some of these people have been on gw for several years, I'm not sure you've been actively posting over a year!

also you should have never asked that question, GW loves this fucking question and now the topic will become POST YOUR LOG IN TIMES.
Yeah, I mostly lurked for the first 4 years, so I can't say that I've 'successfully abstained' from GW, but even so this is pretty bad. I could be doing something productive. I guess I'll probably feel better about wasting time here once I finish high school so I can actually finish my projects. I can't believe that GD is still foreign to me. Ugh.

At any rate, this is actually helpful because it's given me a new angle for the neg. I could argue the whole child-molester point, but I think facebook's system pretty much beats that into the ground. No reason why other networks shouldn't be as strict. At any rate, I think I'll point out the general amount of time people spend on forums and

wait. I could bring up 4chan or something.

I think GW does wonders for helping me find underage children to molest. *Eyes S4D hungrily*

I love my evidence packet.

"Affirmative Turn: Talking to Strangers is Bad"

They give me evidence on why talking to strangers is bad. Christ I'ma love arguing this topic. By the way, if I ever post a topic up here that you're currently researching or whatever, go ahead and PM me and I'll send you my evidence packet for it. Lately though, my evidence packets've been sucking.

Ok, just a question that is entirely unrelated to the topic, but to debate itself. I too, am a debater, but in Canada, rather than the US. What style do you guys use down there? I would assume it's completely different from what we use, thought I may be wrong.

how i have 18 days logged in doesn't even make sense to me. 18 days? that's fucking scary shit.

and that's just for THIS forum incarnation, isn't it? throw in back when i actually went to gw a lot and it'd be probably disgustingly high.

That's awesome! It's great to know that we've got debaters. Then at least I know SOMEONE will be arguing constructively here.

We have a wide range of debate styles down here:
Lincoln-Douglas: I'm sure you don't call it LD, but it's your basic 1 on 1 debate. I prefer this style. The timing (I think) is 6-3-7-3-4-6-3 (aff, negcx, neg, affcx, closing aff, closing neg, closing aff).
Public Forum: 2 on 2. I don't really remember the timing, but it's a lot less depthy because the constructive speeches last only about 4 minutes.
Policy Debate: 2 on 2. Really long-winded, and the resolutions are chosen for the entire year. I haven't debated in this one yet, because the style's basically degenerated into WHOEVER CAN SAY THE MOST ARGUMENTS WINS.
Congress: It's really an IE, but I like to call it a debate because it has debate elements. Basically we all act like senators and we debate about certain bills. Constructive speeches are only 3 minutes. Fun thing is, before the round starts we can motion for stupid stuff. A friend of mine once motioned for everyone to be known as "Lords and Ladies" instead of senators. Fun!

The resolutions for LD, PF, and Policy are found on the national forensic league website @ nflonline.org. Congress resolutions are found there too (I think). They're issued in bulk, and the Presiding Officers overseeing each debate pick which ones to debate about.

And that's just about it as far as the debates go. So -- you guys have a single style, or...?

EDIT:
By the way, if I ever do congress, I'ma motion to be known as "Senator McCain"

We really only have one major style that gets used at every tournament. It's called Canadian Parliamentary. 2 vs 2. Speech times are 8-8-8-8-4-4. Proposition Constructive - Opposition Constructive - Prop - Opp - Opposition Rebuttal - Proposition Rebuttal. Points of information are allowed, which gives it some diversity.

We also have British Parliamentary but that's only used about twice the whole year and I have no idea how to do it yet (this is my first year in debate). I do know that it's 2 and 2 vs 2 and 2. It's kind of complicated to explain. This is a good guide, though it doesn't really explain the timing. Also it's entirely impromptu apparently.

Actually we also use Worlds Style, which is three on three. I haven't done this yet either. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Schools_Style_debate

So, apparently we do use entirely different styles, then. I don't know how in the world you would be able to do a public forum debate, 4 minutes is absolutely no time to do anything.

Oh, also, all our resolutions are phrased as "This House Believes That <insert resolution here>."

Also, one of the kids who was on the Canadian national team last year went to my school. So it's really good to be able to get advice from him. On that note, do you have any idea how the US does in international competition? Or if they even do international competition?
