Man isn't this the one way to do a good video game movie adaption? The only way to make it good is to drop the games events and much of its story because that is made for a game and rarely/never translates into a movie well.
I wouldn't say this is true considering that pretty all video game movies released to date have done this and have ranged from the crappy to the abysmal. I imagine if they did follow the story accurately the movie would be a million times better.
This particular games story I care little for... but I still think it would be better that they FOLLOW IT, rather then throw in a random crappy story that sort of connects the game and movie in name only that some hack writes for it.
Why did I hate DOOM? other then the obvious general low quality. They changed much of the story for the worse. For instance, instead of having Demons from hell, they changed it to a generic crazy mutant shit. or how instead of at least atempting to give a sense of fear by keeping the number of characters low (sense of loneliness), they make it a whole fucking team of idiots. And they center the story around the wrong people all together, it would have been much more interesting for the story to show how the base was taken over rather then have us watch a squad team come in to do what seems like clean up.
Or Silent Hill, The acting was decent, but they changed to much fucking story to the point that it again was just "generic horror movie". I literally stopped watching it halfway through. (something I should have done with DOOM honestly) The story in the original was good enough for a movie, if it was replicated correctly it would have been an excellent movie.
I want to see a video game movie that replicates the story on the level of the GOOD book to movie adaptations. So far there really hasn't been one. They have all pretty much veered off on their own terribly written story and it feels like each time I watch a movie like this I feel like I'm being spit on (as a fan of the series).
