If you're into detective stories (I guess, haven't watched much yet) then check out Ergo Proxy. The animation is beautiful and from what I've watched so far it seems to be pretty cool. Anyone else on GW who's seen some Ergo Proxy?

I've seen it, Doctor! I've seen that Ergo Proxy, well you might as well go for Casshern Sins, Noein, Bokurano (this is cooler & nearly real than Evangelion!)

In the Works:
[RM2K3::SFF-RPG] Wailing Mongooses in Gildepazzo

Under Hiatus/Literary Work mode:
[Lit/Rm2k3 :: Interactive Drama] NetGame Saga PROTOTYPE
[RMXP :: RPG] NetGame Saga

Monster is probably as non-anime as anime can get so you should watch it if you're afraid of usual stereotypes (although I just read the manga I hear the anime adaptation exceeded expectations or some shit).

EDIT: Paranoia agent is kind of like that too. Hell, just look up "seinen" anime and you might find a few interesting ones.

I also used to watch DBZ a lot when I was younger so the idea of having ULTIMATE POWER BEINGS still excites me (although I am open to the idea of shows that don't contain energy blasts, psychic hands, or god-like beings). I'm not into Naruto, though, so please don't suggest that.

Bleach.

There, I said it. (It wasn't so hard guys, why do you always want to be elitist whenever someone asks for anime suggestions?)

It tries to do a lot of stuff at once, but what you described is what the show does best. There are a bunch of episodes, so you'll probably end up watching them all in rapid sucession and get sick of the show pretty quick, but it's a good ride while it lasts (for one thing, the bullshit it tries to pull is a lot more bearable than the crap you get with Naruto, although it strikes some strong similarities at times).

Oh yeah, and out of a lot of dubbed animes, I like the dubbed version of Bleach more than most. (Like most dubs, it has it's problems, but putting the guy who did Vash from Trigun as the main character was a suprisingly good fit.)

Gurren Lagann is 27. :D

Plus what is this massive plot twist you talk about? I can't really think of any apart from . Is that the one you're referring to? Or maybe They're the only two I can think of but none were like HOH DAMN BEST EVER (I liked KotoR's twist better!). I'm just curious. :)
I'm talking about yeh. Probably the biggest shock i've seen in any series. Unless you were to like, combine all the cliffhangers from Prison Break into one big :fogetgasp: moment, maybe that would beat it.

Also noone said Bleach because that show has gone to shit?

I think it's because despite being above the rest... it's still a generic shounen affair.

Yah, the only reason I suggested it was because he specifically expressed interest in watching something exactly like that.

Thought he should at least know about it in that case.

Don't get me wrong... I do watch it in big sittings from time to time... but as a shounen it still suffers from horrible pacing and fillers and that's a huge turn off.

From your description of what you like there is only one way for you to go: One Piece! You have to watch One Piece. It is one of those fighting animes like DBZ but it handles everything miles better, has great characters and story and man just everything about it is bloody awesome. Honestly I love everything about it except for when the fights go into so much power omg territory but since it seems you actually liek that I can't think of a single thing you will not like about it. Except for maybe the art style the first 30 episodes.

This! The dub is near-perfect and the series is overall incredibly enjoyable. This is the best of the best there is.

no there are a lot of us who find it pretty lol that grown men could watch one piece but its really beating a dead horse at this point.  idk the appeal all those long-running kid's shows kind of elude me, honestly.

I thought I might chip in here and say that I also don't particularly see what is so good about One Piece.

Also, has anyone seen some Post-Apocalyptic sorta animes? I got Ergo Proxy because it was sorta like that, is there any others that are sorta in that kind of genre?

most people (everyone??) who have gotten through one piece's first dozen episodes love it for a good reason. i used to bash it too but then i watched the whole thing and it's fucking great. sure, overall it's a pretty typical shounen series (but perhaps the most unique as well), it doesn't try to be deep or anything but as long as you like the kind of action and drama present in shounen, you'll love it. and it's genuinely funny.

anyway, i'm gonna second gurren lagann. it's the best recent series i can think of. and as long as you don't mind sports anime, hajime no ippo is very fucking cool! i prefer major to it but as long as cool badass action goes hajime no ippo wins hands down. i'm not a huge fan of bleach, soul society arc is great but beyond that it's just pretty good and hasn't excited me for a long time but it's worth giving a try even if you don't like naruto.

also idk try gungrave and the twelve kingdoms or something.
