I haven't seen New Moon.

But for me it's to make fun of it with my friends. The first one was funnier than any comedy I saw that year.

I watched all three with the believe that the current movie can in no way be worser than the last and 2 out of 3 times ive been wrong. Im not sure why but for some reason I keep expecting that 1 of 5 movies will at least be decent.

I saw Twilight: Eclipse with my date on Saturday. I'm not into romance, but it wasn't a bad movie. I didn't know much about Twilight prior to watching it, but with the amount of hate the series gets, I was expecting to be subjected to the worse thing imaginable, and......I wasn't. Not even close. I even laughed a few times.

Granted, the two leads were by far the most boring characters out of the whole cast, but the actors did the best they could, I suppose.

Team Jacob ftw

No I know Robert Pattinson is purposely being a bad actor because he hates Twilight so much, Kristen Stewart might be doing the same thing (especially considering she did p good in Into The Wild).
I think the best scene, with the best like acting and chemistry and everything, is the one throwaway scene between her and her father where he tries to give her "the talk". It really was like, the best acted scene in the entire movie imho. the dad owns, I like the dad. In all the movies he's done a good job of being "concerned single dad, no control over daughter, she has a secret!"

That was my favorite scene too. I think that was the only time the actress actually smiled.

But from what I gather, her character is actually worse in the books... Yikes.

I just watched the 1988 version of The Blob for the first time.  It reminded me a lot of John Carpenter's The Thing (I guess mostly the awesome 80's violence) and I ended up loving it.  It actually really surprised me with and .  Really fun movie.

Colossus: The Forbin Project

ridiculously dated, but a neat movie. i kinda think it was the precursor for the disaster movie genre, and it's kinda interesting to see that general formula done in a way that isn't meant to be as fucking ludicrous as possible. not a movie i'd really recommend to most people, though. it's really made for people who really dig the patchwork style of movies from the 60s and 70s.

for what it's worth if you liked the movie wargames you might want to check it out; the filmmakers later admitted that wargames is pretty much colossus but with matthew broderick instead of a slick german dude. actually that's probably not fair, as joshua is a lot more endearing than colossus, but still it's really the same idea.

also a really good print of this movie is on youtube if you're curious or have a little less than two hours to throw away on a movie.

actually i saw a whole bunch of pretty good movies lately, the best of which was the china syndrome. really goddamn cool movie. manages to cover a rather deceptively complex array of topics in a really short amount of time. it probably spreads itself too thin to be a really GREAT movie, but it's still really good. it's kinda dated for the most part, but whenever jack lemmon and wilford brimley are on-screen you get completely sucked in and forget about the 70s goofiness of the movie.

what's probably the most interesting thing about the china syndrome is that it was the first film to really cover the idea of nuclear meltdowns and, incredibly, came out less than two weeks before the three mile island incident. really ridiculous coincidence.

Starship Troopers, which I haven't seen it in a long long time.  I know that I'm in the vast minority, but I love this movie.  It's awesome.

kafka

vaguely interesting movie, but really boring for the most part. basically a lifeless version of welles' the trial. that's not really a fair comparison i guess, but there's a lot more soderbergh could have done with this movie, particularly considering the supporting cast he ended up with and the general framework of the movie. it really felt like a low-budget 90s movie rather than the effective period film the style seemed to be going for. i think this could have been the best film of the decade in the right hands, but soderbergh pretty much just turned the camera on and made jeremy irons carry the film, which isn't at all how this movie should have been made.

the screenplay played a big part in how it all fell apart too. i wasn't really paying close enough to it all to determine if it was soderbergh's direction or just senseless dialogue, but the film really didn't begin to capture the essence of kafka's dialogue, which i thought was kinda the point of the movie. guys like alec guiness and ian holm were absolutely perfect casting for this movie, but had literally nothing to work with, or were just held back from really doing anything interesting. it felt like there was this reluctance on soderbergh's part to really dive into the fantasy world of franz kafka which, again, makes absolutely no sense as that's what the film was supposed to be about.

i used to think soderbergh was PRIMO DIRECTOR but i don't really think this anymore. he's definitely got some good ideas, but i don't think he has particularly creative methods to put it all together. oddly enough i think the best way to describe him would be ALL SUBSTANCE, NO STYLE. he gets lucky sometimes, but for the most part his films are unusually lifeless and empty, even with good subject matter. not a particularly daring filmmaker i guess, which is kinda annoying because there's really no reason why he shouldn't be.

Saw Despicable Me. Great film. Had tears in my eyes at various points, then to contrast that with the feeling of joy is such a neat feeling. I usually don't get emotional during films but this did it for me. I recommend it. (Saw it in 2D so I can't comment about the 3D version. I wish this 3D fad would just die. So sick of it).

i don't think you're in the minority, this is a pretty big cult movie and i think we've even discussed it in this topic. this is a pretty poorly done movie but i don't there's many people who don't think it's at least entertaining!

i watched "let the right one in" on netflix and it was pretty good! i really am not into the vampire thing only because it seems like a dried out idea back in the 90s, but this movie presents it in, not an original light i'd say, but definitely in a way that is thought provoking and in a way that suggests vampires could be real without them living in groups in the forest or burying themselves in the ground every night.

i did like this movie a lot, though the bit about the main vamps gender threw me off for most of the movie and still does after wiking it.

Oh maybe not then.  Everyone I've ever talked to about it said they hated it.
