EDIT:  Vote in the poll guys!

I haven't really been interested in the NFL for the last few years, but our Tennessee Titans have been pretty hard to ignore this season.  They've had their best season in years as they are currently standing at 13-2 and today they managed to clinch the AFC South and homefield advantage throughout the playoffs with a 31-14 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

I think it's pretty amazing that they've done all of this shit with a backup quarterback, and I was really surprised to see that the defense was so hot today even though our star defensive lineman was out of commission.

So, discuss your favorite team's season and whether or not they're going to the playoffs here.

HELL no. Chargers FTW!

I'm not a big fan of football. But I'll be a fan of my team as long as they put my city on the map.

I'm watching the NY Giants at Carolina right now and it's pretty intense!  It's 21-20 Carolina right now in the third quarter, and Eli seems to be a bit off his game today.  They're both 11-2 this season and they seem to be pretty evenly matched so far.

I hope Carolina wins!

As long as the Steelers don't make it to the Super Bowl I'll be happy.  Steelers fans are the biggest assholes I've ever had the displeasure of meeting.

Giants and Panthers are going into overtime tied at 28 right now, and NY won the toss.  Pretty awesome game!

If the Steelers can be judged by their performance today then I don't think they'll make it past the second week of the playoffs.  I was just talking earlier today about how the Steelers and the Arizona Cardinals are the two teams that WILL NOT make it into the third round.

And yeah, Steeler's fans are pricks.  They take it really personally when they lose, and I'm pretty sure Bill Cowher started that tradition.

Eagles seriously have the worst fans, them and the Raiders at least.

Also the playoffs are still a pretty big tossup.  I don't think a single team is looking dominant enough to be a guaranteed shot.  Probably the Giants if anything because the NFC is pretty weak on the road this year and they have home field locked up.

NFL Playoffs - First Round Schedule
Indianapolis vs San Diego
Going with the Colts for this one, as much as I hate to.  I think their offense has been pretty damn productive this season and if Peyton can keep the ball in his own receivers' hands then there won't be much to it.

Baltimore vs Miami
Baltimore is looking pretty solid this year, but Chad Pennington has an outstanding arm and the Dolphin's defense is looking better than it has in years.  I think it's too close to call and it's gonna be an awesome matchup.

Philadelphia vs Minnesota
Also set up to be a great match.  I think Philadelphia's dominant passing game is going to be offset by Minnesota's run, so it could really go either way.

Arizona vs Atlanta
When I first heard that Arizona was going to the playoffs I didn't really think much of it, and I'm still pretty convinced that they're going to be eliminated within the first two rounds.  However, I checked up on Kurt Warner's stats this season and it looks like he's determined to make a go of it.  Michael Turner's total rushing yards for this season more than triple that of his Cardinals counterpart, however, so it'll be interesting to see which offense is more productive.

In others news:
3 NFL Coaches GET THE AXE

I happened to notice this in a convenience store today.  The head coaches of the Lions, Browns, and NY Jets all got fired this week, which is kind of a bummer considering the Jets had a pretty decent season if you disregard the fact that they had a pretty serious stumble near the end of it.  The Lions are the first team EVER to lose all 16 regular season games, though.

There's also talk that Brett Favre is retiring once again, so if this happens then the Jets will have to worry about dealing with a new administration AND reworking their offensive strategy for a new QB next season.

So, who's gonna be watching this weekend?

Indianapolis vs San Diego
This one's a tossup, Colts are coming in pretty hot, but it's still a one dimensional team around Manning for the most part, and sunday night had some flashes of the old LT.

Baltimore vs Miami
Pennington is probably my MVP vote, and I like the Dolphins, but I don't think the Ravens are going to allow any real offense here.

Philadelphia vs Minnesota
Depends on the playcalling.  If Reid plays stupid and calls 50 pass plays, Vikings get it, if Reid calls a balanced offense like he should, Philly dominates, either way the Eagles D will make life rough on AP and Jackson

Arizona vs Atlanta
Shootout, but Atlanta is a decently balanced team while the Cards pretty much rely on Warner and the WR team.

mike shannahan of the denver broncos was also fired today.

additionally, the pats boasting 11 victorys will not make it to the play offs. fuck brett favre and the jets. patriots would have been so dangerous this year, cassel has been beautiful and we're on a roll.

oh well, c'est la vis!

Yeah Bob, I'm hoping that the Titans don't find themselves trying to stare down the Baltimore D even with homefield advantage this year.  I think the best scenario as far as a game in Nashville goes would be for Miama to eliminate the Ravens and Indianapolis going on to beat the Chargers.  The Titans have two or three different DB's going to the Pro Bowl this year and they've already proven once this season that they can handle Manning's arsenal.

And I agree about the Eagles.  As long as they approach the game a bit conservatively and don't count on it as a sure win then they'll probably be good for round 2.  I think the Cardinals and the Vikings do have the potential to be dangerous in the first round simply because their opponents may make the mistake of underestimating them.

yea, no kidding! I'm sure all the pats-haters will disagree with me but I am extremely disappointed at the way the season just ended for them. It really fucking blows that teams like the cardinals move on to the playoffs due to being in a shitty division while the pats win 11 games and get nothing to show for it simply by being in a crazy-good division.

This method of choosing playoff teams is one of two things the NFL really needs to rethink for next year - that, and the entire rules of overtime. It's been unfair for plenty of teams this year that lost in overtime simply because they lost the coin toss. Argue as much as you want about the need for a solid defense in overtime, but not being given the chance to touch the ball is insane.

OT should be a full quarter and roughing the passer should be a penalty reserved only for when linemen breach the line of scrimmage WIELDING CHAINSAWS.

Also a friend of mine and I got into an argument the other day and I'm still not sure on the official rules for this:  can pass interference legally be called if the ball is uncatchable?  This is one of those areas where I'm kinda mixed up on the difference between college football and the NFL.  I personally thought that in the NFL is a ball cannot feasibly be touched by a receiver and then he's hit as the ball is tossed in his GENERAL DIRECTION then it's not pass interference.  Am I right?

I'd feel more sorry for Pats fans if not for the fact that the AFC East has often been pretty easy and the Pats had one of the easiest schedules this year.

Anyway I'm going with Eagles or Colts for the bowl.  I think the Colts can handle the Titans with how Manning has been playing lately.

Also the team that wins the coin toss only wins OT 52% of the time btw.

Also PI is only called if the ball is "catchable" although it's a pretty vague definition of what is an uncatchable ball, aside from it automatically being ruled uncatchable if it was tipped.

Cardinals put the Atlanta Falcons out!  Now Indie and San Diego are tied with 35 seconds left in regulation.  Looks like overtime right now, Indie's got the ball.

Two upsets already.  Wonder what's gonna happen tomorrow....
