just don't get any of those RPGs. from what i've played of them, mass effect is kind of nice sometimes but it's about as clever as a bad episode of star trek enterprise and as fun as any shoot em up with crappy shooting and loads of unorganised weapons and menu screens. aside from COOL I CAN GO A SPACE (which you actually can't outside of selectin' from up to and including half a dozen planets which feel randomly generated even though they aren't and are generally featureless).

what was i saying.

these games all fucking stink don't spend money on them. do not get eternal sonata, just don't do it. don't get the last remnant, infinite undiscovery, tales of whatever the fuck - don't get any of them. you don't need them! they are stupid and if you play them, they will actively make you stupider. they are just awful shit and they should be laughed at for 3 minutes on youtube, if not just totally ignored.

oblivion is not fun and once you realise it's scale is entirely artificial (same 4 voices everywhere, generic dialogue choices, dungeons all look and sound exactly the same and everything is just green. paste a tree here there and look a bush over in the exapanse. pile of shit.), it stops even being impressive. i mean, get a loan of it from a friend and have a wander around for an hour or two. at that point the game will still seem cool, probably. but even then, all of the dialogue (all of it) is terrible, the music plays on rotation and makes exploring everywhere seem even less varied than it actually is. it is rote high fantasy bullshit for 400 hours. i haven't played fallout 3 but i'm betting it'll be exactly the same deal as this.

all of these games make me mentally numb.

mass effect is okay.  idk, it's playable and better than the average jrpg.  it is like kotor in terms of quality so if you liked kotor you would like mass effect.  the story is standard epic scifi nonsense, and jamie is about right when he says it is on par with STAR TREK EPISODE in terms of characters/writing.  the gameplay is better than he describes it as, tho.  it is somewhat buggy and the ai was UGH at times, but i always felt a difference between weapons and idk, treating it like a 3rd person shooter, it was alright.  i mostly TOOK COVER, FIRED GUN, TOOK SOME MORE COVER, etc.  the magic system is worthless and in fact i just remembered it even had magic; that is how worthless it was.  it plays like a pretty standard run/gun/take cover game except probably a bit slower-paced and more rpgish i guess??  it's an ok game, though.  it's probably about as good as you're going to get.  most of the fun i had with it was READING ABOUT GAS GIANTS//EXPLORING PLANETS and finding random dead bodies on them.  ahaha i just realized the most fun i had with this game was reading about gas giants.  jesus christ, i should just stop playing games.

don't play lost odyssey.  don't ever play this game.

by reading about gas giants you dont mean the ones that were just all ATMOSPHERE MADE OF HELIUM etc I hope but the actual planets.

because I did a bit of that too when it seemed interesting.

Yeah the magic is worthless, and the companions that are good in tech or the other one (biotic?) sucked because if you tried to tell them what to cast you could never pick which enemy you wanted to hit (afaik). If you were in cover and your ally wasn't, you would have to come out of cover to find an open area, open the battle menu screen and HOPE that there is a target you can hit. Even then it sucks because most of the moves are "send enemy flying in the air" or "disable shields", when you can just customize your weapons to do the exact same thing. I also kind of wish the dialogue was more than the standard good, neutral, and bad. Sometimes it didn't even matter what you picked because the npcs said the exact same thing. There weren't enough options throughout the game where your stats could influence the conversation. It is a cool game though, which is why I would get it over the other games right now. It is probably cheap, anyway.

yeah all planets actually.  i just like saying gas giants.  i read about them too, tho.  literally the most interesting part of the game was reading about planets and being like HUH, IS THAT SO.

whats wrong with you guys? i went though the whole game using biotics and tech moves(kinda had to given my class), mostly using my pistol for clean up(the stasis upgrade practically made the game too easy).

I did that for the most part too, but about 30 minutes into the game I realized that it was a mistake because all the tech abilities sucked and I was stuck with some dumb pistol and couldn't use any of the cool weapons.

Once you get some decent upgrades a pistol can fuck shit up, the only other weapon that would have been worth using was the sniper.  Tech skill were no where as good as the biotics, unless you were fighting the robots(the hacking skill was great, to bad only pure tech users got it).

Yeah I was sort of that way too. I went the soldier/biotic guy and used a pistol/shotgun for most of the game because I'd just use float on them and then hit them with the shotgun. Always used the shotgun! Then I got an assault rifle WAY at the end of the game but my character was shit with it.

I liked my magic character :(

My guy in Mass Effect is so powerful now that killing anything is pathetically easy.  I've beat the game three times with him now, and the last time the final boss was about as difficult as a Geth Colossus.  I love the game, but having played it four times now, starting over with a new character just feels so tedious.

I'm playing Fallout 3 now (PC), and it's been a lot of fun so far.  It's amazing seeing every pile of rubble looking different, rather than the same pile over and over, just rotated or a slightly different shade or color.  I like this game a lot more than Oblivion because the decisions you make actually make a difference, and you can be noticeably evil.

Oblivion was fun for the combat, but the hideously ugly NPCs, the total lack of a diverging plot, and lame character interactions give the game no replayability.  I played the game from start to finish within about two days, and every time I've tried to go back to it, I realize how crappy it really was.

Anyway, now Fable 2 is on the 360, and I've been hearing good stuff about it.  I hope this comes out on the PC really soon because I want to play it.

Yea, I loaded my character right into a harder difficulty as soon as I beat the game on Normal. Not much harder, I have to say.

A good rule of thumb is to never play a game with "Tales of" in front of it's title. Other then that, I don't really know what to tell you. I can't even remember the last new commercial RPG (Japanese or otherwise) I actually enjoyed. I'm not sure if the 360 can play these games, but KOTOR 1 and 2 are pretty good. From the same people who made Mass Effect. A game I can't really comment on being that I haven't played it for myself just yet.

Wasn't the second KOTOR made by someone else? Also get Fable 2 it's a lot better then the original, though it is missing the underground fighting arenas. those were awesome.

KOTOR 2 was made by Obsidian, but they had a lot of the same people from the first KOTOR working on it (from what I remember).

The first KOTOR is far superior to the second in terms of storytelling and characters, but the sequel has a much better combat system.

I've been playing Fallout 3 the past few days, and I think I'm going to start another character as soon as I beat it.  I want to see where all the different branches in the story go.  The sheer number of possibilities in the game is amazing.

If tech problems are your only concern, from your list I would recommend the Last Remnant.  After you install it, it is fine.  I think it was intended to be installed.

However I am not sure you would actually like the game.  It is a pretty cool jRPG but it is also sort of esoteric in terms of mechanics.  It was directed by Kawazu and is 100% a SaGa game.  It might have even been called a SaGa game in Japan.  So if you liked SaGa Frontier, Romancing SaGa etc then get it!  It is super rad.  If you like jRPGs with more direction and more obvious mechanics that generally just make more sense (Final Fantasy), though, you should pass.
