CONTAINS A SPOILER ABOUT MICHELLE RODRIGUEZ

Saw Avatar in 3-D, I thought the visuals and character design was pretty top notch. The storyline was indeed a re-hash of dancing with wolves except nowhere near as deep. Every character was essentially a one-dimensional cliche, from the buff commando to the nerdy scientist, Michelle Rodriguez is essentially the worst actor in the world and I cringed every time she said some cheesy one-liner like "yyyyyeah bitch" fuck that was terrible! She was essentially reacting her character from FAST AND FURIOUS ugh. I liked that she died though that was cool.

I thought the alien culture was quite cool although I could tell it borrowed heavily from African stuff.

Rodriguez is currently working on two screenplays. One is a family film based on a concept which she describes as "a 2012 story about purity and animals and children."

holy shit please no

mike judge's extract. I dunno, it wasn't that good. ok I guess, probably the best comedy this year but that's not saying anything. wait, whatever works was this year? yeah that was better than this. between whatever works (good) and the hangover (zzz)

I liked michael bluth and jackie. no really, mila kunis wasn't actually jackie but jason bateman's character was literally michael bluth. and the annoying guy, I forget the actor's name was pretty much just from office space

would not recommend

Yeah, the culture was really in-depth and made up for the story we've seen a dozen times before.

but I'm just going to stop there because GW is full of people who didn't like Avatar and want everyone to know they didn't like Avatar.

Not directly related, but I did just see District 9.

I haven't seen Avatar yet, but I have a feeling I'm going to like District 9 a little bit more regardless. Well, unless I can see Avatar while it's still in theaters, I  can't help but get a kick out of the 3d stuff.

if you aren't interested in fantasy, design and the creation of other worlds, then Avatar most likely wont appeal to you. Mark Kermode's review of the movie is pretty good and kind of sums up the movie.

I agree with this.  Overall I thought it was alright, but I don't really plan on watching it ever again.

Edit:

Mm, also saw Princess and the Frog, and man Disney has gone downhill.

District 9 is fucking awesome.  I don't give a fuck what anyone says, that movie rules.

I really hope that movie wins a few awards.

i just saw avatar, and yea the story/characters etc were pretty bland but i'd say it was worth it for the visual spectacle alone. it was the first time i've seen a 3d movie and it was pretty amazing stuff! it wasn't like MINDBLOWING but it was definitely a lot more immersive than a normal movie.

man that movie is really fucked up and really funny at the same time. robin williams did a great job in it too. Its got a really slow start but when shit starts happening it just gets better and better (worse and worse)

i just saw inglorious basterds. it was pretty good actually, if you forget that it's a film by tarantino. something about tarantino and his movies rub me the wrong way (except reservoir dogs which was actually pretty good). tarantino, though, LOVES for people to know that the movie you are watching is made by him. "OH? A ROOM FULL OF PEOPLE WITH GUNS? LETS HAVE ALL OF THEM DIE!" and then later in the movie "OH? A ROOM FULL OF TWO PEOPLE WITH GUNS? LETS HAVE BOTH OF THEM DIE!" and then some really stupid stuff happens

but for the most part, it's pretty compelling. predictable, but compelling.

some of the scenes were like, why was this in the movie (and i thought at the beggining the hans guy (terrific performance) was going to spill milk on the jews hiding underneath the floorboards!!!!
