You have no idea what is involved in adding content to an mmo if you equate it to just an expansion.

Guys you know this won't come out for like five years.  Do you remember Warcraft 3 :(

Also Starcraft is pretty huge in the states man!  It's just been . . . so long . . .

They are aiming for a 2009 release. It has been in development for 5 years now already. They also released BETA keys for an "upcoming title" to anyone who attended Blizzcon (this is assumed to be for Starcraft 2, because they have stated Diablo 3 is out of the design phase but they still need to add all the content and that it will appear after the first installment of Starcraft 2 and Battle.net 2.0). Anyone who has managed to get their hands on Starcraft 2, though, has seen how far along they really are. All three races were already playable last year in their entirety.

Good thing I don't then, eh?

To my understanding this is pretty much exactly like Starcraft 1 except REAL 3D WOO and some new units and less old units. Is there any BIG changes?

The whole thing is a pretty big change if you ask me, but it looks very much still Starcraft--which is a good thing. One of the biggest changes as far as I can tell is actually going to be the World Editor which is more powerful than the WC3 editor and they have explicitly said they want to add new functionality and support for the mod/custom map communities.

Cool. That and simultaneous PC/Mac release, I'm sure to get this game once it comes out. I hope the expansions won't cost too much. Not that I really care since I've always been better with Terrans but I,m a sucker for stories and I'll want to get through all 3 sides of it.

That poster reminds me of an RPG Maker game overhype without a demo.

Though, I've never played warcraft or starcraft, hell maybe I'll play this.

And in South Korea, it's pretty huge there. Like, I hear professional Starcraft players are like rockstars or something over there.

Yeah. You know how in the US, all of the jocks and ripped dumbasses get all the girls in school? Well, in South Korea, it's all the top Starcraft players who get the women. And if you can't play Starcraft, no matter how ripped you are, girls will ignore you.

It...it kinda goes the other way, too.

Anyways, they apparently started development on Starcraft 2 after the Warcraft 3 expansion came out...so it's been a good four years to make stuff. Which means we can expect this game to come out in ~996 years, if we're lucky.

It has virtually become the national sport of Korea, with several official competitions and dedicated 24/7 TV channels.  If you're interested, go to Team Liquid and check out their VODs.

Awesome, now I can tell StarCraft fanboys around here to move too South Korea and actually have a truthful excuse as to why.

I always wanted too get into 3d modeling, but I wanted to start small so I think I might get into it making units for StarCraft2.

lol when I went to korea I sat on the couch watching the starcraft channel for like a half hour while my wife's younger brother tried to explain to me in terrible english why its on TV and how many people actually watch it.

also if you ever walk into the little internet cafes there(PC-BANG) chances are good you'll find no less than 3 korean males(multiply this by 12 for the bigger ones in larger cities) in their early teens chainsmoking and eating ramen with rotten cabbage all over it while playing starcraft

The Starcraft channel...

Well they are like rock stars there so I am not suprised. Sure Starcraft is like THE strategy game in it's time and still is to an extent today, with it's only setback it's graphics (but at the time it was pretty good so...) that any shitty computer can play (thats why I still play it), but I never figured it'd be so huge. I mean Diablo 2 having a higher score of most popular game, even more so then WoW (although this was 1 and a half years ago so it probably changed now, but that blew my mind when I saw it) was the most glory any old game would still get to this day but man... CELEBRITY status to the people who play Starcraft pro? I know where to go if I ever go pro in gaming, South Korea.

they're not big celebrities, like the average dude or dudette in a bar or on the street is not gonna know who won the last starcraft tournament. It's just that because Korea has a denser population of dorks who spend all their time playing starcraft and that online games are a little more common among youth over there that it becomes profitable for the media to cater to them with things like starcraft/RTS TV channel.

It's probably like a few notches below minor league baseball player or 3rd-tier professional wrestler as far as celebrity status goes.

Not looking forward to this at all.
The graphics are too WC3 like, and the fact that they have a rock paper scissor like system pisses me off, and the whole game was made noob friendly so that micro isnt a very large issue. It's going to suck. If I get it, I'll probably play it for a week and switch back to SC1.

Not that I agree the game is Rock Paper Scissors, but what kind of system would you prefer?

I liked the new gameplay videos with all the new units like the Mothership and Changling and stuff. But yeah, something about the graphics is throwing me off. They changed how some of the units look and got rid of some (like the Reaver). There seems to be more "if you build this, you pretty much own the other guy" units like the Mothership and the zerg units that can move underground and corrupt an entire Terran base in a matter of seconds. There will be more strategy involved in this though for Terrans at least, now that supply depots can be sunk underground. But I think it will be a long time before Korea gives up SC1 for SC2 tourneys.
