VALKYRIE, crazy boy tom cruise's latest film. i'm actually not sure what to think of this; mixed reviews, though the concept is interesting (even if its been done before!). what i'm really concerned with is that cruise looks really out of place in the trailers (but some critics gave him thumbs up for his performance), and for some reason the fact that there seems to have been no effort to make it actually seem german bothers me a lot - not even the guy who plays hitler has a german accent in the movie apparently.

on the other hand, a lot of critics say it's not a bad movie if you're not going into it expecting them trying to win an oscar.

is anyone planning on seeing this tomorrow?

Much like world sporting events like the Wolrd Cup, or the Olympics will bring together different nations in friendly competition, (note the recent Asian Cup; Iraq vs. Saudi Arabia, no violence there) we come together. The differences being, we are not divided by our nationalities and we do it 24-7, and on a personal level.

We are a community without borders and without colours, the spirit and diversity of the gaming community is one that should be looked up to, a spirit and diversity other groups should strive toward.

I've heard lots of things about the accent thing.

People bring up a good point that even if you put on an accent, they're still speaking in English. It's kind of half-assed, so they just cut the bullshit and made a film about Germany for an English speaking audience. It was either that, or have the whole thing in German with subtitles, but I doubt the studio would allow that given the nature of this film and its target audience.

Yeah having everyone speak english in a german accent with the odd token german word everyone knows (SNELL AUF WIEDERSEHEN) is really pretty lame and just makes it seem like Allo Allo.

Tom Cruise looks like a gay James Bond villain or something

and Hitler looks like Emo Hitler

so this movie will probably suck

Part of me wants to see this because Eddie Izzard is in it and part of me knows he won't be a big enough part of it to be worth it for just that.

i just saw this and it was a lot better than i expected! tom cruise did a pretty good job acting, and the rest of the cast which is mysteriously british did their parts well.

i was kind of surprised at how far they got before the plan failed.

both this and lions for lambs or whatever that was both came off to me as super hokey in their advertising. i dunno if i'm just weird or what but they just seem like parodys of themselves

At least it's based off historical events, unless they actually do kill Hitler in the movie.

don't go into this movie expecting FILM OF THE YEAR or anything but i found it pretty interesting and kind of educational if they kept it accurate at all, which i'm pretty sure they did.

It still came off as a super-queer supervillain eyepatch like he's from S.H.I.E.L.D. or something I dunno

like eyepatches from WWII could look exactly like that but maybe it's just on Tom Cruise it instantly looks like he's like "yay Halloween is fun"
