If nothing else, even for a parody game the premise sounds inventive... the developers of the game itself trying to kill off the main character and such. Some of the alpha reviews also mentioned "breaking the game" as part of the gameplay itself. Makes me wonder if it just breaks the 4th wall all over the place, or perhaps if you exploit purposeful glitches or something.

Either way, I suspect this one will appeal more to the older gaming audience, who'll pick up on the game references... Goldeneye, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Mario Kart, and Alien Syndrome to name a few.

Loving the Wolfenstein reference here too: (Taken from this site)

Also, the tune that plays in the background of This Webpage is basically an overture made of tons of Amiga and Commodore era chiptunes, and early 90's game music. I recognize more than a few of them, though I can't place them all. Maybe they're all games it's referencing?
If no one went off on tangents, we'd keep going in circles.

This is going to rock. Dead Head Fred was a great game too. This reminds me of low-brow Monkey Island, Duke Nukem, Leisure Suit Larry and other games mixed up.

yeah, actually that was a pretty awesome idea for a boss.
It reminds me of the RPG boss from Kirby Super Star.

the jRPG segment was pretty bad. i thought the casino trailer was better though.

idk the game looks an alright shooter at best and i know it's intentional bad acting but the main voice actor killed all the jokes.

That’s right, you have the young gaming with the old(er), white people gaming with black people, men and women, Asian countries gaming with the EU, North Americans gaming with South Americans. Much like world sporting events like the Wolrd Cup, or the Olympics will bring together different nations in friendly competition, (note the recent Asian Cup; Iraq vs. Saudi Arabia, no violence there) we come together. The differences being, we are not divided by our nationalities and we do it 24-7, and on a personal level.

We are a community without borders and without colours, the spirit and diversity of the gaming community is one that should be looked up to, a spirit and diversity other groups should strive toward.

PENULTIMATE IMAGINATION, I don't know man, that's pretty funny.

It reminds me of the RPG boss from Kirby Super Star.

My thoughts exactly.

man why can't you guys just like a game

really if you don't like this I don't see you liking any game ever

Edit: at the very least I'd hope this game turned out to be good

I do agree though that's it's a little too like movies/TV shows where they make reference to Google and Youtube because omg it's the internet, and it definitely seems like internety humor but it's still well-done imo

I'm sure there'll be lots of subtle jokes in there too I mean it's just a trailer of course it's going to focus on the brick to the head jokes and not the little touches

Also I didn't like Matt Hazard's design at first but now I think they intentionally made him look a little crappy to make him look exactly like a random future soldier dude from one of those 'learn game design at ______' ads

Edit: Seriously it feels like it'd be like playing that game that they're always working on in those commercials where they're working on tightening up those graphics (even though they're game testers)

big muscles?  check
generic armor? check.
shaved head? check.

yeah, his design is purposefully generic (fracture, gears of war, pretty much every character in resistance and killzone).  as far as the humor goes, dead head fred was a pretty clever game so i'm giving this the benefit of the doubt.  trailers for comedy in general rarely show their A material... except for the scary movie guys but their jokes are shit all around.

well there is some truth to this but it is generally still possible to make good obvious jokes. why do jokes in trailers have to be dumb? they don't. like this penultimate illusion hilarity. i can do the same joke in two seconds and it'll still stink. look:

"Cogs Of Battle", a game starring muscle-buddy Marvin Pegaziz in which the evil "Hopper Swarm" invade a strange grey dystopian Planet Earth. Then Max Hazard shows up with a couple'a FAQS: what's with all the grey? wow you guys sure grunt a lot! what is up with THAT? your muscles sure are a little...unrealistic...

i mean i totally appreciate the attempt to make fun of stupid game shit but this just looks pretty bad. i had an inkling it might stink back when that first trailer came out but taking a look at that Altos Tratus video i'm pretty sure this is just a bottom rung parody. i think the different between parody and satire is parody is like "look how dumb!!! we're gonna be lazy and just replicate the dumbness then point it out!!!", and a lot of self-references and fourth wall breaking goes on cos the audience is so dumb they'll never get it if you don't spell out every joke with crayons, and satire is more concerned with the ground up approach like why do they make heroes in jrpgs stoic, effeminate blondes in obscene clothes and then replicating that with the really stupid parts emphasized but not explicitly pointed to in order to maybe make the person laugh and also to make them think just a little bit.

so yeah this is looking like one of those scary movie type films so far.

Came out last week and I don't think anyone cared.

To sum up the "humor" it's basically Naked Gun with none of the charm.  I think I "heh'ed" a couple of times but like most American parody it's 10% non-sequiters and 90% point out the tropes.

The gameplay is cut and dry "run around shoot shit" with the occasional mini-games like the ridiculous quick time events that actually play better than every other QTE game.  I will say that the game is pretty tough (it could be because I'm playing on the hardest difficulty) but the enemies in general have decent AI.  They'll flank you and move from cover to cover constantly, blind fire, and if they have bigger guns they'll just straight up charge at you which turns gunfights into a frantic run for cover as you have guys with machine guns charging at you (and the accuracy of guns sucks when moving so it's tough to fight back).  Speaking of cover, this has my favorite cover system out of all the 3rd person shooters I've played.  It's a simple case of PRESS X TO HIDE but you can point the cursor at an object and press /\ to instantly move from your current position to the new position and you can even fire and reload while doing it.  It's a simple addition to the genre but it makes the action flow easier and more realistically.

And speaking of realistically, this is the only 3rd person shooter I've played where abruptly changing direction mid-move causes you to slide on the ground.  Sometimes it can spell life or death mid-battle so you have to carefully plan your course around objects otherwise that 2 second delay in momentum can cause your life.

How does the game seem overall, Marcus? I'm really interesting in this and if it's actually a solid game then I might pick it up.

Haven't played enough to form a long term opinion.  It's 50 ducats (that's 10 ducats cheaper than normal!) but I hear it's pretty short... like 8-10 hours which will last someone like me 3 weeks.

It's a really dumb and simple game.  You run around, watch a cutscene, shoot stuff, rinse and repeat.  In terms of shooters it's above average.  There's really no difference between this and God of War except for multiplayer which is the only reason why I think people even play short, boring games like that.

I guess if you like the following games then this will be for you:

Armed and Dangerous
God of War
Lost Planet
Syphon Filter (minus the stealth levels)
Psi Ops
Max Payne
etc.

Wait what, this is out? Every site says 3rd March and I haven't seen this being sold anywhere. I seriously think this game could be good if it's consistently funny and the gameplay isn't too repetitive but there are no reviews of the game out yet so I wanna read about it before I buy it.
