What's the standard for writing articles. Should it be like Strangeluv or the lit people, or could it also be ground level and stuff.

depends on what the article's about.  regardless of this, though, ideally it would be moderately professional (as in, about as professional as a serious post on the forums) if it was a serious article, but if you wrote it with maybe a slightly humorous tone, this would obviously not apply as much.

A couple things:
-When you click on a link to a post generated by a quote tag, you get the "The topic or board you are looking for appears to be either missing or off limits to you." error.
-It would be nice to have a "PREVIEW" option before you submit an article.
-It really annoys me that I can't middle-click to open a new tab in that main category section on top!
-Are articles still linked to the forum in the way that the blog posts were?
-What forum tags don't work in the comments?
-Emoticons don't work in the comments. :fogetshakefist:

Resources is where the game development content goes.  We don't have anything stupid like RM2K CHIPSETS so this is mostly going to be game dev articles and tutorials.  In the future, we might integrate hosting of graphic/musical resources that would be exclusive or almost exclusive to GW, but this is still in the conception phase and, again, would be a change that would come later on.  It's definitely a possibility, though, and really is just a matter of whether we can muster the resources and means to accomplish this.
Wasn't something already done to allow for submitted resources? Wouldn't it be easy just to toss that into the system since it's already done? Or did you decide not to do that since we didn't get that many resources?

Also, a while back there was an enormous effort to find all of the games we used to store at GW. Where did they end up? I really miss having that games list. Finding games on the forums is hard to do. Currently my best source is rpgmaker.net, which luckily is keeping track of things.

The front page feels a bit too wordy for me, which pushes me off a bit from it. If we're looking to attract new members, what they see first is very important. I'd suggest shortening up the page so that you don't have to scroll at all, and do that by decreasing the amount of text shown (or something). I like the stuff on there, just now how it shows up.

It's hard to find the forums. I don't like having to click an extra button to get there. I'm lazy. (of course, I have it book marked, but still) I'm just complaining now.

I will admit, I was very underwhelmed looking at it. After seeing all the hype, I was expecting more. Though now that we have something, we also have something we can expand.

Despite it's faults, it's still totally sweet. The design is rather different/refreshing compared with the standard fair from other sites. It'll be interesting to see how things work out. Every so glad yet again that we have something. Thank you!

This is because the comments in a part of GW that only the editors and admins have access to, quote links will likely need to be removed, or act as anchors within the article although I don't know how doable that is.

-It would be nice to have a "PREVIEW" option before you submit an article.
Already pitched it to them, we will see what the future holds...

-It really annoys me that I can't middle-click to open a new tab in that main category section on top!
That is kind of annoying actually...

-Are articles still linked to the forum in the way that the blog posts were?
Yes, but as mentioned only staff and admins have access to it for editing purposes.

-What forum tags don't work in the comments?
All should still work except for youtube (unless it has since been fixed), and the quote tag is a bit bugged in presentation but still works.

-Emoticons don't work in the comments. :fogetshakefist:

I've noticed that our "real name" is shown in comments, rather than our current forum name.
Will this be changed.
Also, is there a way to change your "real name" or would that mess up the database or something.

Also, I've submitted an article!  It's important that it gets put up ASAP!

Games is where the games and reviews are held.  It's a bit different from some other game databases because I did not want to flood it with shitty games, so made it a stipulation early on that we would only have this if it only held pretty good games.

Yeah, and who is the elitest who gets to decide what is a "pretty good game". I don't like it already.

You know what would be dandy? A forum skin to match the colour and feel of the new main site. This skin could become "GW Classic" or something along those lines.
Why can't you just change the skin of the website to match the forum?

Any game with a Rone Rivendale soundtrack will automatically be added to our database. Why don't you eli-test out the system heh?

actually nah i can't keep this bullshit up. We've got a great Site Staff, a creative admin and a brilliant site coder who all worked together to make a fantastic site that we won't let get stuffed with shitty dragon satan overlord rm2k ff7 fangames. If you'd like to download those, go elsewhere.

I have to admit, when I noticed the site was up, I was like "oh" and then typed /forums
But now, going back to actually look at it, this is a nice little site. Well done chaps!

One very small complaint: the link to the forum isn't on the home page.  I had to click a few things before I realized "community" was where the forums were.

I don't know why I don't just have the forums on my link bar...

Looks snazzy, but.. but.... where are the graphical resources? I am having trouble importing these text-based resources into my preferred game making engine of choice!

Seriously though, is that section just not up yet? It doesn't have to be RPG Maker-centric. Even just a giant pot of various graphics would be pretty neato. After all, that's what brought me to GW way back in '02. I came for the pretty pictures.
read the op.

theres this handy thing called the mod forum perhaps you should take a look........

rpgmaker suck but I really like to see a huge archive or section for games just like the old times
other sites do this; use them.  this isn't going to be an rpg maker site again.

this is unavoidable, since your posts are stored in hidden forums, but we're working on a way to integrate quotes into the comment system in a better way.  if we did this, the links would obviously be removed.

yeah, this is also at the TOP OF THE LIST of things we want to work in very soon.

the articles are still linked, and all forum tags should work as a result since comments are forum posts.  don't use dohtml tags.

probably, but that thing was a piece of shit.  also, it was decided bu a bunch of us that it was lame and served no purpose to have the same resources a ton of other rpg maker sites have, and have had for years now.  it's lame, offers nothing over the numerous other rpg maker sites, and we do not want to be your #1 source for chipsets.  like i said, the only way we would do graphic resources would be if they were non-maker specific and were either exclusive to gw or incredibly rare.

95% of them sucked, so they're gone forever.  we're not going to have a colossal, comprehensive list of every trashy game made; it's just not the idea.  as you said, rmn does this, so if this is what you would want, they are your best bet.  we are taking a wider focus on indie games in general, and only posting reasonably good ones.

the entire site is based around articles.  if the front page is too wordy for them, i don't think the rest of the site will appeal to them much, either.  it's four featured articles with big headlines giving a general idea of the articles, and a small paragraph underneath giving a more detailed description of the content.  i honestly do not know how much more basic this could be made, and i am inclined to say i don't want to cater to a bunch of people who apparently find big titles and 100 words "too wordy".

yeah, we need to add a link to the forums on the main page.  it'll probably go under the banner.

what hype?  the development was kept pretty much UNDER WRAPS until i posted this topic.  to reiterate, this isn't whatever gw you've heard about.  it was conceived about two months ago as an idea, so unless you have heard tons of hype in the last sixty days about a site most people did not even know was being made, i do not think the hype applies to this version.

it's not a priority.  it bothered me with the staff, so i changed steel's real name, but the site still displays it as dangerousned regardless of the fact that it's not anymore, so it might not even do any good to begin with.  this really only applies to the staff, since they're the only ones i care about this with, but we'll look into it eventually.

because the forum skin looks kind of boring and default, and i think most people would prefer the mainsite's color scheme, if only for a change of pace.

ps PAY NO MIND if this post is brusque.  i'm worn out, is all.

yeah the forums look really basic compared to it and it doesn't blend well. It's like stepping from one site to another, so it'd be pretty cool if they were reskinned, had GW banner in the top etc. Get some continuity going on.

Nice. Good job guys!

I do agree with the complaint that the main page is a bit wordy. I guess it goes well with the site's GW blog 2.0 nature and focus on textual content, but shorter descriptions and maybe more content (and pictures) might look less intimidating for newcomers.

I don't really know how a resource section would work with the new site direction. You might as well drop tutorials and resources in favor of just articles. Maybe there could be a series of articles that'd feature exclusive resources submitted or rare ones, but not an entire section. Articles and tutorials are the same essentially, so there could be a categorization based on article tags instead of simply splitting them into two sections.

I personally like the new site's direction. It might not be as directly 'useful' as sites where you can host your games or get resources, but there are already sites doing that and it's nice to see something fresh and different. Better integration with the rest of the community (look and feel, access from and to website, etc.) and the variety of little improvement and fixes is all it needs. I can't say it lives to the hype of GW6, but considering that everyone's already given up on that and the fact that this isn't GW6, it's a really giant step for the community.

i also want to point out me and panda (headphonics), the two who did the grand majority of the work on the site, had nothing to do with the initial planning of GW6. so those expectations were set by people in times when we had nothing to do with the site. about 2 months ago is when we started working on this and we changed how things worked so this is to be expected. there's still a lot of ideas we have for the site that are yet to be implemented, but as it is now, the site functions in the original plan.

edit: thanks for all the BUG reports and suggestions as well. we are taking all of this into consideration!

By "hype" I meant everything I've heard about what the new site might be over the past years. I haven't heard anything about what currently has become our new homepage because, as you said, it was under wraps. So any and all expectations I had came from before the new plan. Thanks for making the new site and good luck with it.
