hyakprods, an Invisible Movement reader, spoke to John at the Hullabaloo and asked him about the new album. John’s response was that the release date for the album is 20th January 2009 and that its title is The Empyrean. Assuming that, with such a scenario it is no longer a secret, here you have it. And now we all have something beautiful to look forward to.

John also said that he is not likely to do any performance-type shows anytime soon, as he is focusing on being creative rather than presenting music to audiences right now.

* John Frusciante – vocals, acoustic and electric guitar.
* Josh Klinghoffer – Drums
* Flea - Bass
* Vanessa Freebairn-Smith - Cello

Sucks that he won't be touring after the album! As a huge fanboy I'd pretty much travel anywhere to see him. :(

thanks, ryan. i've got high hopes for this one, and that's a cool title he's picked. i remember a long while ago john said something about this one being influence by classical music and that title and the celloist tells me maybe it actually is (i didn't really believe it cos john has a way of talking crap a lot of the time). i'm pretty excited! it'll be released on the day obama is sworn in huh...gonna watch obama ascend to the empyrean...

every time i hear bits of news like this i get all fuck! i gotta get making more music! i really do like that title. the empyrean.

I used to really really like his early solo stuff but I'm not feelin' anything he's done since shadows collide with people

Maybe it's just because he just kinda banged out the 6 after that in 6 months, but almost all of his solo stuff has been boring as fuck

it probably has been pretty boring yeah. i like certain songs a lot here and there but probably you add up those 6 albums you get about 10 really cool tracks. i like the album the will to death quite a lot, but it could have been better. i don't really care though, you know? i mean i don't actually listen to john that much these days aside from little spurts where i kind of rediscover him and get that story of him as the pariah junkie writing on the walls going through my head again. when it comes to john i just take in any of his output as cool, this is what he's doing now. i get why steel laughs at john frusciante but i don't mind i just like the guy and i know his music so well, plus every so often he does something really cool.

yeah, i don't know.  his early stuff, i agree basically niandra lades/smile from the streets you hold/to record water i thought were all pretty solid.  now he is kinda hit or miss but on any given more recent album (curtains, shadows collide, the will to death, mostly), i can find about five songs i like and the rest are throwaway.

well uh.  it is but it is also VERY WEIRD//EXPERIMENTALIST.  If you want something more accessible get like Curtains or To Record Only Water For Ten Days or Shadows Collide With People.  But I'd suggest Niandra Lades if you can get into it.

Curtains and SPhere are his only weak albums. Very weak.

And you guys, don't skip From The Sounds Inside, it is an amazing record.

Sweet, I might have to check this out. I really liked Niandra LaDes, but I haven't really been able to get into his other stuff.

for anyone who maybe hasn't heard these, i disagree with this. curtains is half boring as hell half really nice songs. like time tonight, the past recedes, anne, ascension. and sphere in the heart of silence is good music, too. it's got communique and at your enemies and one or two other good ones. you have to be in the mood for it though.

Anne is one of his best songs imo.

Niandra/Smile are my two favorite, but yeah To Record Only Water and Shadows are both really good too. I like the brown bunny OST, from the sounds inside, and the will to death a whole lot too.

Beasley, note Frusciante has 2 voices. That's pre-99 voice, post-99 is a more mature voice
