For those of you who haven't heard of it, Dwarf Fortress is a cross-platform computer Strategy Game developed by Bay 12 Games. In it, you play as a group of dwarves trying to build a successful fortress, in hopes that it will eventually grow to become the capitol of your nation, while defending against sieges, natural disasters, baby-snatchers, and the occasional Titan bent on stomping your little Dwarves into the granite floor.

Anyway, I'd like to extend an invitation to any GWers, from novices to veterans, to join in a multiplayer Dwarf Fortress bloodline game. Signups are starting now, but if anyone who wants to join in after its started can jump in at the bottom of the que (so long as the fort has dwarves left of course). All you need to do is Download the game from Bay 12's Website, and sign up here. If you're completely new to the game, I might suggest checking out the Dwarf Fortress Wiki and getting a few practice forts in so that you know the basics when your turn comes up.

In a bloodline game, when a player's turn comes up, they inherit control of the fortress for one game year. The first year, players select one of the Dwarves currently in the fort who doesn't belong to someone else, and they become your character. After the year is up and a new Spring arrives, the old leader retires to their profession to make room for a new leader. Next time your turn rolls around, you can re-select the old leader, or pick a new one.

If anyone has any other questions about the game, how Bloodline Games work, or whatever I'd be happy to answer too.[/quote]

Alright, 2 more opted in, bringing us to 4 so far. That's enough to get started at least, so I'm going to go ahead with the first year. If anyone wants dibs on a dwarf, just let me know.

P.S. The site isn't a traditional mountain fort either, just so y'all know. :fogetshh:

Yeah, DF owns.  Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to get into it lately, but I did make a few decent forts in the past - enough to unleash the demons pre-3D, anyway.  (I lost.)

I'd do it, but I've yet to try Dwarf Fortress out.

Which I will do right now.

Holy Carp, Kef... that fort is bloody amazing! Did you make that? I love the gigantic Emerald dragon inlay in one of the round rooms... I did not know that ASCII symbols could be so pretty.

I admit I tend to go function over form, but that is still some bloody brilliant work.

P.S. Ralph, was that an "I'm going to check DF, but no definite sign-up yet." or a "What the hell, sign me up even though I'm a Complete Novice!"

Is it possible to sign up later. I'm not at all sure if I'd be able to get to this any time soon. But if this is alive after a bunch of turns I possibly wouldn't mind doing a turn. But you know. Probably not this year. So I'm just expressing support and love for Dwarf Fortress!

I've got no problem with later signups or anything. Also, I'm building a sealed swimming chamber of 4-deep water, and imposing mandatory week-long swimming training for all dwarves. Especially with a Major River on the map... Bearded Carp Snax they are not.

Nish is already a Legendary Bookie by the way. And he and my dwarf have had a Grudge going since Olod won the Stonemason as a lover Ohoho cockblocking dwarf-drama!

I didn't make it.  I could probably come up with something expansive like that, but actually doing that in-game, tile by tile? I dunno.

My best fort isn't close to that.

Through sheer power of awesomeness.
Also, if you go into the Legends mode, you can export a high-detail BMP map as of the latest version. I just fiddled with the resultant BMP to add settlements and such.

And yeah, my forts always look spartan and utilitarian. I'm much better at building complex traps and machine crap than I am at making aesthetically pleasing layouts.

Besides, that's Elfy Stuff.

Yeah, I was talking about the OP map not that emerald dragon one (which was made in 2d dwarf fortress where there's BAZILLIONS of stone to mine into and it's all flat).

I love making traps and ridiculously complex siege entrances

Don't add me in just yet, 'kay? I'm way too much of a n00b right now. Maybe next time when you make one of these.

Okay, got you two added in, and I'm almost done with the first year. All the necessities should be in place by the time Winter rolls around. Oh, and BTW Woman, the only sand on the map is in an Aquifer layer, and until some kind of amazing pump system gets set up, the Glassmaker has become secondary miner, and has been picking up the odd jobs.

P.S. Story Update in the first post.

P.P.S. Woot! 500 posts!

Nice obsidian farm. Bonus points if you ONLY use obsidian for the entire fortress.
