Gurren Lagann and/or Fullmetal Alchemist are good if you like shonen at all. FLCL is the clearest glimpse into the nature of adolescence I've ever seen in an anime (with good music), The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is extremely fun to watch, Paranoia Agent is filled with interesting visual trickery and Excel Saga is just really insane. All are highly recommended.

Also, you really ought to see Denno Coil, if you can find it.

EDIT: On top of all that, TEKKONKINKREET! The visuals are excellent, the soundtrack is awesome and despite some pacing issues and a confusing ending it is certainly worth watching.

You people disgust me. This overwhelming bias for the shounen genre is quite frankly little more than a thinly veiled propagation of esoteric gender politics. From a young age I watched the all-female cast of Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon and felt with each defeated youma as if the fairer sex was being liberated not only from the clutches of the negaverse, but from the chains that bound their grandmothers to the kitchen. If young girls could see strong female characters occupying the heroic roles once dominated by men, and retain their femininity while doing so, surely the next generation would know gender equality.

It is clear that through your support of the testosterone-pumped likes of Bleach and Naruto you seek to maintain an anachronistic status quo, so that you can continue to hold higher paying jobs than women and disregard the blatant social discrimination that is so prevalent today. I strongly suggest you all take a strong look in the reflective sheen of your One Piece DVDs and rethink your anime viewing habits.

I don't know what you think Sailor Moon is supposed to be, but anyone else can clearly see that Sailor Moon is shoen too.

I know this is true, because I watched wayy too much of that show for it not to be the case.

It's offical, every single anime that could possibly be mentioned has been suggested for you to watch. (Everything discussed in this form+Everything not discussed in this form = Everything)

this series is prob my fave out of the boatload of animes ive watched (though some of the moves do get repetitive... getsuga tenshou 100 times please?)

Actually wouldn't that suggestion reverse the topic meaning he can't watch anything thats been mentioned in this topic. Since he said nothing in this forum not everything not discussed in this forum.

Well, telling someone to not watch anime in a "SUGGEST ME ANIME(?S?)" topic is sort counter-intuitive. I assumed the post implied to simply watch anything not mentioned in this topic, since to take it otherwise would be to acknowledge an off-topic post.

Although I wasn't taking the comment I replied to seriously (since it sounded like someone trying to be funny/ironic rather than give a legitimate suggestion), so I'm kinda suprised you decided to take what I said seriously.

Oh yeah, and redwolf, your list neglects to mention Ikkaku. Someone should shoot you in the ankle so you'll remember not to make that mistake twice.

Wait... Zaraki Kenpachi isn't in that list either?! Out of a list you yourself named "Badass characters", you mention fucking Isshin of all people but don't even think to mention Kenpachi?! What the hell is wrong with you?!!

Ikkaku and Zaraki should be on the list but meh it was a short little list i thought straight off the top of my head...
Byakuya should be on there.. half the bleach characters should be on it lollllll im just a lazy ass

good crazy comedy:
-Jungle wa Itsumo Hale Nochi Guu (and its other 2 seasons).
-Cromartie High

good comedy/slice of life:
-Yotsuba&! (manga only?)
-Azumanga Daioh
-Minami-ke (the second season isnt as good)

good shojo:
-Tokyo Mew Mew
-Fruits Basket

good horror/psychological/whatever:
-Higurashi no Naku Koro ni
-Death Note
-Paranoia Agent

good classic shonen:
-Naruto
-Bleach
-Yakitate! Japan (although it's really making fun of shonen animes.)

good ecchi/comedy:
-Kanokon (kind of fantasy, also)

A friend of mine gave me a dvd of Elfen Lied. I'm only a few episodes in, and I keep dreading it every time Nyu or Nana is around the little puppy. I'm a dog person, so I really don't want dog entrails strewn about the screen.

I would also recommend Wolf's Rain and Jin Roh : The Wolf Brigade

Gurren Lagann is fucking awesome, watch it. Aside from that (and other common mentions like One Piece):

Death Note - really good psychological mystery/thriller (although I wish it ended differently)
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni - crazy fucked up horror
Berserk - the manga is way way way WAAAAY better, but the anime is decent and might get you hooked on the fantastic manga (premise: guy with huge-ass sword seeks revenge and fucks shit up 24/7)

Yeah Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni is a very good anime, and the second season is like 10000000 times better than the first season and the 1st was completely epic. I recommend Jiguko Shoujo too, and if you watch it and find the 1st season tell me because haven't seen it lol.

I don’t think anyone has mentioned Deathnote, its a must see for anime fans and will keep you at the edge of your chair with every episode.

Claymore was lots of fun to watch although only having one season will surely disappoint you if you decide to watch this great underrated show.

Black lagoon I think it was called was also pretty cool to watch especially the first 2-3 episodes.
