Surprised there's not a topic on this already. But yeah, bout a week or so this came out on PSN and X-Box Live. It's more than just Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo with HD graphics though. When fighting you can either choose from the remixed fighting system or the classic fighting system that was used in the original SSF2T. You also have the ability to play online and from what I've played so far, the online is pretty good. For me so far most of my matches have been lagless except for in a couple of rare cases. Now, if you're a purist and want the original graphics, Capcom has included the option to switch between the original character sprites and the HD ones. You can also choose from the newly remixed soundtrack or the original SSF2T music.

Overall, for about $15 this is a pretty good deal. But yeah, I want to hear what other people think about it. And if anyone's on X-Box Live and wants to have a match, I'm up for it.

Bought it and, personally, wasn't too blown away. The HD sprites and backgrounds look pretty darn great but I don't know.. Underneath the shiny exterior, it's the same thing.

I think it's great.  I do agree that it's pretty much the same old stuff, but it's Street Fighter II that a) will play nicely with my TV (unlike my super nintendo), b) allows me to use a significantly nicer controller, c) lets me play online, and d) has updated graphics and sound.  Overall it was worth the download for me, and it's just plain fantastic in that respect.

Well... yeah, it's just a HD version of the game after all.  :hmm:

Not really. You forgot to add that they remixed the battle system and that they added online. I mean that's kind of true, but it really is more than Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo with HD graphics. Much more? No, but it is more than just an HD version of the game.

That may be true Arnold, but still... you should expect the same core since it's bascially an update of an older game.

I wasn't really a big fan of Super Street Fighter 2 anyway, didin't like the way it played.

This game is worth the $10 or whatever though, definitely.

Yeh the graphics are better, but they fixed the game itself too. You can actually play Zangief and T.Hawk now, you can actually do Guile's super, and all the ultra retarded attacks that made some rounds pathetic (SPAM VEGA DIVE ATTACK FOREVER) are less retarded now. Overall it's much more enjoyable and much less retarded.

When I play I play with the old graphics and music enabled. I think they could have saved a lot of time and money.

thing is, they can't tamper with the animations

so that the game remains the same, they were allowed to use as many sprites as the animations on the old arcade ssf2t

and basically every sprite is the same picture except redrawn, so you can't hope for magic

Yeah, basically. This is probably so that it would still feel the same as playing with the classic sprites.

Well, I'm not talking about animation time. If they were good animators, they could keep the the same amount of frames as the original game but improve/change those frames with an understanding of the principles of animation. This is just a needlessly polished version of what was in its time a great game. UDON have never really been great at drawing so I guess it's not really a surprise that they wouldn't be such good animators either.

Erh, clumsy sentence.

They could have made body parts not change sizes, and they could have made some attacks look vastly different by changing things around that do not affect the general silhouette much (and therefore following the bounding boxes). I'm not saying their work is shite! It isn't, I love the new look! But hell they even traced the backgrounds, they added a New York silhouette in Ken's stage background, but most stages are completely traced from the old ones including the wonky animations on the Dee Jay dancers, the horrible contrast issues in T.Hawk's stage, etc.
