being sexist as shit I remembered I when I use to play it (I was like 13 at the time I think) there would be these girls that were encased in some green alien shit and when you walked up to them and hit the enter button they'd say "kill me" and you could shoot them into a fine red mist.

i didn't think of this, cos the only james bond i've seen was that last one. so maybe you are right and they are intending to make fun of james bond with that line there, i mean i dunno if they are but even if so then it's still just kind of stupid and doesn't make sense as a joke. cos as far as i know there's never been a spin off james bond film starring one of his girlfriends as a superhero. actually it doesn't make any sense at all to think that's a james bond reference, even if it is intended to be one.

i don't really have any else to back up what i said other than what's already there, but if the humour itself was actually smart and not dumb, obvious and hacknyed then i'd probably be willing to accept that the women stuff and the tough guy crap was purely satire, but i think it's probably closer to a gamesmasterjasper gaming parody than any kind of indictment of the crap that has been going into games since forever. maybe what i said about this influencing little idiots was a bit pointless because who cares, they'll turn out how they turn out regardless - that's just a personal unpleasantness. discounting that though, i still don't see any reason to think this thing is anything more than indulgent crap and there are better things out there to try. i don't like this attitude of WELL WHAT DO YA EXPECT A MASTERPIECE? JEEZ MR HARD TO PLEASE. maybe i do expect a little more than what gets pumped out, and so should everybody. i mean they are getting something out of this, it's not like this is whole deal is a charity i don't have to be grateful for crumbs.

I remember I was pretty young when I saw my first James Bond movie and I didn't know why each movie ends with him kissing the girl and then in the next movie he has some new love interest. I think I thought it was like a "happily ever after" sort of thing and therefore each successive Bond film was in an alternate universe

So yeah, third person shooter like Gears of War! The interviews seem to clear up a bit about the intent and such behind it, and the prep into making it, kinda pumped for gameplay footage now especially. The model of Matt in the trailer looks really good, and hopefully it'll look good without being gaudy as shit like the current gen games are. (it ain'tg ood if i can't see light reflecting off the darkness...needs more bloom...)

the idea that they are going for classic gaming design is really neat especially since they are parodying classic gaming stuff. stuff like that should pair up nicely with the high octane modern action they are shooting for and since they got the same guy who won the first WGA videogame writing award doing this, i'm sure it'll be at least as funny as dead head fred was.

also they said the marketing style and such (like the joke website, etc) will definitely be around in the game too so that should be great.

aaaactually i'm not sure, that seemed like a satire of the stupid sexy russian chicks that always pop up in spy games with strong male leads.  like the joke is not LOL HIS DICK ISBIG so much as it is that those games are really dumb and cliche-ridden.  not sure about the lara croft thing since that was dumb/immature but i suppose it also could've been a satire of chauvinistic male characters.

the entire point of the game it is parodying garbage or garbage type characters, stuff that has been rather harmful to the industry (a bunch of sequels that wind up getting hyped more than a creative game and winds up preventing creative games from making much ground in the industry), and just being satire of all the worst parts of the industry and saying "THIS SUCKS REALLY BAD" while trying to put a touch of humor to it.

so no, i'd say it's rather good marketing! it's a game about parodying and being satire on the worst stuff in the industry, sequelitis, movies based on games, selling out onto stuff like MARIO KART type games, and a stance on why these things and why some character types (like duke nukem and james bond type characters) are really bad, and even if the trailer isn't funny to some people if you get that much at least it's rather easy to see all that coming through in the trailer.

but i know how this goes, a lot of people seem to think Matt Hazard is a real game character before this or have "never heard of him until now", so...

I should message my best bud on MSN tonight after work and say "Oh man, there's a new Matt Hazard game coming out!" And then show him the trailer. Heh..

I like this game's concept.  It reminds me of those parody RPGMaker games that a lot of people made (one or two of them were okay).

This looks pretty good, but the gameplay doesn't look very polished. Not gonna be the fps(or tps) of the year.

But really good jabs at other games and shit.
