I want a MP3 player that allows you to just drag and drop files onto it without any problems. I don't want to be forced into using iTunes. I listen to a whole lot of music, and probably won't watch movies on it. So, what are your favorites?

I'll second the vote for the Creative Zen. I used to own one, and drag and drop worked fantastic on it.

well pretty much every device except the ipod lets you do that, so if i were you i'd go with the creative zen too, from my experience they aren't bad. failing that, samsung's mp3 players are fairly solid.

I spent £15 on an MP3 player and $90 on headphones.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000PE6RUI/3000222g-21

It's great. I expanded it with MicroSD so it has the capacity of one of those flashy ipods and it supports sync in media player and drag and drop and it has no organisational problems at all. You can use it as a memory stick too. It charges from USB.

Also it's cheap so if some fucker nicks it or you break it then you won't cry.

The Sansa Clip is a pretty dumb mp3 player, but that sansa looks like it might work better. I was actually thinking of getting a Zen for a while.

The only thing I really have against iPods is that you can't put songs that you get from random websites on it can you? they force you to pay for them, right? or am I mistaken?

that's also a lie, my ipod mini from 2004 allows me to play mp3 and wav too so i would think that later models support the same formats or maybe more

i've had an iPod video for about 2 years now. It still works, but the screen has a fairly thick strip of dead pixels that take up about 10% of the screen area. The one huge problem I have with my iPod (which has been going on for about 8-12 months now) is that it does not turn off. Ever.

Ever since I purchased one of those cheap iPod docks with speakers, my iPod has refused to turn off ever after resetting it, deleting everything off it, plugging it in, removing it from power, etc. No method of trying to turn it off works. Fortunately its battery life is still about 12 hours of just laying in my backpack and about 3-4 hours of actual music listening.

Also, I don't know if it is the fault of my iTunes software or of me not knowing how to set things up, but I could never get my iTunes to automatically add files to the library/sync them to the iPod unless I manually chose "add files from folder" from the menu. This is despite the fact that "add files manually" was never selected in the options.

Basically, iTunes is a nightmare to me and I'm absolutely sick of it and would like an MP3 player with at least 10GB (preferably at least 30GB) that comes with non-buggy software that allows music that I download to a specified folder on my computer (say, C:\Music) to automatically sync to the MP3 player when I plug it in.

Oh, and support for audio scrobbling would be nice too (last.fm)
