Sup guys, thought you might want to check out my new hit video.
Quote
This is a video I did for me final proj. in video class.
I always wanted to make a gangster movie, and it was tough to get everyone together and make it happen, and then it was hard to get the clips together, but it happened, and its nice as heck and we gonna do up directors cut. Shout out to ya home boys.
I hope yall like it, feel free to comment, you know all that c+c stuff. I showed it to a few people.

Some people like psyburn thought it was a joke movie, but yeah it's supposed to be serious, although it is funny in some parts.

Btw I'm the guy in the glasses and beard.

King of Films amirite?

Heh this was pretty good, there's always going to be that awkward pause or silence in certain parts of any amateur film but for the majority you did pretty well with handling it.

Good luck man, shoot for that A+

Like I told you before, the acting could be a little more natural feeling! (Especially with the guy in the white shirt near the beginning.) Also, cinematography isn't too interesting, and the beginning needs more... of a hook or something. Voices need to be louder too...

yeah, I'd like to point out that one of the reasons that there is awkward silence in amateur films is that they don't really work on the soundtrack too much. Pretty much all the dialogue in this should be re-recorded in post production and also have extra sound effects and Foley to set the mood audibly as well as visually.

I'm not being facetious either. About 80-90% of all audio you hear in western movies are re-dubbed in post production due to a bad recording on location or audio clean up is necessary. Also, the golden rule is that in movies, everyone wears hard heeled shoes. so in Post, record some footsteps and maybe some cloth movement from their body to give the extra effect that they're moving. If the audience doesn't hear slight footsteps in the mix when someone walks, it doesn't gel and takes them out of the environment. This goes for every sound you make. Exaggeration is key.

This sort of stuff might not improve the narrative flow of the piece, but will bring the audience more into the film in terms of audio.

And remember, Audio is 50% of a movie, so don't neglect it.

Some of the shots weren't bad. The best probably being at the scene at 1:35. That said, all of your shots were quite dark and I think more attention needs to be spent on the lighting. I know there's some tricks you can do on the cheap with household lamps and things.

The acting is not brilliant, but this is very typical and there isn't really anything anyone can say to help that other than "get better actors" or "do a movie that isn't actor/dialogue heavy"

Basically it's not a bad effort and I salute anyone who tries to make a short film period. There are things I like, such as the story being straight forward and concise, but yeah there are some things you can do to improve this. But maybe they are things you can work on for your next movie! Learn from each creation

One thing I noticed about the boss is that he's looking up at the door before anyone knocks.

Nice film though!

Thanks for the comments guys. On the lighting, we had spotlights and stuff in addition to regular lights from the house so it wasn't really a problem. However, the way the camera records the colors is done in a new way and through conversion they got lost because not every program can read the colors clearly. The actual footage doesn't look that dark.

About re-dubbing, uh I don't know, that sounds like it would not work too well. What's better is to record the audio separately and sinc it up with the video in the editor. We didn't have the equipment to do this though.

Hopefully we are gonna redo it/add to it to make it better, cuz my boys really enjoyed working on this.
Btw, can someone add this in the gw filmmakers thread.

yeah, you should have a shotgun mic on a boom pole, but 80/90% of the time, these need to be re-dubbed exactly the same over the top in order to get a good sound. If you're on a proper sound stage and there are good acoustics on set, then you can get away with it. But I can guarantee you that the location that you shot in would need to be re-dubbed.

It's a lot of work, but thats what it takes to get a good soundtrack in a movie.
